Ouch Connie! So sorry to hear you havent been well. I hear kidney stones are the pits! Hoping you feel much better soon.
Well it's weigh in day for me
I gained a pound....back up to 161. I can tell you though, I am not surprised. I had an off week (well it's probably more like a regular week, but I am working to change that!) Missed ANOTHER workout today because DH had to leave super early today. Plus I ate pizza, lasagna, and licked quite a bit of chocolate buttercream
. (It's so good...have you tried Toba Garrett's chocolate buttercream??) I am still hanging on to the wagon...it's way to early to fall off just yet.
Glad you're still hanging on, Merissa. I haven't had a very good week, either. I hope to get my routine back on track when the kids are back at school next week.
Michelle, I've been trying to attach an article that may be of benefit to you, but it's in Adobe, and I just can't work out how to attach it or copy & paste. I'll ask DH when he's home on the weekend. It's basically stating the fantastic health benefits of cinnamon & honey, how they can reduce your cholesterol, help heart disease, flu, arthritis, and even weight loss!! I read it out to the ladies that attend my craft group, and one lady has been taking it ever since (about 4 weeks now) and she said, she's feeling so much better! It's cleared up her sinuses, which have been blocked for a couple of years, she can feel her leg, which has been numb for a long time, and the pain has gone from her neck. She's been taking a teaspoon of each a day.
I have also heard that taking a teaspoon a day helps with allergies (specifically seasonal I think) It works best if you can purchse honey from a local beehive because the bees are using the area pollens to make the honey.
Thanks again for the well wishes - kidney stones do SUCK but I am SO much better just a lil tender now but that is NOTHING compared to before....
Well, it's offical I no longer have a baby girl (not that she has been a 'baby in a while)... My FIVE year old daughter lost her first tooth last night. It's SO bittersweet, I'm excited but so sad the last 'baby' thing she had is going away! Her dentist when we went about a month ago was SHOCKED she already had a loose tooth - of course she's always does things early.... SO I officially have a snaggle tooth daughter LOL
I have GOT to figure out my workout routing, previously I would do crunches in the am while the kids were getting ready for school, but now I'm juggle a 3 month old and having problems - I'm getting up an hour earlier as it is and I am NOT a morning person so I'm EXHAUSTED by mid day I just don't know how I'm going to do this but I WILL figure out a way I have too! IF I could get him to nap at my house for more than 20 minutes that might work BUT he just won't YET.....
Good morning all
Sonia, that sounds interesting. I would like to read it.
Merissa, HANG ON GIRL, you can do this! Where did you get the recipe for that butter cream? I have an anniversary cake to make in June.
Connie, I am so glad you are feeling much better. I have heard those hurt very badly and (knock on wood) I have not had one yet!
Ok gotta run and do some work. I weigh in tomorrow, hoping to have met my second mini goal, will let you know tomorrow!!!
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Chocolate-Buttercream-109248
I probably shouldnt be posting this recipe on the diet thread LOL! It is really good though! It makes a lot...you can half it if you only have one cake. I reduce the amount of liquer in mine by about half and replace with some heavy cream. My liquer isn't really high quality, maybe if it was I wouldn't reduce it. Also at first it will seem really fluffy and mouss-y. Let it sit for awhile. It will smooth out, but seems fluffy initially.
Um, how do you make the ganache? Or do you buy it?
No, it is super easy. For this recipe (for 2 cups) I use about 8 ounces cream plus about 2 T butter. Bring just to a boil, remove from heat and pour over 12 oz chocolate chips (good chocolate...semi or bittersweet). Let sit for about 2-3 minutes, stir until blended (a whisk works well). for the buttercream, she says for it to be refrigerated to get it nice and firm. Otherwise for fillings etc. just let it cool down until spreadable.
Ohhhhhhhh! All the good recipes seem to have shortening, which you can't get in Tasmania!
Thanks Merissa
I will have to print these out, I think I will use these on that cake, they sound wonderful!!
