What is a good breakfast food that is filling, but yet low fat & healthy?
gosh, it all depends on what you like to eat. Unfortunately I eat at my desk.. I usually have a special k bar w/my coffee and then I eat "lunch" around 10-10:30 and that consists of fat free popcorn. then I'll have a 110calorie gronola bar around 1:00 or I'll eat an apple as that has good sugar. The egg white idea is great!! Egg whites are really good for you. Portion control is a HUGE factor w/weight loss..
oohhh another good idea is a fruit smoothie... fat free/low fat vanilla yogurt, add some granola and some fresh fruit and stir together with a spoon and eat. I don't like to use the food procesor as I don't like the texture, so i leave the fruit whole.
when I spoke to the dietician she said the best way to measure ONE serving was to make a fist and that is the size portion you should be eating.
Sorry you probably didn't want this much info huh??? hahaaaa
b
LOL! Thanks! I completely forgot about smoothies! I'm glad you kept up with bf and I'm glad he stayed there for you!
mmdd, i love for breakfast 2 or 3 eggwhite omelette with spinach and mushrooms and little cheese also melted in the middle.
I'm not much of an egg person (I prefer biscuits & gravy, lol), but I think I'll give this a try. Any other ideas of what to make an omelette out of?? I'm not much of a spinach person, but may try it. I'm definitely not a mushroom person!
Breakfast is my hardest meal b/c I LOVE cereal. I could live off of it. I actually used to, lol!
mmdd~
Do you like tomatoes? I put spinach & tomato in my eggs. I stir fry the tomato & spinach (& yes sometimes mushroom) in olive oil spray then add my egg. I'm a big time tomato lover. I can live off of tomatoes. So I can eat them in anything, well except cereal! LOL~
I weighed in today.... I finally made it under 200!!!! I lost 2 lbs this week. I'm now at 199!!! I'm soooo happy!!! Thank you SarahJane for noticing it on my scales!! That was a sweet PM you sent me. Thank you!
Good luck to everyone this week~ Hang in there~
I wanted to ask everyone a question. How do you bake & decorate cakes while on a diet? I haven't done the first cake since I've had my surgery. I've turned down 2 wedding cakes, 2 grooms cakes, 1 anniversary cake, & one bday cake already! I'm actually scared to decorate. I love the icing & love the batter even more & I don't really trust myself right now to keep my fingers out of it. What do ya'll think? Any advice? Do you think I'm putting myself in danger to cheat? I want to do a cake soooo bad!! I miss making flowers. I miss making MMF & bows & all. Let me tell you I love the taste of MMF too. Ahhh!!! ![]()
![]()
Ya'll help me with this please!! I need you!!
Chew gum while you bake; or brush your teeth right before. Its a good way to keep yourself from snaking; why not taste-testing?
I guess I got you all beat! I am 50 yrs old with 2 adopted kids, so no excuse there, had no children of my own. I am almost 5'2 and weigh 218 pounds! That is obese! For 12 long yrs I weighed 115, then came the health issues.. Ever since I had a total hysterectomy I can't loose an ounce! I have a dust collector to in the corner to ""Treadmill"" I invested in a mini trampoline from QVC, The first jump CRACK arthritc knees gave out and that was the end of that LOL!! I wish they made a wonder diet pill for menopausal woman! See I can't even spell it! I'd give anything to lose 10 pounds! ![]()
Well Done tcturtleshell!!!!
Don't be scared to make a cake!
Just decide that you won't eat any before you start and I am sure you will be fine. Just ask yourself what you want more....To be overweight and uncomfortable or to be thinner and healthier??
I am confident that you will choose the right one!!
Also you will feel twice as proud of yourself when the cake is finnished!
Well done again!! you have lost 17lbs in total since we started posting our weights which is twice as much as the next biggest looser which is Liis followed closely by Texassugar....Well done to all of you!
