In light of things that have happened to people here on CC , I thought it would be helpful to have these scam artists names all in one place, so I decided to start a post. If you are unsure of what I am talking about, here are some links....

My first experience with this was just last month and it wasn't cake related. I got an email from (supposedly) Paypal. Exact duplication of their logo etc. Saying they had noticed some outside the country attempts to gain access to my Paypal account. Reply to this email by clicking on this link to verify your Paypal information, if we do not hear back from you within 72 hours, unfortunately we will have to freeze your Paypal account. I clicked on the link fully believing it was from Paypal. Until they ask you to verify your account with the following information
Name
Address
Telephone Number
Credit Card Number and Expiration date
date of birth
And the ones that finally set off an alarm in my head
Your ATM Password and Paypal Password
I didn't fill out the information, clicked off, copied the email and pasted it to an email to the Paypal address on their official website. Also called my bank. There had been no activity at the bank but they put a red flag on my checking account to watch for any unusual transactions. Heard back from Paypal immediately. They had not sent the email and they would investigate. I changed my password on Paypal as well. From now on I will be smarter and if I ever receive anything like this again I will not ever click on the link they send. I will contact Paypal instantly. There has been no unusual activity on my Paypal account either, but if I had been naive enough to complete that information form that would have had access to all of my credit and bank information. Scary stuff this identity theft scam.
I just got the same thing from Beatrice. new it was fake because of some similar stuff I was getting regarding real estate, etc.
Also got the pay pal thing recently and sent it to them right away as spam (fraud).
Great idea to post here!! Thanks
Great idea for a post! I also have received the paypal e-mail. TWICE. Fortunately, the red flag went up when they wanted me to enter personal info after I clicked on the link. I contacted paypal and they had me forward them the e-mail which they confirmed was fraudulant. I have been very lucky that both times that was the end of the problem (no money lost or identity theft).
I also got paypal one. No problem though since I DO NOT have a paypal account. Since it came across, the local news station here came out with an article on the news announcing it from Pay Pal as a scam.

I worked at a bank and people also get phone calls with the same content. Banks and Credit Card Comapnies WILL NEVER ask you for this kind of information. Please be carefule online and on the phone. So many elderly people have given out there bank account numbers and routing number and within minutes funds have been missing from their accounts. If you don't initiate the call or email NEVER give out ANY personal information.
If I get a "paypal" email like that I always go to Paypal's site in a separate internet window. You can always forward those email to Paypal's spoof email address. I got one once and the stupid idiot didn't even make an attempt to make his fake from email address look like anything even close to something coming from paypal. Anyone can copy and paste pictures into an email to make it look real, even when it isn't.
Thanks so much for posting the info about Beatrice! I got the same email from 'her' yesterday, before I had a chance to see this. I did respond to the email, asking for more information. Now I will know how to address it if I get anything back. I'm sure glad I didn't put too much time into it.
My first thought after reading the other threads was that maybe the info had been phished from here, but then I realized that I got the email using my cake website email account, which I've never posted or used here- exactly for this reason. So, I think CC is not the source of the info, in case any of you were worried about that.

I have mine posted on many of those sites.

Thanks for the info. I have received MANY Paypal scams. Here is a BIG CLUE. Paypal will address you by your username or your order name. My scams were always addressed to Dear Paypal Account Holder....YEAH RIGHT! Sent it right to [email protected].!!
Beth in KY
We have never replied to any paypal alert, however someone still hacked into our account and "sold" things under our name and didn't deliver.... of course. and Ebay is still hounding us for fees we were supposed to pay on stuff we didn't sell in New Zealand.
So, be careful in all your transactions... they can still come back to bite you!
The paypal scam is bad here in the UK too. We frequently get emails, and I even had emails off two different ebayers who had apparently sold me something....which I never did.........and were still waiting for the paypal payment. I had alarm bells going off when they sent me an invoice for an item that I never ordered and asked for payment. Unfortunately, ebay never believed me and I ended up with a strike against me. I did actually manage to convince the ebayer because he had apparently sent me lots of emails back and forth querying quantities colour, style etc and it was only when he sent the invoice that it came to me and not the person he had been emailing..........scary!!
This is a copy of the email some of us have received:

The paypal scam is called phishing.
Phishing is a form of Internet fraud that aims to steal valuable information such as credit cards, social security numbers, user IDs and passwords. A fake website is created that is similar to that of a legitimate organisation, typically a financial institution such as a bank or insurance company. An email is sent requesting that the recipient access the fake website (which will usually be a replica of a trusted site) and enter their personal details, including security access codes. ..."
If you get a email warning you of a problem with your account- I have gotten one from my bank, verizon and papal, don't click on any of the links. Copy the entire email. Go to the supposed source and send the copy to them. They will try to stop the criminals.
I got an email last summer from (supposedly) "Amazon.com" saying there had been some suspicious activity on my account and they needed to confirm my identity with two other forms of identification (yeah right!)
I was suspicious so I immediately phoned Amazon at their customer service number and they told me it not only wasn't from them, but they wanted me to forward the scam email to them so they could investigate it further. The scary thing was that it looked "official." But then, that's the point, isn't it?
We had to give up having a user id on Ebay (with paypal) as supposedly we sold several cameras (never sold anything on ebay in my life) it was a real pain to get it straightened out so now we just never buy anything off ebay.
Anybody else wonder about all the Charity requests that come over the phone? I always ask people to mail me information on the given charity so I can validate who they are and decide if I want to give, and so many callers refuse to mail out any information....they want you to make the donation over the phone right that minute.....always makes me leary.
Thanks from sharing all the info - my husband and I had some of our identity stolen. We had NO idea until a bill came with all this stuff bought. We had theft coverage on the credit card so we were OK but still scary just the same. We have a credit card now with a 500 dollar limit used only for on-line use. There also has to be voice confirmation to be used.
Thanks again!

My BF's daughter worked for a telemarketing company in Oklahoma City and she told me to NEVER agree to donating to a charity over the phone. She said they collected for every organization imaginable and of the donations, the telemarketing company kept 85% and gave the charity 15%. I saw several pictures of her boss and employees out partying. Trust me. He had enough bling bling on to challenge Fort Knox on who had the most gold. Totally a scam. I am now on the no call list and refuse to donate to any charities other than the ones in my community.

The same happened to my DH(then boyfriend) and myself. It happened at a Home Depot He went in on a Sat to aply for a cc so we could remodel our house. We went the next day so I applied too. He was approved for $2500 on that Sat but didn't buy anything so on Sun when I applied he was shopping for stuff and went to pay and the card was declined. We had to go to the Customer Service and they called their credit dept and the lady said that the card was used at another home depot several towns south of us the same night he applied for $9000. Which should have been the first clue if his limit was $2500 how could he charge $9000? Then we both starting getting cell phone bills and CC bills that weren't ours. We knew it start at H.D. because other than living together we never had an account together we weren't married and how do two people who live in the same house get their identity stolen at the same time and have all the same bills?
At that was just the first time. Two years ago my DH had his identity stolen when we were purchasing our home and his info was sent to the mortgage company in Miami and the girl that stole his info got a CC in her name and his name
How stupid is that.
To this day I have the wrong previous address on my credit report. For that reason I have a $500 CC for online purchases. I trust NO ONE with my info. It's such a PIA to get identity theft cleared up.
Here is another name and what they sent me. Do not click on any of this information..... Both of them have the email address....

I have had the Pay Pal thing happen numerous times. The last scam was someone on E-Bay bought an ornament I was selling with Buy It Now. I got an E-mail from them saying to claim my cash from Pay Pal to click on the link in their e-mail..... I didn't do it. They inquired about why the item still showed unclaimed and I said I had not heard from Pay Pal yet. I then heard from them saying they had bought the item from someone who responded sooner. I put in a claim to fraud but .... I couldn't claim them as non-paying bidder because they would go after them for the money and I relisted and sold it. So I will probalby be out the listing and value fee. I, however, did not click on the link to my pay pal acct in their e-mail!
My in-laws are really funny about the pay-pal emails they sometimes get. They have issues about using their JCPenney card online (we've tried explaining that the number still ends up on a computer when they call in an order) so they don't have a pay-pal account and they really freaked when they got the first email.
My MIL still has a fit everytime they get one because no matter how often we explain that it's a scam she thinks someone opened an account in their name. ![]()
I've been getting some silly mail too....although I have no record of it now for those who know my husband killed my computer lately! Not getting into that story again! Anyway, I did reply to the one from Beatrice too but heard no more. I decided to block any more mail from that source when I had more thoughts about it. The mail was too demanding to be a real customer.....at least I came to that conclusion! I still get a lot of rubbish on a daily basis. It's annoying but I try to block as many as I can.
WOW! I have received emails from different people from other countries asking that I cash a check for them because they are in fear and are trying to leave their country! They put God all over it, they ask that God put it in my heart to help them out!! Can you believe that!!
I am an Arbonne representative and a few months ago, several representative were targeted with huge, thousand dollar orders, only to find out that it was fraud!
I always block those creepy emails. I need to start checking my credit file more often!
