Saw this today and though it was good:

"If hunger isn't the problem then eating isn't the solution."

I have to start wrapping my head around the fact that weight loss is not easy for me anymore. I don't want to get myself discouraged when the pounds don't drop quickly. I felt a little discouraged this morning when it didnt seem like the scale was budging much since I weighed in on Friday, especially since I have been on track. I decided that i need to remind myself that slow and steady is success.

I've been having the same thoughts, Merissa!

I have again taken wheat out of my diet this week, as I still think I may be intolerant to either wheat or gluten, so I'm very limited in what I can eat, as I'm also off dairy. This is my 3rd day, and I'm starting to feel like I need something to fill me up properly. I'm living on rice cakes, rice crackers, and fruit/vegetables.

Sonia, are you getting meats? There are also some other types of grains you could use, I don't know if you have a Food Channel or something like it in Australia but here I am seeing a rise in grains like quinoa and others that I cannot remember. Check out the Food Network on the internet. I am also sure that there is some good information about wheat/gluten intolerance on the internet. Check out seliac (the name for the disease) maybe you can come up with some good diet ideas.

If you are living on rice cakes, it is no wonder you are feeling deprived, the thins are like cardboard. What about nuts? They are very good for you in moderation. If you have any natural food stores like we have here check to see if they have any alternate grains you can eat. Over all, don't starve yourself, you will just feel more and more deprived and end up ruining your diet completely.

I weighed myself today for the first time in three weeks (maybe more) and I am up 1.2 pounds. I guess I am in a rut now where I am going to stay put. Remember, I lost several sizes before I lost those 20 pounds, and it took me two years of walking for the scale to budge significantly. I am not at all sure that I want to lose any more sizes, maybe down to a 4. I just need to get some new clothes that will make me look decent. Not easy since I am not making as mjuch money anymore. I am down to four days a week now, but at leasy I am going to bve making enough to cover the bills now.

Talk too you all later. Don't get discouraged!

Thanks Karen. I'm vegetarian, which limits me even more! (I have nothing against meat, just can't stand the thought of eating something that could have been looking at me yesterday, I'm a softie!!!) I have been having a few nuts, I guess I should make more of an effort to eat them, they will probably help.

Sorry, Sonia, I misspelled it. It is Celiac. I hope you can find something that will be helpful to you. If I think of any more ideas, I'll let you know.

Hi y'all!

Well the bad news is that I didn't loose any weight this week despite staying on track with my weight watchers points. Oh well. This is the point at which I start getting discouraged and disappointed. But I am not going to let it stop me this time. I am going to keep working at it because I somehow feel thinner in my mind LOL. Weight Watchers hasnt been difficult for me either...so that helps.

yeah, huh...sonia. What else can you eat?!?! Have you been to a doctor about what you are intolerent to, or have you been just keeping a record of what foods make you feel badly? I can say that I discovered that I really like those quaker rice cake snacks (like the BBQ) but I still can only have like 10 (they are small) because it is 2 points (I get 24 per day). I could eat the whole bag otherwise.

I'm down another .8 this morning, so it adds up to 8.3 altogether over the last 5 weeks. This is the best I've done in AGES!!

Sorry you haven't had any progress this week, Merissa, but don't give up, you're doing great!!!

Yes, I've been to a doctor earlier this year, only to be told that very few people genuinely have intolerances. I had been falling asleep all the time. I'd sleep all night, then get up and get my kids off to school and fall asleep again until about lunch time and it was happening every day. The doctor told me it was only because I'm a mother!! So I read up on intolerances at this site www.foodintol.com and did my own elimination diet. Once I went off dairy I was able to stay awake. If I cheat and have a glass of milk, I spend the whole next day asleep, so I've learnt my lesson! It's amazing how many issues are linked to intolerances. The main reason I'm going off wheat is I'm having joint pain. I've had x-rays, and a bone scan, and they say there's nothing wrong with me. I've had someone else tell me that if they eat gluten they get a lot of pain in their joints, so that's why I'm now experimenting with that. (Sorry to be so long-winded)

By the way, I cooked myself eggs last night, and that was quite filling! (good protein substitute, too!)

Thanks...I am not giving up! I am still plugging along and I am going to try and get back into my exercise more regularly now.

Sonia, I think only you know your body best! Even if it is true that only few people have intolerences did he actually test you for anything? You could easily be one of them.

I know there was a time that I was getting really sleepy in the afternoon, like I hit a wall or something at 4 pm. For me it was too many carbs...like sugar..probably from eating cake! LOL. When I start to feel sleepy in the afternoon I am pretty sure it is from eating poorly. Doing the weight watchers they have this thing called "recipe builder." You put in all the ingredients and how many it should serve and it comes up with a points value. ANYWAY I decided to put in my cake and SMBC recipes...holy moly. a slice of cake and icing would be around 12 points (remember I get 24 in one day....) THAT IS A LOT. Knowledge is power!!

Did anyone watch the biggest loser last week? OMgosh...the lady goes into the hospital after racing/walking one mile! She wasn't even THAT big (as compared to the other contestants!) That is really, really sad.

