Which Is Best, Gas Or Electric Oven?

I am trying to figure out what type of range to purchase and I'm hoping that someone out there can help me out. I am looking at the possibility of the GE Profile dual fuel slide in range. I've never used an electric convection oven and I am wondering how it does with cakes? Any help would be soooooo appreciated. Thanks so much!!

I personally prefer gas over electric. I think gas cooks more evenly and acurately than electric.
I've only used gas, but grew up with an electric that I recall just HATING! My current oven has been going on the fritz lately, so when I DO have to buy again, gas for me!
Dual fuel usually means gas burners and an electric oven. Electric oven is better for baking. The heat coils offer a more constant heat and more predictable temperatures. Gas goes on and off and can upset the baking cycle. the convection should be able to turn on and off. Tiny things will fly in the convection.
Definitely gas for the burners-much more control for cooking on top.
I have an electric convection oven which is fabulous. I have had gas in the past and I liked it, but convection does a great job of evening out the all round temperature.
I just lower my oven temperature by about 25 degrees below the stated recipe temperture.
I've only had electric; however, I had an opportunity to use a gas stove once and LOVED it... I wish it was available where I lived but we only have electric stoves ![]()
Thanks so much everyone. I value each and every opinion. I think I am slowly becoming convinced to go with the all gas range with the gas convection. I've been told that it doesn't matter if you go with electric or gas as far as the convection goes because it is the circulating air that makes everything moist and tender, etc. So it doesn't matter if you go with gas convection or electric convection. So, I've been told.... Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!

You don't have natural gas in Lake Charles, LA?

Gas is less expensive too.

I'm sure what she meant is that the only choice in the home she lives in is electric. Our last home was that way too.
I have a gas oven and an electric oven in my kitchen. When I bake cakes, I use both ovens...always. No need to waste an oven, even to freeze the cakes
I usually bake my 6 inch cakes in the electric. I feel the gas bakes more evenly. It seems to be better with the bigger cakes. I like them both, but I couldn't function without my gas oven.
I have a gas cooktop and two electric wall ovens. Both ovens are fan forced, and are absolutely fantastic. I could not live without them. I havent had a gas oven in over 20 years. I believe that in Australia (this is from ppl i know) that electric fan forced ovens are more popular. I only know one person that has a gas one.
I use no heating cores, or nails, or baking strips when baking my cakes, and they're all 3 inch high, and rise evenly.
