Holly Hobby 2D Figure
We made 2D figures at my monthly cake club meeting. Lots of fun. I created the gumpaste plaque at home and placed the figure on a previously decorated cake dummy.
Nearly Naked Cake
Practice cake for my son's upcoming fall wedding. Gumpaste dianthus, chrysanthemums, berries, coffee filter filler flowers and white rose.
Dino & Cupcakes
All fondant Dino and chocolate fudge cupcakes for Landon who is celebrating his 5th birthday today.
Flowers & Pickles
Well this was a super quick cake. Got called at 5 pm last night to make a birthday cake for my future daughter-in-law Megan’s sister Rachael. So baked, torted and crumb coated last night. I had free reign, as much as you can have in 24 hr period. All Megan wanted was a pickle on top of the cake. Huh?? A pickle?? I knew Rachael’s dogs name was Pickles, and apparently there’s a private joke with the this pickle thing….I didn’t ask. Just had to figure out a fun way to incorporate the pickle. I had a leftover paper clay fantasy flower, so thought it would be fun to pop the pickle on top of the flower…make it girly and silly. Megan loved it. Added small jalepenios in front of the “pickle flower” cause they just seemed to go together. Cake is a vanilla raspberry lemon, torted with raspberry jam and homemade lemon curd. Covered in white chocolate caramel flavoured buttercream and lots of fondant daisies.
Painted Valentine's Cake
I won a book at my cake club meeting, painting on cakes a while ago. So I thought I'd give it a try. First thing I realized is, I didn't have the expensive brushes suggested in the book.....sooooo, I used what I had, and adapted. I also decided to have some fun by adding coffee filter paper pansies & a ruffle to the edge of the cake, wanted some whimsy. Bottom is a 8"dummy. Top is a tree trunk cake. Cake is almond orange torted with buttercream laced with triple sec liqueur, covered in triple sec flavoured ganache. And of course, topped with Valentine's heart. Really had fun doing this.... Happy Valentine's Day everyone....
Well I Have To Say This Its Been A Very Long Time That I Was Up To The Wee Hours Finishing A Cake Daughter Called Me Thursday Asking I
Well, I have to say this it's been a very long time that I was up to the wee hours finishing a cake. Daughter called me Thursday asking if I could make her father-in-laws 65th birthday cake for this Saturday.....today. Of course, I can never just do a simple plain ole cake!!! Jim has a motorcycle, which he's passionate about, and he LOVES to gamble & play cards....so I incorporated Jim holding cards, and added dice and a 2D motorcycle. Had no time to make a full scale motorbike. Jim is a little on the "portly" side and bald....so I hope he won't mind that I made him a little rotund.....hee hee. When I finished my figure & motorbike....I put in my oven all night with the light on to dry....worked great!! ❤️
Pink & Black
Avant Gard Cake This is cake #2 for my future daughter-in-law, Megan's surprise party. 1st cake was on her actual birthday in December. December was so hectic, hard to find time to squeeze in a party, let alone a organized "surprise party". Well, hopefully Megan will be truly surprised. So being a 2nd cake, wanted to make something completely different, a little out of the box. I had a few ideas in my head, I wanted girly hot pink...and Megan likes black...so this is what I came up with.
A Christmas Angel For Elaine
I have a very good friend who is going through a particularly difficult time. I've been so busy, there's been no time to visit, even tho she's just 30 minutes away. My friend loves Angels, hearts and all things sparkly .. So I decided to use my clay craft clay, and make her a Angel. Quickly made yesterday. Dried over night and lustre dust added today. I'm hopeful the Angel will lift her spirits, even if it's temporary, and bring a smile to her face.
Happy Birthday Snowgirl Megan
This is a biggie for my future daughter-in-law, Megan. The 3. & 0. Birthday!! Since its a week before Christmas, thought I’d keep the cake festive. Bottom is pecan caramel cake, with chopped pecans added and caramel buttercream icing. Icing is swirled to represent snow, with silver & white sanding sugar and silver dragees. Top is a styrofoam dummy with gumpaste Santa with his sack…the chimney….to slide down of course, and Snowgirl Megan holding a Christmas gift, with more gifts in front of her. Gingerbread men standing guard around the cake. Little mounds of bc snow also dusted with silver & white sanding sugar. This was fun to make. I hope Megan approves of her “likeness”. ❤️
Mini Halloween Cupcakes
I’ve been suffering with migraines the last 3 days….weather related…yuk..but I couldn’t disappoint the few neighbourhood children that look forward to there special Halloween cupcakes I make each year. Making them helped keep my mind off of feeling lousy. Still, it was fun. Thanks to Zoe’s fancy cakes tutorial for the Frankenstein cupcakes.
Betty's Birthday Cake
This was cake made for a collaboration of birthday cakes for a lovely decorator named Betty. Several of my cake decorating colleagues on another cake site posted our tribute buttercream piped cakes in honour of her birthday…to try and show Betty how much her cakes have inspired us, and show her how we are all motivated to improve our piping skills by looking at her wonderful cakes. Betty makes the most awesome buttercream cakes with amazing piping and bc flowers. Working in buttercream is definitely a art!!! One of which I need much practice….think I’ll stick to fondant…..
Eleanor's Birthday Cake
Chocolate fudge bundt cake with marbled bc icing & fondant roses. Gumpaste pot of clay craft roses as a keepsake. Thanks for looking.......
Chalkboard cake with mexican paste house & stick figures. Clay pots with clay flowers.
Little Anniversary Cake
Have 2 more cakes to do this week, and I’m busy, but since I didn’t make a b-day cake for my hubby last week, thought I’d pop out a small combo b-day/anniversary cake. Made quickly yesterday & finished last night. Going out to dinner with family…back to the house for cake & coffee afterwards. Vanilla almond sour cream cake…used fondant left over from my b-day cake… not much time to smooth and fuss…so quick swirls of colours and lustre dust on my imperfect covering. Had the broach made months ago..so just popped it on for affect. Blue clay flower (to hide a dodgy corner) and coloured a wafer paper flower to make match fondant.
Nancy's Birthday Cake
Cake design based on a cake by Deb Williams Cakes. I did my own twist on her design, instead of sugar lace all over, I opted for light grey doily on top and dark grey ruffles, with a small piece of lace in the front. Cake is banana with peach mango bc filling. Fun coffee filter fantasy flower for accent.
cherry vanilla cupcakes and gumpaste flowers made quickly to give to a friend as a pick me up. She recently got out of hospital and it was also her birthday. Brought a smile to her face....
No Occasion Cake
Ok, the story behind this....I had made the hydrangea flower topper and accompanying scrunchie flowers for a surprise 70th birthday party that never happened. Mainly because we couldn't get the birthday girl to the party. She always seemed to have plans. Since I was part of our little theatre group who was trying to create the party, my feeling was we should have given up the subterfuge, and just told her we wanted to give her a party. Birthday girl and our little group have now scattered for the summer...so the vanilla lemon cakes I made for the party were just languishing in my freezer. So I thought...I'm bored, going to decorate and use up the flowers I made. Added wafer paper fan for some fun.....
