The 21st birthday cake is one of my favorite cakes that I've made so far. That one, the penguin cake, and a st. patty's day cake that I made a while ago all tie for 1st place I think. icon_smile.gif

I did this cake for my stepmother's 50th birthday. It's a replica of a whiskey barrel she has in her front yard. She also loves hummingbirds, so I made a color flow hummingbird for her. She really liked it and I was pretty proud of myself. icon_smile.gif

I was soo excited by how this cake turned out (lumpy fondant notwithstanding), especially the gumpaste babies, so I had hoped for more views. Although there were like 60 people at the party so it already got a lot of views and comments icon_biggrin.gif. I should have asked them all to put it in writing LOL icon_lol.gificon_razz.gif

OK I HAVE to add this one - it's not mine but I just noticed it in the Food gallery today. Sooo cute, she made cake balls into little fried chicken drumettes. Clever! Only 56 views; this adorable idea deserves more IMHO. icon_smile.gif http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1246283

Here are the ones in my gallery that I feel didn't get enough notice:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1228310

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1200098

and this isn't a cake, but some figures made from candy clay:
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1052953

Sorry to have listed three but they each got less than nine comments even though they were viewed 175 times or more and I really thought they came out well. I remember how excited I was to post them and how disappointed I was after a few months had passed.

I love going to Renaissance faires, and all the fancy dresses. I can't afford to make a ton of costumes though, so I thought I'd try to make them out of cake. Any advice on how to cover the cake? I had a hard time. Or how to do the long, heavy sleeves any better? Or any suggestions for the head dress? The fondant ring kept streaching as I tried to apply it to her head. Any and all advice would be appericated. Thanks

I have been up at the cottage all summer with all my cake stuff...toys at home... I had my husband bring a few thing up for me to work with....

So this is a cottage... no tool (really) cake and I LOVED the way it turned out.

To All Undernoticed I salute you!!!!

I can't offer any advice for covering the cake, but as for the sleeves and headdress, you might want to try gumpaste, or 50/50 fondant/gumpaste, if straight fondant is giving you grief...HTH!

I just posted this one yesterday and honestly, expected at least some people to like it. So far, it has one comment and no favorites. I think it is a striking beautiful cake. Everyone who has seen it in person has been in awe. Oh well, I guess you can never tell.

P.S. I tried and tried to add a second attachment (top view), but it just won't pull it up. I hope it doesn't show up five times! icon_redface.gif

Many times I have seen waaaaaaaay better cakes that only have like 1 or two favorites.

Does this cross anyones mind also?

I have wondered too. I haven't taken many pics, or done anything very elborate, but I do ask my computer lots of those "Why that one?" questions. (Mainly because no one else listens!!)

I find it frustrating also, I just posted a few new photos of cakes I delivered yesterday and they stayed in new photos for all of 5 min no joke. I know my cakes arent the best as Im still learning but I would still like people to see them and tell me what I can do to improve. Paddlegirl I completely agree I think all the cakes on here are fab some more so than others obviously but the creativity I see amazes me. I spend a lot of time looking at the photos and commenting on the ones that shout at me too, but I dont understand how come some have loads of faves when Others that are amazing go pretty much unnoticed. Is there a way to look at the recent photos added rather than just the new photo thread on the front page. I would love for people to comment but If they don't see them on the front page I dont know what to do.