Sandra

I love tomatoes, I can eat them as if they were an apple. Maybe I'll try that. Thank you!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Getting below 200 is a big deal!!!!
I wanted to ask everyone a question. How do you bake & decorate cakes while on a diet?
I usually use dh as a tester if I need a taste-test on something. I give extra cake, etc. to the boys. I hold out on taking a taste for as long as I can then I will eventually give in and have just a tiny bit, but I make sure I sit down & enjoy it thoroughly. I've also made sure I had a drink nearby that DOES NOT taste good with icing, like Crystal Light's peach tea.
TC - chewing gum and brushing your teeth are good advice! One more, rinse your mouth with Listerine before you start, I guarantee you will not like the taste of the batter or icing with that stuff!!!!
Last Thursday I was at 216, pretty sure I had posted that. Then, this past Saturday I was back at 220 - I'm amazed at how fast 4#"s can get back on. Well, Saturday I started the Rice Diet from Duke University. It's low sodium, low fat and low cal. I've lost those 4#'s. Everything tastes salty to me now!!! I tried the cake extender for the first time this weekend. I almost threw it out because I thought I did it wrong and added too much salt. DH said it was fine. I hope so, but the customer didn't call to complain! I had some FF cottage cheese for breakfast without looking at the nutritional values. OMG, it tasted like I put a cup of salt in it!!! 1/2 a cup of has 480 mg of sodium in it!! I had to go brush my teeth to get rid of the taste, and of course, my toothpaste has baking soda in it! I had to rinse with Listerine just to get rid of all the salty taste! YUCK!!!
Anyway, I've been so busy, but this should be a slow week for me - hopefully I'll stay caught up with all the posts now!!!
Good morning!
Sorry ya'll but gum doesn't work for me. I figured that out before I started loosing weight. The first taste is yucky then the next several tastes are yummy! When I get some icing on my hands it's like a reaction... elbow bends & fingers go straight to mouth! LOL!!
I have spit the icing out once I realized what I did so I guess I'll have to do that if anything goes into my mouth. I weighed 225 when I started cake decorating classes in 04. By Jan of this year I got up to 253!! Thanks to baking. That's why I've been so afraid to bake & decorate. My problem isn't food it's sweets. So far (since surgery) I haven't had anything sweet, well other then grape jelly. That's the sweetest thing I've had.
KittisKakes, I remember you talking about the rice diet. What all can you eat on it? Surely not just rice. I hope you have a great success with this!! Good luck!
mmdd~ I can eat tomatoes like apples too. I love them!! During the summer my face breaks out a lot... my Mom has always said it's from the acid in the tomatoes! She thinks I'm allergic to them! Wouldn't that be weird? I still love em! Especially with bread, mayo, salt & pepper!! YUMMY!! As for taste testing yes, I will use my DH or DS! They will eat anything! I just gotta keep that elbow from bending & my fingers going into my mouth! LOL!
socake~ I think I'm gonna make a cake this weekend! Just have to figure out what I'm gonna make. Thank you for the vote of confidence!! I usually eat the icing when I'm making it so I will just stay out of it! As long as the batter doesn't get on my fingers I think I might be ok. LOL!
Thank you everyone for the encouragement!! I really need it!! I was afraid someone might not like me in this group because I did have surgery. I'm so thankful that you guys have welcomed me. I don't have a support group through the dr's office. They do have a meeting once a month but it's on my FD night so I can't go. My friends here all want me to encourage them but they never encourage me. So I'm thankful to have you guys to talk to. I'm ready to ring my friends necks! I have to get up every day & call my one friend to get up & get ready to go to the gym. This morning I layed in bed & needed some help to get my butt out of bed & get going... well I was hoping she'd call me for once.. she never called! So I didn't go! If I don't encourage her she won't do anything! I have no encouragement period. I guess I'm just gonna have to do it myself!! Now since I didn't exercise I'm feeling terrible!! Lazy won't get me to 150 lbs!! Thank ya'll for your encouragement!! You guys are the biggest loosers!!!!
