man, it gets sooooo serious around here!
I think we need to have a cake fight (just grab some cake and start throwing it!)

Maybe it'll lighten things up a bit.

But back to Duff.....I have come to think that those people who always want to put him down (which I do NOT think the original poster did)...I think those people are jealous of his ability and the fact that he has a show, great staff, and the most awesome personality.
I mean.....really.....the guy is freakin awesome (and not just for his cakes)

Hi heather2780,

Yep, you can join our nice, silly, nilly, willy club...anyone else care to join; I think Melvira is still excepting members icon_lol.gif

Now, how about we each make a flat cake and play some frisbee icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

(standing very clear of frosting fight -- such a waste -- it's meant for EATING -- now of course if you want to shove some in my mouth....)

SO.... did you see the Tajh Mahal (sp?) episode???

it reinforced what I think are TWO of the central concepts of the show
a) it takes lots of hard work to make something so beautiful
b) even the pros have "those" in this case weeks.

the little "get rid of the bad spirits" thing Mary Alice and the ladies did was soooo funny.

and ya got to give props to that crew how came in to salvage the turtle.

yep -- a lot of tom foolery goes on -- just a way to keep the sanity under the pressure to deliver such amazing creations every week.

and....

just think -- all of us hyper-perfectionist cakers ---

take a cue from duff and crew --

it doesn't have to be "perfect" in every last detail.

I've always admired Helen for her work, her participation, her helpfulness.... and for her to have this resentment, means that there are issues left unanswered. Yes, it's nice to see that you can always make a cake that didn't come out so great-looking out of the oven into something great; that was the original intent of the poster, I don't know how it was misinterpreted. icon_rolleyes.gif

You both speak the truth in your own rights, there. It clearly depends on who you are on this site as to whether a thread is locked, deleted or whether a member is "banned."

The past examples are too numerous to recall and blatantly speak for themselves.

Helen is one of the people I most admire on CC. She has never been anything but above and beyond helpful to everyone while still being humble in the process. She has shared her successes as well as problems (rare as they certainly are!) so that we can all learn what she is gracious enough to share with this entire community. Quite unneccesary to make a difference of opinion personal, imho.

CakeLadyM,

Whether a thread is locked or deleted has nothing to do with who you are. Much consideration is put into whether a thread should be locked or deleted.

Majority of the time, a thread is locked because the OP ask for it to be locked.

Honest question here: You just joined 2 months ago.....I guess I'm curious as to what makes you think that past examples are too numerous to recall, given that you haven't been here very long.

In this thread (which I totally think has run its course), I believe it was Antonia74 who kind of misinterpretted the original poster by assuming her intentions were to bash Duff. Since the original post has been edited, I guess we'll never know exactly what was said in it. But the very first response to the thread seemed to take the post in the spirit in which it was meant.

OhMyGoodies then came along to apparently 'call out' Antonia for being harsh....but yet, was harsh herself in her correction.

I guess I'm wondering why we don't want to be a little bit gentle in our replies when we point out to someone else that they might have gone a little overboard.

Sitting back and reading the first three pages of this thread made me initially wonder if Antonia and Ohmy goodies were cake decorating rivals in the same town.....or have had run ins on CC in the past.

Either way.....we're all adults here. I think we have it in us to speak with gentleness and common respect. (but, maybe that's just how I think).

But honestly... haven't the last 2 months been LOADED with cat fights and pissing contests? Sorry to use such a gross term, but that's what they often call it.

I hope that we can all show our true colors and learn to just disagree without ripping each other apart. I know sometimes I get a little catty when someone gets under my skin, but I am trying to rise above that and show a higher level of intelligence by behaving! But then my silliness comes out and you guys realize I can be quite childish too! icon_razz.gif

Melvira - I think I've been here the same amount of time as cakelady. (just checking....yeah, I have).
Anyway....maybe I haven't seen all the catty threads as others here. I have heard about one person (maybe two) that were asked to leave because they apparently were rude or something. But that's all I know.

Such a shame though.....that this site can't be about cakes.....people enjoying cakes.....people making cakes......people sharing cake pics......people sharing cake ideas......people talking about other cake decorators, etc...without it getting all hormonally charged.

Women!

Oh boy... icon_surprised.gif surprised no! Not at all! My goodness attitudes are flaring again. What's up with that?? I love Irene to death! She's helped me a lot with my cakes! For her to say something like that then she must be upset. I don't know Helen very well but I have always liked her. She's been nothing but kind to everyone~ Now other peps on here seem to always start the cat fights. Why do the ones who speak up always get bashed??? Go figure? icon_confused.gif I just want to scream tapedshut.gif Maybe there's too much personal reading into what someone is saying then baking cakes these days. Go figure~ Melvira... tcturtle shell.....nothing wrong with anything you just said!
I hope my last post wasn't what you were referring to when you said attitudes are flaring again. I was just kiind of recapping the conflicts that arose in this post, then wondered aloud why we all can't be a little bit more gentle when posting. I guess there is that problem of trying to read someone's tone in their writing.
Just to be clear....my tone is very calm, laid back, hoping to see threads like this stay more on the positive side than the conflictual side.
