Is it called World of Cake Decorating?? I've been there its the best store I have seen, great prices, great staff (more than willing to give away secrets) and they have fondant thats way better then Wiltons... (although I think I will try MMF next time) The lady even let me watch a few classes before I decided if I wanted to sign up or not... They do not have a web site though..

Thanks for the help

Heehee, that is the store I was trying to think of. Haha, boy was I off with the name, haha!
When I lived in Ajax, Mc Calls didn't sell to the public and a lot of those places didn't exist. So I went to the Sugar Chalet, 310 Stevenson Rd. N., Oshawa, Ont. Tiny little store packed to the ceiling with stuff. Very helpful staff, they do up lovely sugar decorations and are fairly reasonable too. They rent pans and have a good selection of discontinued pans for rent. They make cakes too and the decorators are really good and helpful.

I always buy from the Bulk Barn as well. But one time, I bought the icing sugar to make candy roses. I notice that when I add the icing sugar, my mixture becomes bubbly. I think they had a mixed upi and that looks like baking soda. anyway, from then on, I just buy cake boards, boxes, things that I am sure what it looks like.
There's a wholesaler store name Baker's Warehouse at 1290 Fewster Dr in Mississauga. This is Mccall's too, but if you have a business, it is cheaper to go here. I love going to Mccall's here in Etobicoke, it's 10 minute drive from work.

I remember a while ago Antonia74 was telling me about a store in downtown T.O but I can't remember the name of it. McCall's sounds familiar though too.

Squirrley.....

I live about 10 minutes from Sugar Chalet, in Brooklin.....I didn't realize they rented pans and stuff.....it took soomeone in Ottawa to tell me about something 10 minutes away from me....THANK YOU SO MUCH..
THe Wal Mart near me - Whitby, never carried any Wilton stuff, I would go down the baking aisle frequently to get spoons, measuring cups etc...and nothing and then in the last month or so, all of a sudden, they cleared a spot, brought in pans, bags, pattern press sets etc.....

Haha, well maybe they are getting back into the Wilton stuff where you are, go figure, geesh. I know I was upset when they pulled all of the Wilton stuff off the shelf here. Reminds me of the craft stuff, they used to have a really terrific selection and then when White Rose went under, Walmart started to downsize their craft supply. Geesh!
Haha, don't feel bad, I didn't even know about Golda's Kitchen when I lived in that area. Or that Mc Calls put on courses, geesh.
If you go through Peterborough, there is also a great little decorating shop, I think they put on courses there too. I cannot think of the name, but it would be in the Yellow Pages.

Well good for you kiddo! Hhmn, just reminded me of the reason I don't miss living there, haha! Gosh, I do not miss the 4 am wakeup, leaving the house at 5:15 to get to work. Getting home 12 hours later, hhmn! Driving when there was three snowflakes or heaven forbid, freezing rain, haha! I worked in Scarborough and prior to that, downtown. Great area for things to do and see and shopping, just the getting there part is hard to take, haha!
Good luck!

Did they keep their main stores in Toronto area open? I thought they all closed down except perhaps for the main one. Can't find any info on White Rose before the bankruptcy.
Heehee you may be right, I may just have to venture down yet. I miss B.B. Bargoons too!

Micheals is kind of expensive, I think My teacher would get upset when I told the other ladies to just go to the bulk barn and get stuff. Sometimes I would go in and buy stuff for them and just bring in to class. She was Trying to convince me to buy the 5 lb Wiltons fondant for 34$. I told her I can get a 5 lb container of Virgin Ice fondant for 14$. And it taste so much better than Wilton's. (I think I convinced her to switch to Virgin Ice - she really likes the taste of it.) But yes Michaels' prices burns my a$$ just Thinking about Them. I really hate how they make me go To Great lengths to get all my items 40% off too. Thank goodness for friends, numerous trips and different locations.

Did Wally World really pull the Wilton stuff? I see Wilton products all The time there. The seem to be replacing it all The time too... what's the deal?

Hey Squirrrelly,
I just did a search for it and there's a white rose craft and nursery supply that exists in Markham. I'm just not sure if it's the same one that you're talking about.

Should be Danilela. They originally had one or two stores in the Toronto area then they expanded all over Ontario. Then they went into bankruptcy protection and sold out as franchises some stores. But that didn't work. Then they went back to just having a couple in your area. But I had heard that these closed, guess not.
Heehee hard to keep track!

I would really like to check it out. It sounds good but I never go to Markham. I wish there was a closer one. I like to compare prices before I buy something and I'm always willing to add another store to the list!! icon_lol.gif I like having plenty of options.

Where in TO is Golda's Kitchen? I checked out the website and the prices are OK but the delivery charges make it quite excessive. If I can hitch a ride to TO and pick stuff up in person, however...

Edit: Never mind... I just checked their website (like I should have anyway) and see that it's in Mississauga, by Hwy 10 and Matheson.

Hey there Cake4you,
I did a search for White Rose again and from what I understand it's at Highway 7 and Warden.

This is the link for it. I'm not sure if it's still open but it gives you a phone number so I would call before I go just in case. Please let us know how it goes.

Take Care

Daniela,
the Markham store is at Hwy7 just off the 404.
Oh, and 401 and Whites Rd is actually Pickering (I think), not Scarborough.
The Scarborough location of White Rose was on Kennedy Rd, a looooong time ago.
The other one would have been in East York at O'Connor Drive.

But, they're all gone now. icon_cry.gif
