BJ, Thank for the receipe. I also cannot find Sorbitol. I was wondering if I could replace it with truvia or xylitol?
I am going to check GNC for Sorbitol but my Whole Foods does not carry it. Please let me know if you think truvia or xylitol would work.
This cake was a TOTAL disaster! I followed the recipe to every detail. But when it came to mixing things together it was like trying to mix bread dough with my mixer. The shortening and the sorbitol would not mix with each other no matter what I tried. I did try and bake it just to see what would happen and was totally disappointed. It was flat, it had an AWFUL aftertaste! All my ingredients were fresh so it can't be that! Truly a waste of all my ingredients!
What was the end result... can you use truvia or another substitute? if not, where can i findSorbitol? Thanks! :-)
You may be able to find Sorbitol at a Health Food Store. I know they carry fructose so they may have Sorbitol also.
I used splenda and it didnt work. I'm thinking that sorbitol is maybe like honey or agave nector? To make this better next time I think I will add a packet of dream whip and also some pudding in the cake. That would make it more moist and thicker. HTH!
I don't recommend using sorbitol. It can cause abdominal cramping and diarrhea! Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol which is a reduced calorie sweetener (often used in sugar free gum).
