Lily Cake
I was trying to be accommodating and agreed to have the cake ready the day before the date originally agreed. That was a big mistake! I would have been able to fix the bulges, etc and probably wouldn't haven't even had them if I had not tried to rush. Next time I will stick to the first date. This is a copy of a Lindy Smith cake from Cakes to Inspire and Desire. I was not thrilled with her instructions and the lack of size data.
Your design is exquisite... the bulging is unfortunate. Love your callas... :)
Your cake it still stunning!
Your callas are great! It looks like a difficult cake to execute- but you did well.
Great job on the cake. I have heard that about her lastest book.
Hmmm, let me guess, you had to put boards between the cakes and then roll the whole thing in fondant?! I did one of her cakes in this fashion and it's really hard to get it perfect, so you did a great job ;-D
It's still purdy :) Your cala lillies are flawless ;-D
I was hysterical by the time I got to the part about turn cake on its side, roll it in fondant. Not as easy as it sounds and I was having trouble freezing the last layer. This cake was a problem from the start. I finally decied when I did the ecru to line bottom of the fondant to the bottom of the vinyl and apply vertically. That is what I should have done with the white. Turning this cake over on its side is a crock. Also I split the ecru into 2.
I have just bought this book & I'm not over impressed with it. This is one of the few I really liked & you did a great job.
I've been wanting to do this cake from Lindy Smith's book. I thank you for your hints! I think it looks great and your callas are fantastic!
