I make a real living being a hair stylist for 40yrs. I have my own salon, and never had hired help. I'm presently working part time and soon to retire. We are building a home at Myrtle Beach S.C. Can't wait. I could never make a living decorating cakes, too slow and not that talented..But love the hobby.

I am the Department Head of English and Modern Languages (German and French) at the high school where I work. I teach English full time to students in grades 9-12 (mostly 12). I have a daughter who is almost two and my four-year-old "fur baby."

Due to marking, lesson prepping, and headship responsibilities, added to my favourite "job" - parenting - I only have time to make cakes for family, friends, and co-workers. They are an appreciative audience, though!

Full-time Mommy and visual artist by trade (sculptor). As any SAHM knows, there isn't much free time so I do all my baking and art making LATE at night when both Hubby and 3yr old daughter are asleep. ~ Contrary to popular belief, we SAHMs don't sit on our butts and watch TV all day... atleast I don't. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being home with my daughter !!! So many adventures.

I mostly do cakes for husband's office and friends/family. I really started this so my daughter could have cool "vegan" decorated cakes like other kids (not feel left out, etc.) ~ and it's a way to bring in extra cash while I'm home with my "baby bumblebee". icon_smile.gif

~ If you could only bottle their youth... icon_rolleyes.gif I'd call the frangrance "Essence of toddler" icon_lol.gif

Wow! This is a cool and informative thread! LOVE IT!

Let's see, in the past I worked in the commercial policy department for a big insurance company. Then, I handled the domestic and international distibution for a well known child safety product company. But, I never really enjoyed working for "The Man"...entrepreneurial blood runs through my Viking veins thanks to my Swedish grandpa! haha!

Once I got married in '96, I worked for a few more years, then started having babies in '99. I now have a DS (icon_cool.gif, and two DD's (6&3).

Was always creative and hands-on, but never guessed that path would be the one I'd end up on at age 40 by decorating cakes. (But then again, I never thought I'd be potty-training someone when I was 40 either! lol!)

I've been a SAHM for almost 9 years now, and have three kids. I'm also wife to a wonderful man, cake decorating business owner, "Master Schedule Juggler", and head of the PTO group for my daughter's school. Aaah. I'm most importantly a happy and independent woman! All of this makes up my 'real job".

I am the Office Manager in a natural foods grocery store. I work 8+ hours a day with a 2 hour drive time. I have 2 grown daughters that don't live a home anymore. All I have time for are late nights and weekends for cakes. Love my job, but love doing cakes too! Wishing I had more time to give each cake to improve them.

I would rather just do cakes but for now I guess I get the best of all worlds. I am here with my kids I work at home and I can do cakes lol..... oh and I have been doing this for 3 years now, I was a stay at home mom for 4 years before that.

Hi Everyone! I was a registered dental assistant, then I became a realtor, and now I have the best job of all as a domestic engineer/SAHM. I bake and decorate for fun. My husband is a pretty accomplished musician. That's pretty much how the bills get paid.

I was in the IT field (1st as a programmer analyst and then switched to network engineering) until my 1st son was born at which time I became a SAHM. I now am the mother of 4 beautiful children (ages 6, 4, 2 and almost 10 months). I started homeschooling my oldest last year and loved it and will continue to do this with all of my children. Taking care of my DH of 11 1/2 years my 4 human babies and my 2 dogs is a triple X job. I'm happy if I can get anytime at all to decorate cakes!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

This thread was a great idea, I've loved getting to know everyone!

I'm a Trust Officer at bank. I love being in the kitchen cooking and baking. I received my Pastry Certificate from the Texas Culinary Academy in 2006. I also continue taking cake decorating classes and culinary classes that interest me. I do cakes part-time and my baking/decorating in the evenings or weekends (This, of course, as the family's schedule allows.) Mainly, this is a hobby that allows me to make my daughter (9yrs) and son's (6yrs) birthdays special.

I stay home with my kids (ages16, 13, 11, 3 and 2). I work from home full time for Balfour-the class ring company. I also sell Mary Kay and I just started baking cakes to sell. I pretty much just bake whenever I have an order-I usually bake it the morning before they need it and then decorate it that night.

I work full time as a Costume Shop Manager. I've been doing that for over 8 years now and I love it. I also sometimes sell books online and also run a theatre-themed gifts website.

We have 3 boys (all under 4) and my DH watches them when I have a cake to do, and nana and papa watch them during the day. My second son loves to cook and bake so I have to let him "help" with things like the dishes etc.

Besides making cakes? During wedding season, when not working on orders or something to do with orders, I stare into space, in the dark, with very strong tequila.

During the non busy season, I clean my house, go the beach, and rediscover my friends who think I don't like them anymore. I have this painting of a fractrured sunset that one of these days I will finish. (been working on it for three years..hahaha)
