Oh Mite I see you already went There are worse stories. I am sorry that it is painful for you to think about. Mine is a little bittersweet as well.

Mine:
It was the winter of 1995 BF and I (he was BF then) had been dating for 9 months I loved him madly (still do) and he loved me madly still does or so he says and actsanyhow.

Valentines day was quickly approaching and there had been much discussion between he and I on the subject of marriage, rings and what not. I had always said that I would like my ring to be in one of those jewelry boxes that are shaped like a rose on a stem (dont know if you all remember those) any way I worked in a flower shop and for some reason this was important to me

About a day or two or so before I splurged to get my nails done thinking I just might be getting a nice shiny diamond to go along with my new manicure and nail art (I told you it was the 90s)
So BF calls his family to tell them that he was thinking of asking me to marry him. They were a little shocked, never having met me and all, but were supportive for the most part.

Future SIL had just gone through a really nasty divorce, and was concerned that her baby brother might be making the same mistake of marrying too young. I was 18 but on the cusp of 19 he was 21 and just out of the Army. So she called her baby bro to have a little talk.

He then decided that instead of an engagement ring that perhaps a Promise Ring was in order. Yes this was a suggestion of his sister. (Dont hate her she is really WONDERFUL) anyhoo
The night he mentioned his, Promise Ring idea I was, of course upset, but was holding it together pretty well. We decided to go for a drive so that we could talk. We walked to his car and when I tried to open the car door my hand slipped off the handle and I broke two of my freshly manicured nails!!!! Well that was the last straw! I broke down and was sobbing uncontrollably!!!! We still went for the drive when I could finally breath again he said, Julie, I have never seen anyone cry so hard over their nails (such a man!!!) I then told him in between sobs that I KNEW that he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and that if he was not sure enough o get me an engagement ring then I didnt want any ring. To me a promise ring means that the guy is trying to appease the girl just to get her off his back I told him. It also is an indication that he is NOT serious!
He apologized and told me that he WAS sure then I asked what the heck was all of this promise ring BS??!!! That is when he told me about his sisters concern for him. I said to him, So let me get this straight YOUR sister gets to decide when and IF I get an engagement ring? He again said that he was sorry, and that in fact it was a stupid idea.

He still thought that people getting engaged on Valentines Day was not the best idea in the world I dropped it but was still very sad. He said when he asked me to marry him it wouldnt be just because some made up holiday said that he should.

I went on my way worked like a slave at the flower shop Val Day came. I went to his apartment after work to take the cake I had made to him. We stayed at the apartment for a while (I was dressed to the 9s) had a nice little romantic evening, I gave him his gift first and he told me I had to wait for mine I did. Finally he told me it was time. At this point I pretty much expected an engagement ring. He told me to close my eyesI didopen them he said and when I did there he was kneeling before holding a rose shaped jewelry boxYes my engagement ring was inside that box. He asked I said yes and the rest, so they say is history.

Thank you Bree,
It was actually free hand.
And when I did nails I always did free hand stuff. I once painted a seen of the stockings hung by the chimney with care on a lady's toenail!

Not legal, don't want to be.....don't really sell cakes. Sold three. I've made $125 and a fire hydrant (yes, a real one for my backyard!)

I love cake decorating and I sell a cake here or there to help pay for suppliess, it puts a dent in it.

The Bakeries by me have so much business they don't have the time to think about what I'm doing. Hopefully there is no busy bodies to report me.

I found out that how you usually get caught is advertising or doing wedding shows. So I stay under the radar.

I do worry about lawsuits. That's why my contracts are so detailed and I have the customer sign them. When I had a catering business I purchased extra insurance. It wasn't much, I think it was around $175 for the year.

Now, because of my age and medical reasons I am not even thinking about being legal. I went to the doctor today because I have so much pain in my hands. She said I have arthritis in both hands. I am having sugery Aug 2nd on my left hand for carpal tunnel. I had sugery on my right hand in Sept.

I told him first thing that I would not be marrying him just because I got knocked up. He agreed it was a good thing. Parent were P.O.'d. Well, his were. Mine were not happy. DH was trying real hard to come up with something ingenius. I knew he had picked up the ring, but I didn't know the final look of it or the cost. He hid it somewhere in the house and had several other things hidden to throw me off. He seperated the ring box from the cardboard box and left a note inside it that said "You don't think I'd make it that easy, do you?" He had the bag it came in somewhere else with a similar note. I never found any of it, wasn't looking. My birthday was coming up so I figured it'd be happening then, my parents were in town and we all went out to dinner at Buca di Beppo. My grandparents, his grandmother, our parents, best friends, brothers, sisters all at the special "Pope's Table." Nothing happened. Nothing all evening. We went to bed, and still nothing. I rolled over to go to sleep and he cuddled up behind me...he hid it in his boxers. He helped me stand up on the bed and got down on one knee.

Oh Monica, that is the best proposal story ever!

Well, thank you. I'm a bit embarrased by it most times when people ask how he asked.

Ok...off to clean kitchen and make banana filling for my cake. BBL.

Popping in again

DD husband had to go out of town for his work so I've been over there helping with the kids.

Wanted to say DD took a long time to talk and when she did full sentances came out. Blew us all away.

Can you come play Grandma with my ds. He only has one, but he would love two. icon_wink.gif Plus no one comes to help me when dh goes out of town.

I would so love to, but I have to warn you I spoil.
