last night was a going away party for a girl i work with and we all went to eat. i felt bad cause i ate half my food and brought the rest home but then i ordered desert..... oh i should not have but it was so good!! i had three layer cheese cake of some kind. it was good but now i regret doing it. if it helps i had 4 glasses of water with my meal.
you need to let your self have sweets. if not one day you will jsut lose it and pig out on candy and cake and who knows what else. if you want something then have it. my diet dr says if i want cake or candy or ice cream i can have it jsut eat less at my meal. and that what you did. so dont regret it. maybe next time if you feel bad for eating it you can share with someone then you are only eating half.
I did the atkins diet and found out that I have a condition that makes it difficult for my body to break down fats.. so the diet actually made me sick. That being said.. it was the diet I saw the most results in the least amount of time. ![]()
I think there is a misconception about the diet, there is carbs... just not alot of them and they all come from veggies. For me it was too expensive and not realistic (besides making me sick). Italian marrying Chinese... low carb? Never heard of it. ![]()
I like the philosophy that "every diet works" you just have to find the one that works for you. Me, I GAINED weight on Weight Watchers.
Even my doctor started laughing at that.
But for some people its the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I count calories now and exercise like my life depends on it.. and that works for me.

i did share it with my DH but i still felt guilty for eating it but then i thought about how good it tasted and then i wished i had not shared it but then i felt guilty for eating it so i was glad i didnt eat it all by myself....lol sorry if i confused anyone.

I think this is the best form of 'diet' for anyone. You have to change your life, not just your eating, but everything around you to lose the wait AND keep it off. You have to have something that is realistic to fit into your life to be able to keep following it.
The problem with fad diets is that you lose weight really fast but in most cases when you go back to eating like you had before you don't keep the weight off.
I have to laugh every time I hear one of ads on TV for one of those diet pills. One of the girls says something like, "I've been taking the pills and have kept the weight off for 4 years." That gets super expensive if you are taking pills every day just to keep weight off. Sure they don't have to exercise and can eat what they want, but what will happen when they stop taking the pills or can't afford them any more?
Everyone wants to rush through this process and drop the weight really fast. That's why there are so many diets, pills and what not out there. The problem is how many people do you know that has done those that have kept the weight off when they stop the diet or pills?
Here's a healthy food I'd thought I'd share... Jolly Time Healthy Pop butter flavor 94% fat free microwave popcorn is 90 calories for the WHOLE bag!!!!! It tastes GREAT and it's very filling! I have it for lunch everyday and no longer feel guilty eating it...
Hope this helps.

Hey you guys! I haven't been on CC for awhile, been busy! I saw this topic & thought I'd post & encourage everyone!! Ya'll keep up the great work!! It's not easy believe me I know!!
I have a question for ya'll... How hard is/was it to switch from drinking drinks with sugar in them to drinking drinks w/ splenda or other sugar subsitutes in them? A few of you might know that I just had weight loss surgery. I had to quit sugar cold turkey. I wasn't a big soda drinker before but I do enjoy a pepsi every-now-and-then. I also loved tea hot or cold. I have been trying to drink diet pepsi & tea with splenda but the taste is just horrible to me! I can't stand the sugar substitutes! People tell me I'll get used to the taste but I don't see how. It's horrible to me. What are your opinions of sugar substitute?
Ya'll keep up the great work!!
HI all, just wanted to post a quick message. I am pretty proud of myself.....last night DBF and I went to a 25 wedding anniversary party we had dinner there, he drank and I drove home. ON the way home he wanted to go to What-a-burger. So we stopped, I wasn't hungry so I didn't eat. This may sound like a simple act to you all, but you see, if someone else is eating I usually do to wether I am hungry or not. Normally I would have had at least fries or even a burger! YEA for me.

I went from drinking several cokes a day to drinking water and ice tea (with Sweet N Low). I can drink Diet Lipton Citrus Green Tea and the other Diet Lipton Teas too, but I can't stand diet cokes. They are just too sweet or something, and have a icky after taste.
I also have used the Crystal Light packets you add to water, but depending on the flavor they can have that too sweet taste. My favorite right now is Fulfill. It is a sugar free mix you add to water that also has some vitamines in it.
I think you can get use to it, you just have to keep drinking it and letting your taste adjust. But then again sometimes it isn't worth it if drinking the diet is going to make you miss the real thing. ![]()

