I leave for what 2 days and now I have almost 20 pages to catch up on!!! You guys are fast. Sunday my little sister graduated from Cal State Fullerton, yay!!! no more helping her with topics for papers ever again! Now we are finishing up all the planning for her big party this saturday. I am making the biggest cake I have ever made for this party, I am a little scared. I hope it turns out well, it's for 120 ppl. We usually only have 70 people over for parties. So now I will try to catch up on what has been going on with all of you. Wish me luck!

Erica, wow that is great! I can't wait to see your cake!

Yeah, Cathy, I am with you: please let me know if you all run off somewhere together. icon_smile.gif I would be in here with my own echo.....echo....echo.... Cathy, my son LOVES Fireman Sam, we just took him to an open house at the FD so I would love to see your helmet cake.

WELCOME BACK CAKE-FREAK!!! We really missed you! We asked about you all the time! Do you miss school yet? icon_smile.gif Did you get you picture yet of your cake?

Hope all are having a great day... I keep waiting to be told this thread is locked out....I didn't realize there actually are thread POLICE out there, making sure we keep on subject of cake (I read the rules and regulations). Oh-oh. I still hate Wilton Fondant. BUT I am taking the gumpaste class and am very excited about. If you guys PROMISE not to laugh your A@@@ off, I will sometime try to post my lowly cake pictures. Please don't wet yourself laughing at them, though. icon_smile.gif

Until page 95.....

Good Morning Everyone!!

Sweets - who is Fireman Sam?? I've heard of Pajama Sam (when my kids were little).

Oh, to let everyone know, I did use Wilton Fondant to do my Firefighter Helmet. I bought TONS of the premade color (I needed yellow). icon_confused.gif So I bought 3 4-pks of the neon and 3 of the primary....hopefully I can use those other colors soon! Maybe I'll save the primary for Christmas. I did use some of the blue, so I only have a lot of the green and red. I need to find someone around here that sells some other kind of fondant so that I can try that out! In a couple of weeks I need to do a 3-tier present cake, so hopefully I'll get to use some of that CRAPPY Wilton Fondant on those cakes!

Did I talk about the Wilton fondant enough??!!! icon_wink.gif

Talk to you when everyone wakes up and gets babies up and fed (I miss babies icon_cry.gif )

Mu DH smelled the cake I made last night in class and was totally grossed out!!!!

We always fall back on the subject of cake decorating so I'm sure that's fine. I think if we didn't keep the decorating part they may say something.

It' hard not to talk about cakes, I can tell that consumes so much of our lives. That's why we're here on CC.

Freak did you catch up since you've been gone?

HI FWFHC (fellow wilton fondant hater club):

Hey, I was reading another thread and here's my ?: since it's highly unlikely that A: I will build another kitchen done entirely by contractors with a separate entrance and B: that I will even own my own shop, my question is how much will it cost to rent a kitchen and is it worth it? Passing on that cost to your client? Has anyone done that? And another question if the church kitchen is used, can they hold the church liable if something did happen and will the church lose its tax-free status? (this is my contribution to keeping the thread alive hehe)

But really, I do need to know.

Cathy, Fireman Sam is on Sprout on cable. It's a preschool program. My son loves it.

We can agree the fondant tastes and smells awful but works nicely.

Hey, did anyone see the poodle cake that KarenOR did? AMAZING!! If I can do something like that I would be so proud.

Lupe, I am willing a Starbucks delivery guy to visit you...(good luck, he never shows up here when I need him, though)icon_smile.gif

I want in! Im a newbie that hopes to open her own shop soon in Arkansas icon_biggrin.gif I keep trying to catch up so I know what to comment on, but havent been able to yet. So Im just skipping to the end to post and then going to hurry back to catch up! Cracking me up. It all started with that penguin picture. Ive collected penguins for years and now they are everywhere. Reminds me of that song "I was country when country wasnt cool" only with penguins!

I also hate the taste of Wilton Fondant. I took a chocolate class from a food network guy who can remain nameless for now... and he said "Wilton makes a lot of great products, they just arent edible" icon_lol.gif

Sweet -
I have been looking into renting a kitchen too, in Fresno. I spoke with someone here on CC and she was going to open a place, but I haven't heard back from her. I only want to rent a space because I can't even fit two 8" pans in my oven at the same time....

I hate my house!

Do you have to "shadow" an instructor?... how do you get started?

Loops -
I wouldn't say that too loudly....I may just show up on your doorstep!

Julie -
I didn't shadow anyone. I took the courses (all three of them 2x each) and then went to the training seminar. I had to send in pictures of my cakes. They then look at them and let you know if your "worthy" of teaching....lol, JK. I was petrified on the first night of my first class. I had eight people sign up...I only wanted three (I get stage frieight (sp?) talking in front of people) Only three stuck with it... The thing that I hate the most is that you have to bring in a cake and ice it and show everyone how its done and you have to pay for everything yourself...I don't get paid enough to do that! Oh, and this month I had two people sign up, I CALLED them the night before to remind them of the class; made my cake....sat there for 45 min for people to show up. No one did icon_sad.gif I just went home after that and froze the cake. I'll take it out for June's class. I have one sign up so far. $30 a night for 1-6 ppl, $40 a night for 7-9; $43 for 10; and I don't remember the rest. There are mandatory demo days (if you're going to work at Michaels) and you have to pay for and provide everything for that. I don't know about JoAnn's or HL. I'm still waiting for my apron and name tag. I guess I should talk to my supervisor! Let me know what else you want to know!