(Never thought I'd be happy about someone calling me the biggest looser!!!) ![]()

LOL! TC, you're too funny!
I'm sorry to hear that your friends don't support you, and that you have to encourage them.
You have tons of support right here!!!!!!
I think you were brave to have surgery...there's a lot of risks that come with surgery. I had a bad infection after my 1st c-section that took 3 months to fully heal, so surgery is just risky period. I'm glad you're benefitting from it!
I like your saying " lazy won't get me to 150"...I think I'll tell myself that lazy won't get me to 135.
TC - I respect that you had the courage to even go through with surgery!! The most important thing is that we are all trying to better our health - regardless if you have had surgery or not!!!
The Rice Diet is not all rice. I think when this diet was first created, 1939, it was strictly rice for a few weeks. Well, things have changed. You're allowed fruits, vegetables and starches, limited dairy and meats.
The gist of it is you keep your sodium intake between 500 - 1000 mg and calorie intake is 1000. And portion control! There is a "detox day" once a week and also you eat fish or meat once a week. So far, so good. I'm having no cravings whatsoever, which amazes me!! No headaches either like when I tried South Beach - I figured that was because I wasn't getting any carbs.
I found the article in First May issue. I think Woman's World also had an article on it. The website tells you about the clinic in Durham, NC but there is also a forum you can read through. Not much different then CC, not organized like CC, but you can read through posts without joining, but if you want to post, membership is free. http://www.ricedietprogram.com/ It's rapid weight loss. I figure I will slowly adapt it to my needs once I get some of this weight off!! I can email the phases and sample food lists to any one who's interested. Just let me know.
So far (since surgery) I haven't had anything sweet, well other then grape jelly. That's the sweetest thing I've had.
Maybe you can have a piece of toast with grape jelly on it before you make your cakes.
TC- even though you had surgery...you still have had to work hard to get the weight off...I don't think anyone will judge you here...I am glad to hear that you are feeling better with some of your weight off.
Keep up the hard work everyone!
I think I have gained back some weight since I haven't been exercising properly lately...but I started parking farther away from the door at work to get myself to walk...and I make myself walk up the stairs to the second floor even when I am dead tired.
kittiskakes This rice diet sounds very interesting! I'd love to give it a try! If you can send me info on getting started please email me? Do I need to purchase one of those CD's? LOL guess not understanding what I read! Any information I would greatly appreciate!
Regarding the hysto? Best thing I ever did, best thing!!! Less expense every month to!!! ![]()

mmdd here is another one of my favouries not only for breakfast i like it anytime ![]()
little olive oil and cut zuccini into small slices and frie them both sides then add some eggs t o it and mix it up on the pan then season it.
yum yum.
tomatoes and eggs are nice too. i ususally add little mozzarella cheese pieces to it just before it is ready and oregano.
for breakfat have a cup of yoghurt with some fresh berries. strawberries and nectarine cubes yum yum
or greek yoghurt with honey and crushed pecan nuts.
you could also have wholemeal toast wih a slice of smoked salmon (yum this is my favourite)
and instead of butter i prefer philadelpia cheese.
TC
Never fear, we are not here to critisize, or put any one down (I thinK some of us do that enough to ourselves). I think it takes great courage to make that step. It is not an end all solution, you still have to work to get it off and keep it off. Be proud of your accomplishments and keep up the hard work!!!!!
Cheers to all who have lost!!!!!
To keep from tasting everything while I bake, I keep a sink of soapy water and when I am done with something it goes right into the sink before I give myself a chance to test, test and more test. It has helped me quite a bit. I thing mmdd was the one who gave me this idea.
Yea!!! I survived the kids' T-ball picnic today. I'm not usually one to pass up a good chili dog, but I did!!! 6o kids and their parents had hotdogs, chili, chips, cookies and sodas - I drank water and brought an apple! The coach invited me and the kids back tomorrow for the coaches' picnic, pizza and sodas - one more day!!!!

