My friend in Dallas was called out to that bus fire. She said it was awful. I wont get into details because its just to horrible to repeat what she saw. The insanity continues here. Most of our gas stations are out of gas. No batteries for bottled water to be found. They are finally talking about our area on the weather channel. Doesnt look good!!!! OUr temp is in the 80's as well.

Thanks Janice for asking about us. We have decided to stay in Houston. We are cooking some chicken and ribs today. We have bagged up lots of ice and have filled up many containers of water. My prayers go out to all of you that are in the areas that could be affected by this storm.

That bus accident was just horrible!!!

I am close to San Antonio.. and it is crazy here as well. Everyone is coming here or atleast through here to get out of the way of Rita. Traffic has doubled and everywhere you look, you see some desperate soul on the side of the road. I am praying for everyone out there. I have family in Lafayette and Opelousas, I am praying for them and all of you. Those of you that have decided to ride this one out (my family included), you are much stronger people than I. I think I would have running for the hills.

I will pray consistantly for each and every one of you. Please remember God is with us all.

The weather is starting to change here now. I have noticed the wind picking up and the sky is getting grey. The last news report I heard that the storm has shifted back towards Galveston. Thanks to all those that have shown their concerns. icon_razz.gif

Thanks, TC - I slept OK, just wish the kiddo had slept in a bit. I could have used another hour or 2. Felt much better when I woke up, though. Saw that Rita has weakened even more, and now she's down to a 3, which gives me some hope that it may not make it as far inland, or at least with much less force. It may even downgrade to a 2 before it hits. We can only hope. Port Arthur could be completely underwater, but it looks as if Houston will be spared the worst of it. I sure feel for you guys in LA, though. I was running on the treadmill at the gym today and saw about the bus in Dallas. It took my breath away and I had to stop. What an awful thing to happen!

We also have had sweltering unbearable heat for about 10 days, record breaking yesterday, and even though it will reach the 90's today, it was still a gorgeous 88 degrees at noon today, so it was really nice being outside with DD. Looks like it might have been that nasty heat that is breaking this storm down.

Chins up, everybody! This'll hurt a bit, but not nearly as much as we thought! I guess all our prayers helped. icon_smile.gif

When is this going to end??? I'm all the way up here in Canada but my stomach turns everytime I hear the news. I'm so sorry to everyone who's going through this horrible ordeal!!!! God bless

The eye of hurricane Rita is suppose to make landfall about an hour west of me...we are on the east side which if you know anything about hurricanes, isn't the side of the storm you want to be on... if it turns any at all, we will be right in the eye of the storm.. I have my daughter-in-law and her family with us. My daughter and her 2 children are also here with us... other family members have all left for Arkansas and areas north of here.. I'm not in any area that floods, but with as much rain we're expecting, many, many homes will flood .. some areas are expecting 20+ inches of rain .. the tidal surge and outter bands of Rita have already broken 3 levies in New Orleans... the areas previously flooded before have now flooded again and they're no where in the area of the hurricane that we will be in .. I still have power, but I don't think we'll keep it much longer.. the electricity has been flickering on and off many times this morning/afternoon ... we have plenty of water and food so we'll be fine in that area.. my only concern is that I live under many, many live oak trees .. I pray the wind doesn't topple trees over onto my house.. my daugher-in-law raises Yorkies and had to evacuate all of them in kennels here .. they're all over my back porch area and we will have to move them if the winds get too strong .. things don't look real good for us here .. pray it doesn't move any more to the right than it's current path .. landfall is expected late this evening or early morning areas on Saturday... PRAY FOR US!!!!

Just about all the stores have closed here, even Wal-Mart and there was already some attempted looting at Wal-mart...police got the folks before they were able to get in the Wal-Mart....it's just crazy here. I work at at vet's office and no only is the long lines in the car hard on the adults and children, it's really freaking out the pets! We are loaded with as many supplies as we could get.....had to bake my own bread since we couldn't find any, guess there are perks to being able to bake! LOL We just have to sit and wait now. I'm praying for all those still on the road and all those who couldn't get out.

the storm is heading more NW again towrds Galv. but it is going so slow and it is so big it is not making a difference. The wind has picked up here and you can feel an eerie calm. We had family here but they started sayin on our news that they were evacuating the mobile homes and our family left. they said it was probably safer where they are from and they wanted us to go with them. we didnt go because my DH feels it would be safer to stay put than to get on the road. cheryl and traci we are prayin for you and everyone else that is still stuck on the freeway.

Lord, Be with us and keep us and our families and properties safe from this storm. We leave all our worries in your hands and we know you will keep us safe till the storm passes. In Jesus' name we pray in unison, Amen.

I will be back on later when there is more news. Be safe everyone.

Thought I'd check in again too. We've had high winds here all day & the temp has stayed low. I went out last night & only got $25 of gas because the lines were so long, so I went out again today to fill the rest of the van up. I went to Barksdale AFB, where my DH works to get water, batteries, oil for lamps. There was none! Went out to Brookshires none! The mayor of Bossier is telling us to get enough supplies for 3 to 4 days but where are we going to get it. I have drawn water into everything I have with a lid just to be on the safe side.

It is raining now with dark cloudy skies, but the winds are died down a lot. WE haven't seen rain since July!!!! I can't believe that this storm is already effecting us way up her in NNW La. Weird!

Everyone keeps saying that Rita might hit here, it might turn there... well this is how I feel about it... not trying to be discouraging... Rita is over 300 miles wide.. (maybe larger). It's going to hit most of La. coast & TX coast.

Everyone BE SAFE!!! Thanks for that prayer Carla, that's what I've been praying for days! When 2 or more pray the same thing then God will hear!!! Thanks!

I feel the same way you do TC, this storm is massive and it's going to cause damage in a HUGE area......our main concern here in Lufkin is flooding.....people have already been sand bagging thier homes......we personally are on higher ground but we have 80 year old hard wood trees covering our entire property, so trees coming down on the house is a big concern for our family. I'm praying for everyone, especially those in the path of the eye of the storm!

Well the storm was not as harsh as predicated. There are some power outages and some down trees but so far the only deaths are the bus that caught fire close to dallas. It did not even rain here. We had some strong wind but so far that is all. They are saying we can still get some bad rain but as far as right now, nothing. Everyone else keep in contact so we know how you are on your side of Texas.

In my area of Houston...we have been so blessed. We had a minimal amount of rain so far. We had a tree that blew down...but no major damage. I am very worried about Cheryl(ntertaynme)...she is in Lake Charles and it looks like they had major destruction. I hope all that endured any of this are doing ok.