CONGRATS! You should be proud of yourself.
I know the feeling. When food is present it is hard not to just nibble, even if you really don't feel like nibbling.
TexasSugar, That's exactly how the diet stuff tastes to me! TOO SWEET! Finally someone else understands that they taste tooo sweet. Where did you find the diet Lipton Citrus Green Tea? I've been looking for it everywhere. So far no luck! Walmart doesn't even have it here in Shreveport/Bossier. I have tried Crystal Light & those are too sweet to me too. I never drank much soda before my surgery so it isn't hard to not have any. I'm just tired of just drinking water. Thanks a lot for the post!
Gotta go! Headed out to a Kenny Chesney concert with my daughter~ Ya'll take care!
Hope you enjoy the concert! My parents are going to it as well. ![]()
As far as the Diet Lipton Citrus Green Tea (in the bottle), at our Walmart it is either on an end cap towards the back of the store or it is on the aisle with the water, next to the drink mixes. I think the diet sells out pretty fast though cause there are sometimes we will go and not see any. My grandma got my started on them, and since I started drinking the diet first I don't really like the taste of the regular ones as much.
I saw this week they have a diet Mixed Berry Green Tea. I might try some of that soon. I am trying to limit myself to one of the teas a day so I don't buy to many of them at a time. I didn't want to replace cokes with diet coke when I quit them so I try to drink more water than anything.
Also look for the Fulfull. It's a blue box. It's in a end cap as well at our Walmart, so I don't know where it's actual home will be in the store. I'm really enjoying them and they aren't as sweet as the other no sugar stuff is and they have a good variety of flavors.

Thanks for all that info TexasSugar! I will have to look for the Fulfull your talking about. I don't know if anyone knows this but soda's & diet drinks Crystal Light included will slow your motabolism down. At least that's what my dr told me. He advised me to drink only 1 soda or diet drink a day if I drink it at all. So I've listened to him. I only drink the other drinks when the water gets too much for me.
Karate, I agree about the Dr. P. It is the best of the diet sodas. I just bought the cherry vanilla it's pretty good too.
The concert was awesome!! Kenny Chesney was great as always. Best one I've been to in a long time! SugarLand was really good too. Dierks Bently was there too but I have never liked him. Daughter said he was good, LOL! I hope your parents had a good time too TexasSugar! It didn't get over till 11:00!! I live 10 miles from the CenturyTel Center & I just got home! It's midnight! There were so many people there. It was worth the money for sure!
Ya'll have a great evening. I hope everyone has a great week too! Stick to those diets & remember the most important part is exercise!!! Since I have been exercising I feel wonderful!!!
Turtleshell,
You might try adding half the packet of Crystal light mix to the water. It won't be as overpowering and still gives you the flavor. I do that myself because I think a full packet is too much. I can't offer any suggestions on the diet soda because I love them and have been drinking them for decades!! I also like Diet Tropicana Orange soda and Diet Sunkist.
mmdd-
Have you ever heard of Gelato?
It's Italian Ice Cream and it is so yummy, eat the fruit varieties, they are better for you than the cream varieties.
Also- when I get a craving for ice cream or something sweet, I try to eat the Edy's 100% Fruit Juice pops- the strawberry and berry varieties are the best. My husband enjoys eating the lime pop version of these.
If I have to eat ice, I only like to eat Ben & Jerry's, sure it's expensive, but it's not chock full of preservatives and it's not pumped up with air like the mass produced ice creams out there.
Thanks Cindy, I will try the orange & also just use 1/2 the packet. Thanks!
mmdd... throw the icecream in the freezer away!!! You don't need the temptation!!! Get rid of it!!

YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY those are my absolute favorites!!! they have chunks of fruit in them and they seem to hit the spot!!!!
O.K. I'm gonna jump right in and say that I've been trying to loose weight for a long time now and I don't seem to be getting anywhere lately. Here's the story.
10 years ago I stoped smoking and started jogging and watching what I eat. I jogged every other day and didn't eat much. My husband got me started on this when we met. We aggreed that he would help me get as fit as possible. I have lost 70 lbs over these 10 years' but I still weigh 180. I can't get down even near to my goal to 145.
The problem, I hurt my back last year that required sugery and no more jogging for me. I do walk on the treadmill as fast as I can go. I have some nerve damage that keeps me in a limp. The days that I don't walk on the treadmill, I do physical work and do streches at night. I get quite exhausted doing this.
Another problem, my husband monitors everything I eat and I'm tired of eating the way he wants me to. I generally have toast, cereal, or an egg with coffee when I get up. That is about 11 am. No more food until night. And that's around 12am at night. Usuall something grilled, sauted veggies and sometimes baked fries. I don't have a wide range of food options and my DH is not any help. He watches every bit I take and tells me to chew, chew, chew. I am in desparte need of any suggestions!!!!!
The time I eat will not be able to change. My DH is a night owl and he has a set schedule for himself that I have to follow.
I feel like some slave to his schedule and the way he like to do things. I know what it's like to not eat. I was anorexic when I was teenager at 97lbs. Crazy isn't it.
Got any helpful advise for those last 35lbs? ![]()
Thanks all, lilie
I think the first thing you have to do is add some healthy 'fats' back into your diet. Low fat is one thing.. no fat is another. Add some salmon or nuts etc.
Next, if you can't do intense cardio slow things down and do weight training. I broke my back years ago (Double fracture to the L-3/4) and the first thing they tell you is don't do 'back specific' exercises. Most of the time people do them incorrectly causing them more pain than if they didn't do them at all. Try the stationary bike for your cardio or swimming and beef up the weights.
Also, if I were you I'd throw out your scale. If you're fit and healthy then don't let the scale bug you.
Another problem, my husband monitors everything I eat and I'm tired of eating the way he wants me to.
How many calories are you taking in every day? From those two meals it sounds nothing like the 1200 that you need to keep your body going. And that could be the problem. If you don't get enough calories your body is going to hold on to what you eat cause it doesn't know when it is going to get fed again.
You should be able to control what you eat, NOT the other way around.
I sometimes suggest to my husband that maybe he doesn't need that second or third helping, or I think you have had too many chips when half the bag is gone, but I have never told him he could never eat anything. I do nag him though when he makes microwave extra butter popcorn and insists on adding more butter on it.
lilie: I don't mean to butt in here, but I read your post & thought I would give my 2 cents.
You should have total control of everything you put in your body. Eating at 11:00am & again at midnight is not good for you. You should have healthy balanced meals throughout the day. The reason I think you can't lose any more weight is because your body is now used to the low calorie diet you are on. Your body adjusts to whatever you eat after a certain amount of time.
You need fruits, vegetables, grains, etc in your daily food intake also. I wish I had some better advice for you, but I think as long as you are on this schedule it will be very hard to lose weight.
I agree with ge978
I was not eating more than once a day, got down to 124 and could not loos any more weight (I foolishly thought I was fat ![]()
) The body needs energy to run and it will hold what you give if it knows you will not give anymore for a long time.
That said.......
SoCakes.......(and everyone else) since you are the tally person I just wanted to let you and all know that I am out of town for the rest of the week and will not return until Sunday. I will not have my computer since DBF likes me to leave it home, so I will weigh in on Sunday and send my weight on Sunday instead of Thursday.
I am going to go nuts without my daily dose of CC and all of you.
This sparkepeople website is GREAT!!! I love it!!!!!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I actually got up this morning & got on my treadmill. I did 1/4 mile in 10 min. I was only going at 1.5 mph...but I can't remember the last time I was on the machine!!!!
I was talking to my dh for 5 of those min. on the phone & I wasn't out of breath or anything, so I'm gonna do more tomorrow.
I'm really trying to get up earlier and get started in a routine....my oldest will be going in kindergarten this fall and I'm definitely going to be needing some type of "order" in this house. I think it's gonna be fairly easy to keep order through the week, but what about the weekends?!?!?! How do you keep them from being hectic????
I have a birthday cake for this sat...it's a 1/2 sheet, my first...I've only done 1/4 sheets! So, I'm gonna be tempted to try the cake & the icing!!!!! Wish me luck!
Oh, BTW, lilie....I'm so sorry to hear about your nerve damage & the surgery...I hope you're living a fairly decent life. With all of this on your plate, the last thing you need is to be following someone else's schedule. I know you both did this when you met, etc., but people change & things change. Maybe it used to work for you, but it doesn't sound like it does now....anyway......all I want to say is follow YOUR schedule, for YOU.......live for YOU, not someone else. If your dh truly loves you, then he should be able to understand. Good Luck!!!
This sparkepeople website is GREAT!!! I love it!!!!!
I know, I'm on it all day long and am totally freaked out by the type of food I was putting in my mouth!!
No wonder I couldn't lose weight. I've started to shed some pounds each week. They say that 1 per week is a good thing.
Since I'm on crutches, I no longer have the opportunity to go to the kitchen as much!!!! YEA for me.. I still work out (top half only) I'll lay on the floor w/the walkman and do some leg excercises and some crunches.. My puppy will lay down next to me and chew her bone and keep me company.
So I totally understand mmdd about getting on a routine and such. I was devestated when they put me on crutches.. I kept putting it off cause I didn't want to stop excersing (sp?) but didn't have a choice. So I started again, even if it's the top half.. to not get out of the habit.