And the 40th reason to lose some weight.....
I'M WORTH IT!
Ok, guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm planning on getting really serious. It just occured to me that in a few months....my oldest will attend his very first day at kindergarden. I DO NOT WANT TO BE A FAT MOM ANYMORE!!!!!
Starting tomorrow(since it's weigh in day), I will post my weight and I will go to the 3 fat chicks website and put that bar under my name too!
I am going to count calories...this always works for me. I've read that you shouldn't keep a standard amount, like 1500 EVERY DAY. You should let it fluctuate from day to day. So...this is what I'm going to do. I've got my measurements already.
The hardest issue I'm going to have to deal with is believing that I'm worth it!
I know each and every one of you is behind me. My DH supports me 110%!!! And, I really want to be a better parent, mother & wife!
I went and bought me a new outfit today. I had picked up a pair of shorts at a yardsale 3 weeks ago....finally got the courage to try them on. WOW! Something with a button and a zipper! (sorry, but I haven't worn anything like this since 5 years ago.) So, I went out today and bought me a really cute outfit for summer. I'm sure dh will be happy because he's always telling me to buy myself some clothes.
I have a list of my goals wrote down. When I lose 20 lbs, my "reward" will be.....and when I lose 35 lbs., etc. Well, dh saw it and I thought he was gonna say something bad about it. But, he said "Is that all you're gonna get if you lose 20 lbs?" (I had wrote down new bra & underwear.) I looked at him like "what else do I deserve?" He said he thought I should get new braS, new underwear and atleast one new outfit. So....that made me very happy!
BTW, we're still doing great! We're listening to each other more & appreciating each other more and RESPECTING each other more!
I'm sorry if I let anyone down b/c I have not lost any weight since starting this, I've actually gained weight.
I am glad to hear this from you mmdd!
I just read something good from a magazine from someone who lost weight with hard work.
I keep a note posted on the dashboard of my car. It's the word 'impossible' switched to 'I'm Possible.' Seeing it reminds me of what I've accomplished.

Thanks for putting these up! These are the ones I'm going for! ![]()
mmdd - Don't think anyone is disappointed. It's so easy to put on the weight and extremely difficult to get it off!!! We all know that!! It seems you have to get there, mentally, for it to succeed. We've been doing this for how many weeks now? 8, something like that. It didn't hit me until last week!! I looked at my ticker and it said I had 85 pounds to lose. Suddenly it dawned on me, I'm only 15#'s away from being 100#'s overweight. It's the heaviest I've ever been!! A light finally turned on!! I also found a diet that looks like it's really going to work for me!! I'm actually excited about losing weight and getting on the treadmill. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED!!!!
I know you're not going to give up and it looks like your support from home is a positive one!! So we know you can do it!!!
Keeping track of what you eat and your calories is a good thing to do. One of the diet books I have is Dr. Phil's The Ultimate Weight Solution FOOD GUIDE in paperback. He lists the nutritional values for all kinds of foods - calories, protein, carbs, fat/sat fat, cholesterol, fiber, sugars and sodium. It works well for me to keep track of everything. Also, I think fitday.com lets you enter your food into a journal and it will tell you what some of those values are. It's free membership too. I haven't checked it out yet, but it was passed on to me and I thought I'd pass it on here.
Good luck!!!
Eight weeks or so we've been doing this and I've lost the same 2 pounds four times and weigh just what I did when we started!!!!!!!!! That's a stupid waste of effort! And there is no one to blame but myself!!!!!!!
