Butterfly Sheet
The idea for this cake, which I entered in a contest, is taken from a book about painting on wood. A 12x8x2 sheet is iced in buttercream, airbrushed lightly in several colors, a thick (high) border is piped, then a prepared full sheet of wafer paper is added. The border holds the wafer paper up off the top of the cake. The sheet of wafer paper is a bit smaller than the size of the cake so I had to use extra large borders to hold it in place. Before adding it to the cake you cut out designs - in this case flowers, willows, and the butterfly. Outline the cutout areas to highlight them. Color the b'fly and add it on top of it all. Would make a great, simple, generic design for a non-theme cake need.

Generic, Basic Buttercream
Here is a very nice, generic, basic, easy-to-do graduation design- just what one needs for some of those many grad cakes you have to make soon. This 12x16x2 sheet is iced with buttercream. A plastic grad hat has some gumpaste ivy leaves around it. The cake is presented on a foil (warpping paper) covered board. Here's a tip when bordering your square & sheet cakes - especially if doing shells.....think "L7". Start on one long side, go down and across the short end ("L"); now go back to the beginning and pipe across the short side and down the long side ("7"). I'm told this is one thing judges look for on cakes entered in contests.

Best Wishes
This is one of those designs that could be used for many different occasions including a lady's birthday, bridal shower, congratulations, Mother's Day; and others with a simple change of the message and color combination! The basic design comes from one of Mary Ford's books. A 10x2" sq on a 14" sq board allows room for the extended border work. Any flowers could accent it.......here I've used daisies and sweet peas. Colored glitter accents the recipients name.

Holy Cow Another Birthday
This was made for a minister's birthday. The cows are drawn on wafer paper with non-toxic, felt-tipped pens (in the days long before food writers!) They are saying "Holy cow another one?" and "Have an udderly divine birthday pastor". The cake is comprised of two 10" squares placed end to end, on a board covered in mylar wrapping paper.

Gone With The Wind
A small (8x12x2) sheet cake with picture airbrushed on wafer paper placed on buttercream icing. The lady who was celebrating her b'day owned a video store and her favorite movie is "Gone w/the wind". It was the perfect theme for her:) All decorations (roses) and message are buttercream piped on the mylar covered cake board.

Boy's Dinosauer Birthday
A 9x13x4 sheet is topped with a 3-D dino which consists of one layer 9" round. Cut it in 1/2, stack those and place cut edge down on the sheet. All icing is buttercream. The neck is made up of cake scraps and marshmellows. The top of the jaw is a tongue depressor (the only non-edible on the cake),. Legs and tail piped icing. I have made at least 1/2 dozen of these, each slightly different.

Grad Cap On Sheet
In this area *everyone!* wants a full sheet for graduation........I think I did 16 of them that year. All buttercream; plastic cap; (little ones around the edges are wafer paper). This simple design can be made different by changing what you put in the squares.....use the school initials; sport or other interest things to individualize it.

Castle Wedding
I hope I can remember the sizes of this cake: The main castle consists of (I think) 16x4, 12x4, 12x4, 6x2" rounds; the satellite cakes are 2 each 6x4, 9x4, and 12x4" rounds. All iced in buttercream. The turrets are styro tubes topped w/gold foil. There is a water fountain in front of the castle along w/their topper. the design of this cake is based on one I saw at another shop I had visited.
