Cake With Slice Missing
Thanks to Suebee, Cambo, Pinkbunny and Psurrette for posting their versions of this style of "trompe l'oeil" cake. I loved them all and thought I'd try my hand at something fun. The client gave me the floral design to copy somewhere on a cake, so I did it as the side pattern and wowed him with the rest. One thing I couldn't do was to put my slice standing up. The cake itself was already 6" tall, so it was too delicate to have another 6" standing on top....so I laid it on it's side instead.

Taupe Fondant Cake With Dark Burgundy Ribbon Roses
I am SOOOOO glad this wedding is over! (Seriously, I have 72 pages of emails in 6 months from this couple about exact colours/scrolls/sizing/stand/flavours. I wanted to change careers and become a mail carrier in the end!!) Anyhoo, hope she's happy...or I'll have to get a new printer cartridge just to hear about it.

Hearts In Peach & Ivory
The bride asked for this copy of the red & white heart cake from the U.K. company "Have Your Cake And Eat It" (www.haveyourcakeandeatit.org) but in her colours of peach & ivory. I did her version using buttercream to be lighter, but MAN is it hard to ice heart shaped cakes! I'm just not used to it. I don't even have the pans, so all the layers were cut by hand using 3 patterns. Feather boa as the topper was okay, but I didn't plan it out very well. Forgot that would stick to the icing b/c not fondant! Ick!

Mad Hatter 10Th Anniversary Bbq
SO much fun to do. Cake was a HUGE 8" and 14" combination, each tier was 7" tall! This client wanted to combine their love of blues and Mississippi-based music with their 10th anniversary BBQ garden party. She also wanted to have a whole tier representing her lush, overgrown garden. Did all the little harmonica, guitar, 10, flowers and musical notes in gumpaste. Candy rocks around the 1st tier. All IMBC.

Dusty Rose Bow Cake
This wedding's colours were a dark dusty rose and silvery grey. They loved the look of rounded corners, but didn't want fondant. I rounded the corners of this IMBC buttercream cake by simply icing it as usual, then slicing off the rim in 3 turns of the cake on the turntable. I let them chill an hour in the fridge, then took them out an spun them on the turntable as I held a piece of waxed paper over the rims to smooth them out as best I could. Gumpaste bow topper and grey fondant strips on all tiers.

Andy Warhol-Inspired Cake
(I hope it's okay to publish this from a magazine photo!? I stupidly forgot to take any of my own before I submitted it!) A magazine here in Toronto asked me to produce a cake inspired by the art of Andy Warhol last year and this is the cake I created for them. (It has just been published on page 137 of "Weddingbells" for Toronto/Southern Ontario, the Fall/Winter 2006 issue!) I was inspired by Warhol's daisy lithographs and of course his famous "Campbell's soup can" art, mine is in gumpaste on top.

Novcake_-_Trailercampwm.jpg
Thanks to Swoboda & KGunn for your trailer-themed cakes. They were very inspirational in creating my version! I used 2 loaf pans of pound cake to make the trailer, covered in white chocolate fondant (purchased) and detailed with my trusty Americolor pens. Used the chocolate wafers of 2 Oreo cookies to make the wheels....and I ate the icing filling for energy! haha Bottom cake is 12" x 18" Carrot Cake filled with Maple-Pecan Buttercream. Path stones are fondant & campfire is a Cadbury Flake choc bar.

Cupcake Favours
These were the wedding favours for 2 grooms last night. They wanted to somehow blend Americana with Canadiana....so I made Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting, edged them with pecans and then topped each one with a red maple leaf in marzipan! They fit perfectly in the large Chinese take-out containers so the guests could take them home easily. I used the frosted white plastic ones for a bit prettier look.
