Would you make me a cake for Saturday at two?
I know it's short notice, but I'm depending on you.
Can you make it two tiers that will feed fifty people?
And shape it like a church with a really tall steeple.
And make it romantic,Cause that's all the rage.
I'm thinking like Doves flying out of a cage.
Now Marshmallow gets sticky, Whipped cream can't take heat,
Fondant tastes icky! and Buttercream's too sweet.
OH! and the filling must be Special,Something different and lite.
Like a fluffy Parfait! Or a Berry DE-light!
Now Twenty five dollars is all I can spend,
So give me a Break! After all I'M YOUR FRIEND.
Haha, this is excellent, love it! Hhmn, you forgot the last verse!
If not, it's to Walmart, I leave with much haste.
The same thing is at Walmart, with much the same taste.
I am doing you a favour, by ordering from you.
You aren't doing anything, that they cannot do.
We've been friends forever, but on this we may split.
So quick what's your answer, don't have time for this sh--.
Haha, sorry, couldn't resist.

Oh gosh no, you ended it perfectly just the way you had it, I loved it. I also love prose and poetry, haha, belonged to a club in highschool. Haha, it just struck me that this could become, "The poem that never ends" with everyone adding a verse as they reached the same level of frustration as you must have been at.
I love your poem, I think just the way it is, it is a very classy way of getting rid of some frustration and also sharing something that we can relate well too! If there was a cake decorating award for poetry and literary works, your poem would win by acclamation!
Haha, thanks for giving me my laugh of the day!

By the way, why this hit home so much was because recently I was asked to do a rather specialized cake by someone that has the attitude that a cake is just a cake. Of course the cake she wanted, was complicated and as she asked about pricing and I started explaining things, you could just see the wheels turning. She finally asked me what I could do for $15 and for fun, I said, "Sing off tune". Couldn't help it, it just came out. SO I can relate.

There once was a gal from San Jose
An expert at writing cake prose, yey!
And so on Cake Central
It became fundamental
To search for her poem of the day.
Oh, ABC, 1,2, 3, ingredients in a batter
So you forgot flour, what does it matter?
ABC, 1, 2, 3
Cover it with buttercream,
Then your cake nightmare becomes a cake dream!
First of all, I love that poem!! I think we can all relate to it on some level.
SquirrellyCakes - I love your verse about Walmart. You are so funny!! I think you have to have a sense of humor to be in this business. I'm looking forward to the next poem ![]()
I think you are right, otherwise we would be crying or stomping mad a lot of the time, haha! Or in a snit, discouraged, disgusted, hhmn the list goes on. And I don't think that anyone understands as well as other cake decorators. I must say, I love Maxiecakes way of handling it all though, very creative!

That is such a great poem!
Thank you for the good cheer!!
I thought I was the only one that thought that way sometimes...
I just recently did a cake for my sister in laws wedding.... now her best friends cousin can't understand why I won't do one free for her as well... I was begining to think I wasn't cracked up for this little "side job", thanks for the laughs--needed it..![]()
Haha, yes, "little side job" or "little hobby", that costs big money, creates big work and big mess. Haha, we hear you kiddo!

LOVE your poem!! It has brought up a question I am wondering if you guys can answer? I have been friends with a woman for twenty years, known eachother since we were seven. Abote six months ago she asked me to make a cake for one hundred people, I agree. When I realized I was spending a lot of money out of my own pocket she offered to pay the cost, I said 40 bucks, she said 60 bucks, fine. Well, here it is six months later, no money, no thank you card, no nuttin!!!!! The pic is in my photos, the boy scout cake, and I was six months pregnant when I made the cake!!!! Anyways, was I wrong to basically end the friendship, I now only speak to her, maybe once a week, where as before everyday!!! What do you think?? Sorry so long!
I don't think you were wrong at all, you are going on how you feel. It is sad when people do something that changes how we feel about them and likely would feel phoney if you were to continue on like before. I don't know what to say, we can choose to forgive but sometimes we just cannot get the same feelings back for a person. And I cannot think of a nice way to bring this up, without just saying it out loud to her, if you are comfortable with it.
I have a relative that borrowed a lot of money and has never mentioned it again or made any effort to re-pay it. I don't take her calls anymore, I am always busy. The reason I don't is, she is likely calling to borrow more money and I just can't do that anymore. So I guess I am avoiding an unpleasant situation. Tough one, isn't it? I have sort of written off ever seeing the money again, but at the same time, the relationship, at least from my part, is also written off.

Maxiecakes and Squirrley - your poems are so funny! Thanks for a good laugh!
Maybe we should all print maxiecakes poem in very large letters and put it on a wall where people can see it...might head off a few "freeloaders". Janice
I agree, and make it the first page of our portfolios too!
Hugs SQuirrelly
