Easter Is Hare
A made a small cake, since it’s going to be just hubby & I for Easter. Wanted a fun spring Easter cake. Painted a little garden scene on the front of the cake, which includes a royal icing piped bunny. Had to add my signature coffee filter paper flowers, so popped on a yellow daffodil. On top, birds nest is gum paste and piped royal icing painted with colour gels. It’s filled with combo of real dried grasses and cut up coloured coffee filter paper. Blue bird’s eggs are gum paste speckled with brown colour gel. The Easter Hare is hand drawn with pencil and black food colour markers on a gum paste plaque. Added coffee filter paper ears for dimension. And the Hare has to have his carrots…. there gum paste of course!! Bottom of cake is sitting on a real tree stump surrounded by real dried grasses with a gum paste Easter Lily. Had fun making this cake. Hope it makes you smile…

James The Red Engine Cake
Made this cake for my grandson Hudson’s 2nd birthday. He loves, loves, loves trains. Every time Hudson visits, he says watch “train show please grandma”. His favorite train tho isn’t Thomas…his favorite is James the red Engine, because he loves the colour red. Every time James appears in the show, Hudson asks to rewind and watch him over & over to see him!! And….Hudson’s middle name is …what else…“James”. Hudson was sooo excited when he saw his cake..he kept saying..train cake Mommy, train cake!! Warmed my heart. ❤ Top tier is 3 cake layers, 2 chocolate mud and orange pound cake in the middle. Iced in orange buttercream. Covered in orange flavored blue fondant. James the train is made from gumpaste, clouds are homemade marshmallow fondant. Hudson letters are made from red modeling chocolate. Bottom is a cake dummy with a brick wall, train tracks climbing up the cake with train tracks on cobblestones and little black trains made from a mold. The number 2 is gumpaste. This was a labour of love. ps: That’s my handsome son-in-law Jamie with Hudson on his lap…

A Winter Hat Cake For Lynne
My daughter asked me early in the week to make a birthday cake for he Mom in law’s 65th birthday party today. I was very busy, and I remembered I got an email from The Cake Blog with this cake by The Cakegirls, Mary & Brenda Maher. The Winter Hat…perfect..quick, cute, simple. Decided I would do my version of this cake. Made the poinsettia on the top of the hat, instead of the pom pom, and snowflakes instead of reindeer in the original. Poinsettia is made from clay craft clay. I piped the icing on the cake..after marking off 3 distinctive rows. Went well, chilling in between. Then disaster!! My white icing started to slide off the cake!! It piped on so perfectly..seemed the right consistency. So, there I was, 8 pm at night, scraped off all the icing, made a new batch of white bc and repiped . Thank goodness cake was small, didn’t take long. Cake was gingerbread torted with gingerbread bc and iced with white vanilla bc and brown citrus flavored bc. I hope she liked it.

A Merry Little Christmas Tree
Saw a tutorial on a social media site…and new I just had to try it. Used a small ice cream cone and covered it with small circles of green gumpaste. You could also use a styrofoam form. Added tiny white and red ball decorations and snowflake topper. Placed on a candy cane skirt. Fun to make…

The Human Torch
I have been honoured to be part of an incredible global group of cake artists who have come together to celebrate the life of Joshua Wilson, a brave little boy who lost his battle with a Brain Tumour. Joshua loved Superheroes and cake and is infamously known to everyone as “Superjosh” In true Superhero style Josh’s Charity continues to raise funds for other families needing support through their child’s Illness. This collaboration hopes the raise further awareness of the charity and hopefully raise some funds along the way. Each Artist was nominated a Super hero. It was a real privilege and honour to participate in this collaboration. This is my interpretation of The Human Torch. Hand is rct's surrounded by piping gel fire. Fire coming out of his fingers are melted suckers with added piping gel, piping gel fire in the palm of the hand as well. His face is gumpaste, surrounded by fire..which is a combo of gumpaste, melted suckers and royal icing.

Happy Birthday Cupcake
Made this cupcake for my good friend & next door neighbour Eleanor last weekend for her surprise birthday party. I didn’t make a full birthday cake as her children and other relatives attending have a multitude of food intolerances…way too many to accommodate. The cupcake wrapper is all chocolate, inside is a mango & raspberry cupcake frosted with chocolate/caramel flavoured bc. Sitting on a cupcake stand surrounded by oreo and oatmeal cookie crumb “dirt”, and a small fondant succulent on top.

Alm's Birthday Cake
This was a quick cake. My daughter-I-lw texted me asking if I could make a small b-day for her good friend. We were all attending a wine & ladies get together at my daughters home. Baked and gnashed Friday, decorated Saturday morning for delivery that evening. I was very happy how smooth and clean my gnashed cake turned out considering how little time I had to fuss. Bottom diamond covered tier is a cake dummy. Made several weeks ago to be used for my anniversary cake, which was last week….but life a health got in the way. Didn’t happen. So I just had to add to it. Alms is East Indian, so I tried to used moulded embellishments that had a East Indian flair to them. Cake is a chocolate Victoria sponge flavoured with orange liqueur, torted with chocolate bc and kitkat chocolate bar. Made the coffee filter paper rose Friday night while watching tv, coloured the edges with purple colour gel Saturday morning. All in all, happy how the cake came out…tasted yummy too!!

I Can't Miss!!
This is a birthday cake for my hubby. He didn't want a lot fuss, but I couldn't not have a birthday cake for him, especially it being his 65th. This is a small cake for a family dinner. It's a Mango cake torted with fresh pineapple, and iced with pineapple buttercream. We made Minion figures at my last cake club meeting a few weeks ago. I took my little Minion home and turned him into a golfer. You've probably guessed by now....hubby is a BIG golfer...right up until it's too cold to golf!!! He often misses on his putts....so I gave him the benefit of a larger then life 18th hole....hee hee

Chris & Megan's Wedding Cake
Was an absolute glorious day for my son and brides wedding. Beautiful weather….perfect day. As bride Megan requested, a very small wedding cake, two 6/3" semi-naked cakes. They were citrus flavoured victoria sponge with orange liqueur flavoured bc in between. Colour scheme was pinks & beiges. Bottom double barrel tier was 2 cake dummies. Cake was decorated in a rustic theme with emphasis on burlap, since the wedding venue was in a converted barn. Cake board was pink coloured gumpaste resembling wood grain. Flowers were a keepsake…made from coffee filter papers and clay craft clay. I made 4 little flower pots covered in burlap ribbon and added the sign language letters for L O V E. Used drywall compound dyed pink to pipe into the pots. Put little black gumpaste hearts on the front of the pots with corresponding chalkboard letters. This was to include Megan’s parents who are deaf, and the many deaf relatives attending….including there culture into the wedding. The picture is a bit dark, as is the whole cake table, as I only had time for a quick pic before heading home after set up, to get changed and return.

Semi Naked Cake Experiment
As I'm making my son's wedding cake soon I've been experimenting with different techniques. I was wondering what a semi naked cake would look like with coloured icing on top, instead of a plain top or white icing. And coloured icing, as opposed to white, showing after scraping most of it off the cake. Definitely don’t like it….icing just has to be white. Looks rather queer to me with coloured icing. So white icing it will be for the wedding cake. This semi-naked cake is a Victoria sponge, flavoured with orange, lemon & almond. While the cake was still warm from the oven, I brushed with almond/lemon flavoured simple syrup. Torted with orange marmalade bc icing. I found a little bit of leftover modeling chocolate I forgot I had, tucked away in the freezer. So I made free hand, a large rose & rosette with leaves for adornment.
