I decided to have another go at a lily, got some new gumpaste, cutters, wires and formers but i have come to the conclusion that i dont like wired flowers, dont know what im doing wrong but the wires are showing through, ive tried rolling not so thin and am using a veining board and its still doing it

AHere you are Kuuushi

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0018BOXWQ/?tag=cakecentral-20+extruder

Oh dear Tiddy, they can be frustrating can't they. I actually don't use a veining board for my flowers, the method I was taught in my classes was to 'twiddle' (technical term lol) a bit of paste onto the end of the wire, so that it just encases the wire to the length of the petal. You need to keep it pretty thin, but enough so when you press it onto the petal it sticks. Hard to describe in writing though, sorry :/ Daft question but what colour wire and paste are you using? I think to a certain extent you will see 'something' where the wire will be?

AKuuushi, I might be too late but you can create a page without having a personal profile if you'd prefer. You would need to e-mail the link to friends to get the start of spreading it around started but if you have no personal profile atm its not like you have a friend base already on Fb to use so it shouldn't make much difference. I can message you instructions on how to do it if you would prefer not to have a personal profile on there

AThanks Mel, does it come from the states? If so how long did yours take to come?

Tiddy, I twiddle too! Usually I roll a tiny piece of gumpaste. Put the wire in the middle and gradually flatten. Not so much that the wire comes through though!

AOk, just checked my notes and I use a 24g green for the main pistal, and 26g white for the petals so that might be why you are seeing them slightly if you are using 24g for the petals?

Hello everyone. Need a big hug, my friend is in hospital with a brain bleed. She is still unconscious and I'm waiting for her hubby to tell me when I can go there. I'm in shock.

Sorry needed to tell someone, I'm sitting here not knowing what to do or how to feel as I don't know how serious it is. I am determined to think positive about it and that she will come through ok...

The last 2 years I prebaked and covered in anticipation ha ha! he's always happy to pay a rush fee tho :)

hope everyone is well :) I have to do some work now (boo) and get designing cakes too - the orders are coming in thick and fast after a veritable famine for some reason!

Gray, I got feedback (first time ever from any customer unprompted) from the John (guy who ordered). Said his gf loved it.

AROFL Gray, now that would make a *very* interesting Frozen cake  Nice to see you though, look forward to seeing your next cakey creations whenever they may be! Fab customer service too preempting last minute order guy!

Good idea to keep busy Jean, hope you you hear something soon x

I was meant to be going out this morning but got completely side tracked ordering DHs birthday prezzies and the cigarillos for his birthday cake! Thanks for the tip to check all their stores Maisie, they were a few £ cheaper on the actual website than on Amazon/eBay etc. I ordered a large box so should have enough for next week, plus more for [S]eating[/S] experimenting with......!

Petitecat big hugs , I hope you hear something soon and everything is ok with your friend xx

Mel your lilies are lovely I have had the cutters to make them for a while but have yet to try, so when you twiddle does that mean the wire doesn't got into the petal itself but is stuck on the back or I have I got that completely wrong?

Kuuushi sorry a bit late if you've already ordered I got a green extruder off ebay a few weeks ago for £8.50 it's not branded but works great.

Jean - so sorry to hear about your friend. We are all sending positive thoughts. Keep busy, it will help. xx

Extruder: I had the red and black but like Mel I moved to the green Makins one. Mix plenty of trex into your paste and it is much easier on the hands.