Well I weighed in and GAINED .6 oz!! I am frustrated, I am watching what I eat and working out twice a day. UUUGGGHHH, just want to scream at the top of my lungs!AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there I feel better, thanks
Have a great day and remember to get up and move.
don't get discouraged Michelle. remember muscle weighs more than fat, so you maybe losing inches and that's better than the lbs. just my 2cents, lol
I still haven't been able to attach the honey & cinnamon info, but if you just google "honey & cinnamon health benefits", heaps of topics come up. It's very interesting!
Alaina, howz that job going????
An update on my elimination diet: I think I have narrowed down my intolerances to milk & yeast. Milk has been making me sleepy (I was falling asleep any time of the day before, now I'm not !
) Yeast was making me feel bloated. Every time I have a slice of bread now, my stomach doubles in size and I have wind. The thought of having to stay off bread is scary, but it's nice to get some answers.
Ohhhhhhhh! All the good recipes seem to have shortening, which you can't get in Tasmania!
You know, you could probably just use all butter. It might be a little softer, but there really isnt much shortening in it anyway. The ganache kind of helps keep it firm too. It's really yummy!! I do find it seems to work best if you make it a little ahead of time and let it "rest" for awhile before icing with it.
I totally understand where you are coming from Michelle. I think that is exactly why every time I fall off the wagon! I get so discouraged that my efforts aren't paying off that I give up...then I get sick of myself again, then I get excited about trying again. It is a cycle that I cannot seem to stop!
Last week really wasnt the best week for me! A lot of cakes were made and scraps were eaten and buttercreams tested. Plus since it was DH birthday I actually ate a slice or two of cake. So much chocolate! Funny thing was that I only exercised once, and didnt eat very well and I didnt gain any weight. Sometimes I just dont get it. Trying to recapture the excitement again! At least I have been to the gym today and yesterday.
Well the job is going great, thanks, I love it. Great people to work with, helping customers design their cakes all day is fun. My eating, not so much. Havn't got back on track like I want to yet. They insist that I taste test all their products do I can explain them to the customers. Heavenly stuff, but not for a dieter. Oh the torment, lol.
DH has lost 12 lbs. I think "I FOUND IT!" I will weigh in tomorrow ![]()

Oops, I've put on 1/2 lb this week
The week has been so busy that I haven't been doing my walking. I did some very strenuous gardening today, though, that should count for something!!
I think I gained 2 pounds this week! ahhhh! okay, but i told myself that a set back doesnt mean I should quit. I wasnt that good this week or last. So it's my fault entirely. No excuses.
Hi all
I weighed in and lost 2 pounds. I am .9 pounds from being under 200 which is my mini goal.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Merissa and Sonia, keep working and staying strong you can do this!
Ok off to walk 5 miles with WATP and then off to bowling. I havent bowled in probably 15 years!!!
Yay, Michelle!!!! What is WATP???
I'm heading in the right direction now. I walked this morning, even though my SIL couldn't come with me, and I've been eating much better the last few days.
I had a good run this morning, but had a really hard time rolling out of bed! When my alarm goes off I am so depressed! LOL Usually within minutes of waking I am "normal" but lately I am still moping around by the time I arrive at the gym! Of couse when the run is over I am feeling good! It was my best time for a 5K today. I am down to 29:29. I am considering doing the 5K in town late next month. Last year I about died and I hated it the whole time. So I don't know.
Sonia, WATP is Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone. It is a workout series with walking as the main thing, there are also side steps, kicks, knee lifts and a few of them have 2 minutes of light jogging after every mile. I love them and have so many of the DVDs that I dont do the same one in a week, and I now do them 2 times a day 2 days a week.
Merissa, I bet you would like the 5K now that you are running on a regular basis. You should try it. If you hate it again then you know for sure!!
OK gotta run, have loads to do today.
Sounds like you should give it a try, Merissa. You'll probably do really well!!
My brother and his family has a Playstation Wii and I've noticed you can get a workout programme for it. It looks awesome! That's something I'd like to work toward getting.