I took my measurements this morning and that was not a happy experience either. Yesterday I finally realized I have a dress I want to wear to 2 weddings in July and I need to get myself in gear and start to lose in earnest or the dress will not fit! These last 8 weeks I was "being careful" about what I ate, but not careful enough. Now, I am on day 2 of dieting for real and I've started listing all my food and exercise at http://www.sparkpeople.com which works really well for me WHEN I DO IT. I have found again that all those little extras do not go into my mouth if I know I have to weigh them and write them down. For some reason I drink more water if I get to mark the little waterglass icon on the website too. Weird, since no one sees any of this but me, but who am I to argue with it if it works? The website makes keeping track of everything much easier than keeping a notebook and will graph how many pounds and inches I lose as well as keeping track of how much water I drink and how much and what kind of exercise I do. I designed how many calories and how much carb, protein, and fat I want to eat each day. As I enter what I eat it keeps track of that as well as fiber and salt. It makes it kind of a game to see how close I can get to what I set up for myself. Works with the obsessive/compulsive part of me......
Thanks for being there to read as I rattle on. I'm sure it would be loads harder without all of you!!!!!
WOW!!! I felt so much encouragement & sincerity in the last several posts!!!!! You guys ROCK!!!
MMDD... you touched me with your post girl!!! Your can do this I promise!!! Your goals are perfect & resonable at the same time. You don't want to make goals that are too high. You could get discouraged fast. You'll be down 20 lbs in now time!! I've made goals but I haven't made any rewards for myself when I reach the goal. I never thought of it! I'm so glad you mentioned it! I'm gonna work on that after I finish this post.
Thank you guys for excepting me about my surgery. I've had a lot of people say negative things about the surgery & I guess I'm just worried that others might feel the same way. Thanks!
KittisKakes, I love that list!! I have actually checked a few of them off!! That felt great!
Thank you guys so much for writing down your successes & even your failures for us to read. They make everyone stronger!!
MMDD~ Go for it girl!! You will do accomplish your goals!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to add my two cents in.... DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!! You all know I've started running and let me tell ya, I HATE IT, but.. I know it's gotta be done. The weight as someone said is easy to put on, but hard to take off. I challenge myself everytime I'm running... Like "come on Brenda just one more block) When I do make it, I'm like if I can do that block let's see if I can do another one. I also think of this.
( DON"T LAUGH..) but one day I saw a really pretty woman running and she had the thinnest.. thighs possible and the look on her face was the same one that I have when I'm running... LIke UGH this totally rots. She didn't have that OOHH look at me I"m so pretty look. So everytime I'm out I think of her.. (is that stupid???) I don't know who she even is, but I guess I know I'm not the only one who's out doing this. Dumb I know.. :0)
JUST DON'T GIVE UP ANYONE, WE'LL DO IT.. IT'S A FIGHT EVERYDAY.. BUT WE ALL CAN DO IT TOGETHER..
B
215 this morning and ready to go!!!
I forgot about http://www.sparkpeople.com . I have to remember to pass that on!!!
Good dieting everyone!!
My dr tells me not to feel bad when i dont lsoe weight....... he told me YOU DID NOT GAIN ALL THIS WEIGHT OVER NIGHT YOU WONT LOSE IT OVER NIGHT. it took me 6 years to get where i am now. that being extremely over weight..... now it obviously wont take me 6 years to lose it all if i continue my diet and working out. my new small goal is to lose 25 pounds over the summer before my kids go back to school. i then have a goal to lose 5 more in the month before my bday. by then i should be right under 200 which i havent been in over 3 years. Proud to say it has been a little over 3 months and no sodas. no snacks and i have been walking almost everyday. this week i havent because i am really really sun burned from my weekend swimming i can barely move my arms or my head (my neck is really burnt) today is the first day i feel like i can move and not want to cry. Everyone stay strong and when you dont meet your goals dont beat yourself up. start small make a goal to lose 4 pounds in one month. when you do better and lose 6 or 8 then you can feel even better about yourself. Making smalls goals helps you set yourself up for success(sp)
LOL @ what bodaisy said! My bil's gf is like 110 lbs and she told me that she doesn't know how in the world people exercise! I was a little surprised to hear her say that. I guess people just do it b/c they know they have to!
If that helps you (thinking of her, then do that!)
