I'll bet this lady will "book you" well in advance for her next event, whether you decide to do this cake now or not. Afterall, she's procrastinated about locking you in.
That's how competetive she is appearing. So I wouldn't be concerned about any future lost business.

Wow, can you imagine doing the future wedding cake for her darling daughter. Yikes!!!

how can she expect you to not do any other orders on the busiest day of the week??? not to mention graduation coming up.

you need no ditch this nut case (no offence to nuts). and make way for the real customers...Good grief....this is one who will be hard to please on top of demanding.

keep us posted..."as the spatula turns"...same time same channel.

Yet another UPDATE!:

Looks like I won't have to break the bad news to her afterall.....she called my friend last night fishing for details about my friends party and she told her she had ordered the cake and was still finishing up with the party stuff, blah, blah, blah......then, dead silence!

The lady asked if she had found a new decorator? My friend acted all innocent and told her no, of course not. I'm getting it from the same lady who does all our cakes. SIL makes some excuse - says she has to go and hangs up.

Meanwhile my friend is doubled over laughing her butt off....she called me this morning to relay the whole story. Sound like the end? NO SUCH THING..... check this out!

Just checked my voicemail and low & behold there is a message from psycho lady (and I quote icon_smile.gif )

"" Hello. This is (blank). I assume since I haven't heard back you have decided not to accept my generous offer (I kid you not icon_eek.gif ). I've decided to give my business to my other decorator and I think this has all worked out for the best. I didn't want to say anything but the last cake I had of yours was quite dry......Good luck with your business. I really would not recommend trying to make cakes for money until you work out some problems, however. Real business people return calls in a timely fashion. And dry cakes is unacceptable. Hopefully you will take this for what it is, constructive criticism. And as a businesswoman you MUST learn to take criticism! Ok, well I've said my piece now. No need to phone me back - goodbye now""

Holy freakin' cow....... are there words enough to say what I was thinking??? lol, my biggest complaint is I laughed so hard I had a gut ache for half an hour! icon_lol.gif

And so, 'as the spoon turns' comes to an end....... can you believe this woman? The only thing I will say is I did delay calling her back because I hadn't decided what to say. Other then that, her whole message was a load of crap. If the cake was dry, why in the name of all that is HOLY would you want to order from me? Let alone be your "private decorator"? rotflmao

Ditto that! Normally I'm quite ladylike (well not really but work with me here)..but when I read your quote from her I literally snorted out loud.

Thanks for the entertaining adventure!

I sure wish you would reply to her with something, anything...I can't bear to think this story has ended...??!!

I've been following this thread and I'm in shock. icon_eek.gif I don't know how you can take it CakeDiva. I'd be boiling if I got a message like that. Probably would have to have a couple of drinks and then call her and tell her where to shove her criticism! icon_mad.gif And then do a KICK A$$ cake for your friends party and hope she see's what she is missing. What a tool!

You have gotta be kidding icon_eek.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gif

If your cakes were so dry and you shouldn't be in business then why did she want an exclusive contract and you to make the cake?!?!?! I say let the other decorator deal with her and you make the cake for your friend who will truly appreciate it. You will make a great one of course, but this woman will never see it for how great it is through her green glasses of envy.

I am glad you have had humor through this...you are my hero!

Language that offends is just like table manners, a function of time and geographic location. Try talking to a WWII vet who was in England during the war, my husband's grandpa was there and he talked about offending someone without knowing it.

I think no response at all is perfect. thumbs_up.gif

Sheâs the one who has gotten her pantyhose in a twist. Let her think that not only doesnât it matter to you, but that you donât have the time to bother with her.

Since she obviously thinks she is the biggest fish in the pond, sheâll have a hissyfit thinking you do not consider her worth the effort to respond to her pettiness.

You might want to make sure your friend doesn't serve her any of that nasty old dry cake. icon_razz.gif She may just have to have the bucket of water to wash it down! And I'd make sure she gets it! icon_twisted.gif This is so petty and stupid. icon_confused.gif Even if she bad-mouths you, anyone who truly knows her won't believe it anyway. First of all, I just wanted to thank you all for you kind words and support. I think If I hadn't been able to come here and vent, I may have taken after this woman with a hatchet!!!! icon_lol.gif

Now, onto the good stuff!!

I am invited to the party!!!!

Can you believe it? My friend is having such a hilarious time with this and is so pi$$ed that she is insisting that I not only deliver but stay, lol. She hates her SIL, and I'm sure you can see why!

I am going to be sure it is the best cake I have ever done. And as for dry cake, I don't make dry cake anymore. Maybe a couple of years back, before I knew what I was doing but now I watch those puppies like a hawk and let them cool for 5" before wrapping them in saran so none of the moisture is gone. Besides, my friend is NOT shy. If the cake was dry, she would speak up.

Ok, back to the drama, lol..... SIL calls friend last night to give deets of HER party. She has scheduled it a week later, even though her daughter is older. My friend figures that she will check out everything at the party and be sure to one-up each and every detail...which is cracking my friend up because they are just good ole' folk like me.

The SIL, on the other hand, is LOADED! So it won't be difficult to make her party fancier since she can throw a bunch of money at it! I think the problem is no matter how much "stuff" and "money" the SIL has, no one likes her so she is doing everything she can to be admired.

So she tells my friend, "You will just DIE when you see the cake I ordered for XXXXXX (her daughter). It will be amazing! I hope it doesn't upset XXXXX (the neice) because I know she really loves her cake - hahaha. Oh and we are renting a DJ, blah, blah, blah" and she went on and on for another 20 minutes.

So the BIL's work together and I guess he mentioned the bakery she went to......all this talk of another private decorator and after she found out I was doing the cake, she ran up to the bakery in their town. A regular bakery!! Like she was re-inventing the wheel!

And the funniest thing is she has NO IDEA that her SIL knows the real story, so she goes on and on making a fool of herself for nothing while my friend is stuffing her hand in her mouth to keep from laughing out loud!

Ok, whew! I will post pics and update what happened at the party - thanks again you guys! You're the best! icon_smile.gif