I went for my walk this morning, and have eaten well today. Overall I'm happy with my progress for the last couple of days.
yeah, my mom and dad have the wii fit. It's fun, but I don't think it's a real calorie burner for most people. It's probably great for people who are pretty sedentary though. But my kids seem to have fun with it! I don't know how much my mom uses it.
Oh, thanks Merissa, it would probably be a waste of money for me, then! I'll stick with the dumbells!!
I should probably let someone who has it answer if it is good or not. I guess I probably havent seen the whole program. There is a lot of balancing games, skiing, and a running thing (you are just running in place). I don't know, I don't think it would be for me (exercise-wise) anyway. I'll ask my exercise buddy about it because she has one.
Well I am down 1 pound from last week to 161. I feel like I am just spinning my wheels sometimes! up 1 down 1...I guess I probably need to get more serious again. I am afraid most of my summer clothes wont fit! I really dont want to go and buy more (bigger) clothes. Also my DH had more lay off's at his work
(not him fortunately!) but who knows!! We need to start saving more money and prepare for the worst. I might have said this before but his company manufactures parts for auto industry. 60% of their revenue comes from GM and Chrystler! If anyone is following the news....that's bad. My DH designs for Honda, but still it's the same company. I am a little stressed about it.
I can understand the stress Merissa. Keeping good thoughts and prayers for you!
I have the Wii My Fitness Coach it is different than Wii Fit. MFC is like a work out DVD, however it is interactive. As you improve the instructor will make the workouts harder. It is a good cardio workout!! It is pretty cool, I do that one and my walking DVD's. I am unofficially at 199.8. I had a fitness test for MFC yesterday and I had to weigh in for that, I am not changing anything until my official weigh in tomorrow morning.
I have seen the Wii Fit and it looks fun, I would say it wouldnt be for me for regular exercise, however for ab work the Hula Hoop thing was fun and did work the abs, I felt it after a party once. We played it and the next day I was wondering why my abs (all ab muscles not just the front ones) were sore. It wasnt until I made a similar move to the hula hoop that I realized why. I felt the Wii Fit was better suited for those who were already in shape, I couldnt see how it would give a good cardio workout.
Good morning everyone!!!
Well it is official, I am under 200 pounds, I weighed in at 197.8 this morning! I have not stopped smiling since I stepped on that scale!
Hope everyone is doing well. Things have slowed down again.
Karen, how are things going with the job, still busy???
Merissa, did you decide to do the 5K?
Sonia, how are things going with the elimination? Have you found out anything more? It is intersting, I am finding that I can not eat white rice and pasta. These make my numbers sky rocket!!
Has anyone heard from Susan? I think I will send her a spark message I see her sometimes over there.
OK gotta run and get some work done!!
Congrats!
That's awesome!
I don't know if I'll do the 5K yet or not. It's not until next month. We'll see how I feel in about a month!
No I havent heard from susan in awhile. in fact it looks like it has just been teh 3 of us for awhile! I know Susan has been going through a lot of life changes lately, I am sure she will be back!
Happy Mothers' Day, all!
The job is going fine. I think that my walking days are over, though. My feet have been killing me for a while. I got some arch supports for in my shoes on Tuesday, but they don't seem to always work for me. By the end of the day today I was having a hard time walking. I think that I will be having to find a podiatrist soon.
Talk to you all soon.
Karen
Hope you feel better soon Karen! It's probably all those hours on your feet with your job. I got these cheap "croc" knock off shoes. They are ugly as all get-out but they sure are comfy for when I am working in my kitchen.
I had a nice Mother's Day despite my DH had to go into work. I wasnt going to complain since I know it was something he needed to do. Plus at least he HAS a job! I took the kids to church by myself (it's not a problem because they all go into their age appropriate classes and I go to the service by myself!) Then we had dinner at my parents. My mom and dad bought me an edible image printer/inks etc for a Mother's Day/Birthday present! WOW! My DH got me a nice lily plant. He said "it's no edible image printer!" But I don't care, I love it. I can plant it and see it every year! Then I watched a movie that I wasted 2 1/2 hours of my life on "there will be blood." It was up for awards and stuff last year, but it wasnt very good!
That's it! Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day as well.