Hey, Merissa and Sonia!

Glad to hear things are going well. Eggs are a great form of protein, as are beans. You can eat quite a large amount for few calories. They are also filling.

I am still fluctuating between a couple pounds, back and forth. It is slow enough at work that I can now have my snacks again. Maybe I can get down a few more pounds. Next week the one girl is on vacation so I am working five days instead of the four that I have been working.

Keep up the goodwork and don't give up! Talk to you later.

Well... I still haven't gotten off my ass however have hit my breaking point. I think I've got my baking projects out of my system for a little while (at least eating them). I feel like crap after eating a piece of the spiced pumpkin cake I made tonight. So I've decided I'm going to try again. I think I have about 50lbs to lose - I have NO idea where the scale went after we moved into the new house. A bonus though is that it's my favorite time of year; so I am just going to focus on starting out slow and pray to god I can get it together this time. I'm not sure why it's getting so difficult - losing weight a few years ago seemed SO much easier... icon_redface.gif

Cakie,

Good to see you again.

Losing weight does seem to get harder as time goes on. I finally started losing weight when I got rid of my car in Pittsburgh three years ago. Actually, I started losing sizes first and it took me until I moved down here to Florida for the actual pounds to come off. I am now down to a size 4 from a 14 and from 160 I am now at 143. Weigh in tomorrow morning again. We'll see how that goes. I am still fluctuating between 141 and 143. I want to get below 140 soon. I'm also looking forward to buying some new clothes that fit me and flatter my body type.

Sonia,

I'm 5'2". I'm considering going for a size 4, maybe. I guess it is just that I was a size 3 up until around 30. I am also worried about gaining any weight. My sisters and mother are all big and have health problems. I really want to be able to be mobile and in good shape into old age.

arg. Well I havent lost weight in 2 weeks! For only being on my diet for 3.5 weeks, I shouldnt be on a plateau already! I am quite sure it isnt that I am not following the diet, and I am quite sure it isnt that I am not carefully documenting what I am eating. I think my body is just stubborn. Statistically I should be losing 2 pounds per week. This stinks. I am frustrated, but not ready to give up. It will never work if I give up.

how is everyone else doing? Better I hope.

yes, I have been...which is why it is frustrating. I did some weights monday then ran a mile. Wednesday and Friday I ran 3 miles both days.

I cheated tonight....but I am okay with it. It's not the start of a downward spiral or anything. I am still set on making it happen.

Congrats on your loss! That is awesome!

So I made a new profile on FitDay.com. This is where I used to track my intake. And I'm in the process of pricing some gear - I need a new exercise ball at home for core strengthening, a bosu ball (ugh so expensive), and a stationary bike. The BF is gone away all week so I'll finally get a head start on cleansing my system and jump starting my metabolism. Tomorrow night I have to go and buy some groceries as I won't have time this evening and work all day tomorrow. Then Tuesday off will be a good day to continue getting organized - I have a ton of stuff to do around the house which will burn some calories (LOL).

I must admit - I'm super stressed out. I find out tomorrow about a really big job offer I've been waiting for a while. I was the chosen one I guess until the last interview and the competition got stiff between me and another candidate. So at this point it could really go either way - so I'm pretty much having a heart attach. It's super stressful. I would be back at my old salary which would be about 6 times what I'm making now...so would be a huge life change for the two of us.

Anyways...going into a new week with a positive attitude...thanks for listening!!!

Right now working retail, just completed two semesters of school (because the economy took a bit of a tank and I left my old position to take a break). My background is in Operations Management with a focus in telecommunications and manufacturing depending on the year. This position would be an amazing package for me and my man; so I'm praying that I get a phone call tomorrow and that it's a positive one. icon_redface.gif Need to get out of the retail thing and back into what I'm really good at, you know?

So they emailed me and asked for references - so I *think* it's good news, but no formal offer yet. I'm dying to hear.

But in other news, I went and picked up the exercise bike yesterday morning. I got a fantastic deal, $40 for a bike that was probably bought for $300. GREAT deal, and now I have it here. Just haven't gotten on for a full workout yet so I'll keep you posted. I did have a successful day yesterday though, my whole lower body is sore today so that's good news! icon_biggrin.gif

And if I haven't said it lately...thanks again for your support ladies... couldn't do it without being able to vent once in a while!

Hi Ladies ~
Your terrible, neglecting friend is back...I'm so sorry, I don't know what's happened to meal to be gone so long. This year has been so much harder than I anticipated but that's no excuse. I'm going to try to be better. I'm sorry!

I hope everyone is well. I can't check in as often as I did when I lived in Italy...I seem to work all the time and many evenings I'm there til past 7...yuck! Despite that, I'm not ready to move so soon again, so I've negotiated a salary for next year and will staying in Houston for at least one more year.

Although it's been a challenge to live with the lapband, I'm overall glad I did it. I think the band is too tight and I need to see about getting some of the fluid taken out because it's often painful to eat. The good news is that I've lost 28 pounds in the last 4 months since I had it, so I'm happy about that.

How is everyone?
