Lovebirds In The Moonlight
I have always been fascinated with paintings of two birds in tree silhouette facing the bright full moon. Love the effect and it’s very romantic. I was given a color palette of blue, black, brown and white. Perfect for my inspiration and blue is my most favorite color. Since my inspiration came from an acrylic painting, I decided to paint the background, the moon and the sky. I adore Ruffles and wafer paper – used these for my details. I named my cake design “Lovebirds in the Moonlight”. Hope you like it!

Sweetness Of 16
I love this design. It has been awhile when I used SMBC BUTTERCREAM to finish a cake. No fondant cover…I had planned to do a rustic design since the party will be in a cottage. Then I thought an abstract design will be nice to show the different shades of purple requested by the celebrant. I hope you like it! Thanks for looking all the best!

Beautiful Bride-To-Be
Good Evening/Morning dear friends! Here’s my latest creation for a beautiful lady’s Bridal Shower, she’s getting married in August (I think). The cake was requested by her equally beautiful Mom. Four things on this cake: 1. Figure made of modelling chocolate (except for the dress and shoes). One thing about using modelling chocolate to make a figure — YOU CANNOT keep on rolling and re-rolling the medium between your palm or fingers, it will make the modelling chocolate too soft to handle. This is the downside to using modelling chocolate I find — especially if you have warm hands and the weather too hot (it’s summer here in Canada). It’s a little frustrating — however, FOR ME, modelling chocolate is really the best medium for figure modelling. You have lots of time to manipulate your figure. It took me more time though, I kept on putting it in the freezer to cool the modelling chocolate when it gets too soft — but I still love it. 2. Edible Sequins by Kara’s Couture Cakes, awesome! Thanks Kara! I used 4 packs of the Knox Gelatine to make the edible sequins on the cake…Check out Kara’s page or her Youtube channel to learn how to make the edible sequins. 3. Marvelous Molds — It’s a little tricky but once you get the technique, it’s awesome! Having a pasta machine to roll the fondant to a certain thickness helped a lot. I rolled the fondant to the number 4 setting on the past machine. 4. Love the ready to use Isomalt that I won from CakeFu Giveaway from Simi Cakes and Confections. I used it for the ring and the earrings. First time to use Isomalt and I love it! What do you think?

Charlotte
CHARLOTTE’S 1ST BIRTHDAY Cake I made past weekend which gave me a lot of worries — I was really glad that despite of: 1. Me not feeling quite well Friday night, I was able to prepare the cake, frost and ganache 2. Otherwise, i’m doomed as I woke up Saturday morning with NO POWER (actually until today due to a storm) – there were approx. 190,000 families with no power but is slowly getting restored as of today. 3. Then the client emailed on the delivery day (Sunday) that she was hoping I did not finish the cake. Due to the power outages in the region, she decided to postpone the party but I already finished the cake prior to her cancellation. I explained this to her and she was understanding about the situation — hence I delivered the cake. She eventually pushed through with the party. It’s refreshing to know that my clients are responsible! And she even gave me a tip. Awesome! Have a great day everyone!

Love For Biking And Pens
Painted Cake...Cake Decorating as an art? Used the cake covered in fondant as my canvass and edible food gel to paint a landscape view on the bottom tier. Not an original concept mind you but it’s my first time to paint on a cake. A friend asked me to make a cake for his brother turning 40 today who is into biking and fountain pen. She just got the cake and she’s very happy and almost cried. All edible except the wires in the wheels.

The Minecraft Cake
The Minecraft Cake Here’s a cake I made this weekend for my friend’s son turning 7. She said that she tried to persuade her son for a different theme, but failed to. The squares where cut individually. I downloaded several photos of Minecraft images (wallpaper, background, etc) but really should have settled for an image captured from the game itself. After putting all the squares, and taking a photo, I wasn’t too satisfied with the color/shade of browns and greens I chose. It’s now growing on me — thankful to my cake community friends for the assurance that this is fine. Although it might be a lot of work cutting the squares on the day of the assembly, i think this is still the best way to do it. The squares will still be a little soft therefore will adhere closer to each other thereby giving little gaps between each square. I cut the squares two weeks before and cover them with saran wrap. Although it was easier to handle and individually placed them on the cake, i find that you can’t really smoothen the squares to make gaps smaller. The blue squares were cut as I was assembling, so I was able to smoothen it closer to the four squares around it. Hope you’ll like it! Happy Tuesday all! hugs

Whimsical Castle Cake
This year I get so little cake request ...so if there is an opportunity to make one, I grab it so I will be able to practice some designs. Here's one I made last night for an Auction today. It's a 10 x 5 in cake with fondant/gumpaster decors. The castle is all edible except for the skewers to hold them. Thanks for looking! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Golden Yellow Gift Box Cake
Bake two (2) 10 x 3 in round cakes and two (2) pillow pan shaped cake. Torte the round cakes into four and fill with your favorite filling. Create a dam or circle of icing just inside the edge of the cake. This will prevent any filling from seeping out when the next layer is added. I frosted the cakes using chocolate ganache. I really love frosting the cake with ganache compared to buttercream when covering the cake with fondant. It is true what the experts say that you can get that perfect sharp edges using ganache frosting. I placed the cakes in the refrigerator overnight (or 4 hours will do). It took me about 8 hours to decorate the whole cake. Starting from the cake board, the bottom cake, the lid and the pillow cake. I put five (5) dowels on the bottom tier with the dowels cut slight higher than the cake, to make the open lid effect. I used styroform for the lid although I could have used a 10 x 2 in round cake instead. Hope you like my creation this week!

Gumpaste Bird W/ Instructions
Made this for my next cake project using gumpaste. To do this bird: 1. Get a ball of gumpaste or fondant (w/ tylose powder) and roll using your hand to make a cone shape. 2. Then shape the head using your fingers (just to make the indentation) 3. I used yellow gumpaste to make the beak. Get a small ball of gumpaste and roll into cone shape. Get a scissor and cut halfway to make the open beak. Attach using melted chocolate. Get a piece of paper and put in between the cut (beak). The paper will be replaced by the twig that you will be making later. 3. Bend the bird and insert a stick (skewer or lolipop stick) 4. Flatten the smallest end to make the tail and score them using your pallete knife 5. To make the wings, I use the Wilton leaf cutter (the biggest one). try to re-shapre the widest end to make it more rounded and then score the wings as shown in the photo. 6. Get a small bowl and put cornstarch powder - you will use this to dry the wings so it will dry to the position you want. 7. The next morning attach the wings using melted chocolate. 8. Make the twig using gumpaste and let it dry. Once dry, attached to the beak using melted chocolate.
