This is why you have to be so careful when you make passwords.
I have been a stay at home mom for 4 years and before I left we were starting a new regime where we had to change our passwords every 30 days and you could not repeat it for 30 months.
But there is a reason we needed to do this.
You had to use letter and numbers and caps and special Characters.
Ex: bGt5^Yhn now that looks like pretty good password right. But can you tell what patern I used???
this is a better password: B4{s9` for at least 6 characters and they are in no way shape of form a word or partern of any kind.
...
Still thinking about that partern....
well
Start with B and go up on you keyboard, when you reach the top, go right and then back down.
People are producing programs that will use different paterns and all kinds of words just to figure out your password. It's pretty scary!
There are drawbacks to this, you need to keep your password somewhere. We write our and hide them, so if we need to we will find it again!
The other thing to keep in mind is to make sure you close down your computer when you are done. Especially if you are using a public computer anywhere. We do this at home, just because we have 2 small boys and we dont want them getting on our id's and doing stuff we dont have limitations on our id's. Our sons can get on to the computer with their id's and they can only go to a few kids websites to play games and do homework. If they could get on to ours who knows what they could do.
A friend of our's son changes his and his dads access so he he download music, very innocent and all, but it messed up their computer. Twice, my husband has helped them now to clean up the PC and now he cannot get in, unless he has the special admin password!
Ps: Janette thanks for that carjack update, people can look so innocent, I saw some kid who looked like he was having trouble in front of a daycare house a few weeks ago, I got on the phone and called the police, I am 8 months pregnant and was not going to stop by myself. The police called right back once they got there, they got more details from me and took care of it. This was all innocent but who knows you never know these days what could happen and what scams people will think of to get something.
So be carefull out there.
Good Luck
I know you must have felt awful not helping the child, but you did the right thing.
We live in a different world.
I'm afriad to speak to a child I don't know. Children hear so much they can make up stories.
My husband especially will not talk to a child.

Same here, you never know what kids will say or do, my husband will only ever stay home alone with our children and some of their friends as long as they are all boys.
It's sad that we live in such crazy times that men have to worry about who they are taking care of. It's insane a little off topic sorry. But still in the bad people dept.
Stay Safe
Good Luck
i have gotten the paypal one as well. The lastest one though is a fake from Wacovia Bank asking to click on link and update your account info and some other nonsense. I don't even have an account with these people, which is what tipped me off.
Then there are those who no matter how many times they hear about these scams they still fall for them.
This is why the scam artists continue, it's those few fools that make it worth the effort to continue to try and scam others.
It's a very sorry world that we live in.

You are absolutely correct. A few people will fall hard and these guys make out like bandits.
When I get stuff that is not from a bank that I bank with. I make 1 attempt at finding a proper website and looking for the spam or spoof e-mail address, if I find it right away I will forward the e-mail if I cannot find it right away I just delete the original e-mail.
I might be going the extra step here, but these guys anoy me so much I wish there was a way to have them get caugh and procecuted.
Ok I digress.
Be Safe, Good Luck
K if any of you guys get any more of those emails here is the email address to report them to the feds as spam. No you won't get back any replies but it does put it on record for investigation. Here is the addy: [email protected]
That is the spam reporting address for the FTC. You can forward all suspicious mail that asks for or concerns money to them.
I get those all the time from paypal and credit cards etc. all the time. I too do not click on any links in any email like that they usually end up in the spam bank. I will go n check out the website but from an addy set in my bookmarks. Or hand typing it into the url window.
My husband just got an email from ebay saying that someone had posted some things for sale under his name but it came from a 3rd party. They closed it down right away and suspended his account. He then had to go in and change a bunch of things to get back on.
I have had emails from so called banks saying something was wrong with my account and click this to verify info. Of course I didn't have an account there so I just forwarded it to the bank in question.
I also had a email from a so called seller on ebay saying that I had a chance to buy this rug I bid on since the last one backed out. Fortunately for me I had bought 5 rugs from this certain seller and knew it was not from him. Also the rug was still listed and had several days left to go on it. So then I get another email on the same rug from a totally different person. I forwarded them to ebay ...and let the real seller know what was going on.
too bad these people don't work a legitimate job....

Chaptlps thanks for that link. I am adding right now.
The ebay 3rd party thing seems to be one of the latest thing to do too. Man these bad guys must sit around just thinking up of scams... they obviously have way too much time on their hands. ![]()
Good Luck
I'm debating if I should close my E-Bay account.
I don't use it that much and I don't want to deal with being involved in a scam.
I will take the time to forward those e-mails to the gov address - thanks.
With the new USPS shipping rate hikes and this latest racket on ebay accounts I am thinking of doing the same thing. The shipping has become so expensive I am using my ebay account less and less all the time. There are a couple of sellers I would need to contact for purchasing items outside ebay because I shop with them from time to time on ebay for cake decorating items. Ebay has seen its peak days IMO.
