AI am a wife, mom, and full time ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon (eyelid and eye socket specialist). I love to bake and decorate for family, friends, and as a big thank you to my co-workers. I couldn't do it without my DH who supports me, encourages me, and gives me the time and space to bake. He is also an honest critic, taste tester and a great source of ideas. Baking is something I really enjoy doing, and also is a great way to relax and regroup from a busy life. I am fortunate to get to do this for fun, and greatly admire those of you who bake for a living and must deal with difficult customers, pricing, dead lines and licensing issues.

AI work in IT, and my job consists mostly of managing a SAP Business Intelligence system (data warehousing, web-based reporting, and dashboards supporting Finance, HR, Project Management, and Procurement) for a Fortune 50 company -- it's a great mix of technology, business, and design. I work from home, which has its good points (easy commute) and bad points (blurred lines between work time and non-work time).

I'm also an author on the side, and I founded an allergy-friendly bakery with my wife (a pastry chef) in San Jose in 2008. I sold the bakery in 2011 when my daughter was born.

I was a middle school Spanish teacher for 5 years, and then I sold cars.  Switched to selling Lancome cosmetics at Macy's and finally ended up becoming a sales representative for a college textbook publisher.  Now I am a SAHM to one daughter who is 6. I sell cakes once in awhile (have a very small baking business), but mostly do it as a hobby.

I'm a school psychologist. People always say you should advertise, but I get so many cake orders that it becomes burdensome because I can only bake on weekends and after 4 when I get home...taking a break for a while...it gets to be too much...people don't understand how time consuming these cakes are.  Now I'm baking for myself trying to enjoy it again.

Cakes are time consuming!!! I don't do a lot of cakes because I work on a casual basis and I've got a 1,3 and 7 year old and when they're playing and I'm in the kitchen trying to get perfect smooth sides on a ganached cake I sometimes feel a twinge of guilt and regret because I'd rather be playing with them. I decided not to take on any cakes the holidays (for this reason) and then I got asked to do my mum's birthday cake for the 14th of January. Bummer!!!!

BTW my casual job is a professional childcare worker. lol So I'm around kids alllll the time!!!

I'm a cost controller for an engineering consultancy group, mostly for the mining sector.  I'm up to the grandma status (darn, I don't feel that old or according to my son I don't act it either).  Got the greatest present for Christmas, a second granddaughter.  Is it too greedy to wish for more considering I only had one child? I say "heck no".

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and best wishes for the new year.

AMost importantly, I am a wife & mom to 3 beautiful kids: 3, 6, & 8. I've also managed a career as an architect over the past 10 years, and have designed schools, hospitals, & residences. My favorite was an early learning center for preschool children at a local university. In my spare time, I make cakes for friends & family. Wish I had more time to spare.

What a fun topic. It's nice to learn a little about the people behind these beautiful cakes.

AI sell software for Research and Development to companies (Pharmaceutical, cosmetics. Food and Beverage etc.) I travel a ridiculous amount which is why I make very few cakes per year. I fly about 100,000 miles/year - both internationally and domestically. Any London based bakers want US products let me know! I travel to the UK about every other month.
