A student at the karate school where I teach wanted a birthday cake that had a black ninja and a red ninja fighting with gold swords. So, that's what he got! The cake is buttercream iced and sponged. The ninjas are wire framed with modeling chocolate to fill out the bodies and pre-colored fondant to make the clothes. The swords weren't as thin and sharp looking as I'd have liked, but I was happy with how they looked. I discovered that somehow I had lost my black petal dust so I highlighted the black creases with food coloring and that was a mistake...they are shiny. I'll look more carefully next time!
