That was really interesting, Casey. I knew it had something to do with an earlier harvest, but I din't know the rest of the story.

Susan, are you celebrating Thanksgiving this year? Being on a base, I guess there are several others to celebrate with?

HiHi, another newbee here.

I followed both Pootchi and Karate over here, so I hope you don't mind! I've read about 20 of the pages and am definitely liking what I'm seeing.

I definitely need the support to say the least. In June of 2006 I slowly started to lose weight - went from 265 to 221 in a year, then well... I fell off the bandwagon in a way and am now up into the 230s (scales are scary!) I went from living part time with my bf to bascially full time since he got a puppy. And out the window went the good eating habits - my bf is 5'11 and 150 on a good day. lol. Since the puppy (Haru) entered our lives, I don't get nearly enough sleep, barely have the energy to cook, and have re-injured my bum so exercise is hard..... I need help and major motivation!!

But I'm a good cheerleader and can be dedicated when someone kicks my ass.... and since it already hurts you can kick it as hard as you want.

my stats:
Age: 26
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 230ish
I also work full time sitting in a chair, in a cubicle for 9 hours, trying to make my computer listen to me. I live in Vancouver, BC, in a small condo with my bf and his Japanese Spitz Haru. I'm addicted to carbs.... cakes, breads, crackers, you name, I love it. I also can't help but taste test absolutely everything I make!

icon_biggrin.gif And Wednesday is no-cheat Wednesday right? What a great way to start.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Poochi!

Yes, Casey, GO Scorpios! Thanks for the article, that's very interesting.

Otter, it's kind of funny about American holidays over here, especially a really traditional one like Thanksgiving. Because I'm an American citizen and work on a primarily (but not exclusively) American post, I do get the day off. But it's weird, because of course to the Italians, it means nothing, so it's business as usual in my little town. In past years, American friends and I have gotten together and cooked, so it feels a bit more traditional. Of course everything in town is open, banks, etc, and believe me, there are NO Christmas decorations up during that period, it would be waaaay too early for the Italians! It's a bit bittersweet to be here on those types of holidays but I know I'm lucky to live where I do, so I try and take it all in stride.

Hello Everyone! I've been so busy with getting ready to move and kids' doctors appts. , I haven't had time to log in here. I'm glad today is no cheat Wednesday, because I'm bound and determined to behave! This past weekend I had a party to go to and was so proud because I went in with the best of intentions. And I stuck to them, only ate one bratwurst and one soda a small slice of cake. I made the cake and I don't want to toot my own horn icon_redface.gificon_razz.gif but it was soooo good. It was vanilla cake w/ pineapple filling and Coconut/Lemon Buttercream. Anyway, back on tangent, it was Sunday at home that did me in. I stuffed myself w/ Pizza. I guess it's true what the say about the road to heck being paved w/ good intentions. Oh well, I picked myself up somewhat. I was relatively good yesterday but over did it just a bit at dinner. I have not been keeping up w/ my water and I feel it icon_sad.gif
Also, I just wanted to tell y'all that I appreciate all your support and that while I still don't have the courage to throw my number out there, I will tell you this. I weigh way more than anyone here! icon_cry.gif But, don't worry, I AM feeling good about what I've lost so far and am bound and determined to get down some significant weight. I feel like I am not in this alone because of you all thumbs_up.gif

Thanks,

Lynda

Lynda, Congratulations to you for Saturday and for getting back on track! That's one of the things I'm trying to learn...that if I get off track, all is not lost. I used to just chuck everything then go hog wild for the rest of the day or rest of the week or rest of the month....yikes! Now I just try to get back on track.

I like drinking lots of water and usually have no problem having 5 liters+ a day. But now that I'm eating lots of fruits and vegetables and cut way back on salt, I've noticed that I'm not as thirsty anymore, which I think is because there's so much water in the foods. So...I've started adding jalapeno slices to my salads at lunch and no more problem with drinking water! Just a tip that works for me, hopefully someone else will find it useful as well.

Good morning everyong

I didn't check in yesterday because I had the day off and I picked up my dad and step mom at the airport, they returned for the winter. I spent the day with them. We went to IHOP for breakfast and without thinking I had a cup of coffee.....then for dinner we had pizza and again without thinking I had a diet Dr Pepper...... not so good on the no caffeine, but back to it today.

I am also glad it is no cheat Wednesday, I will survive and not cheat!!!

I woke up with a sore neck this morning so didnt work out, I cant get my arm above my head to put on my work out bra, so will spend the day trying to loosen it up so I can work out when I get home.

clsilvus, thanks for the welcome. I'm a Vancouver transplant, came out to UBC about 10 years ago from Calgary. Lived in Vancouver, Richmond, White Rock and most recently bought a condo in Burnaby. I love Downtown, and esp, the kitsilano and main street areas. Lol.... that's ok, not ALL Surrey girls are bad icon_smile.gif I work in Surrey so I've met some good ones!

lynda-bob, don't feel bad about weighing more than anyone here... I've been the heaviest girl in so many situations... but it seems to me, everyone here is so supportive, it doesn't matter your size!

*yawn* so my cold, butt and bf are preventing me from working out, but what do each of you do to work out? Do most people do videos? go to gym? walk? run? I'm trying to motivate myself back in to working out.

I get up at 4:30 AM to 30 min on the treadmill almost everyday, then at least 3 days a week after work I do workouts to DVD's, I have a collection of them and just close my eyes and pick one. Sometimes I have time to do 40 min or 45 min, but mostly it is 30 min.

No cheat Wednesday? Forget it. Today was the Juvenile Justice Week breakfast. I always volunteer to set up and clean up after the breakfast. Today I also attended the swearing in ceremony. Donuts (2), Coke, and apiece of cake. I also had cheese this morning. I did have some fruit. On the up side I ate breakfast. At least it is only once a year.

You can have some caffeine. The idea is that when you are drinking things like coffee or (diet) cokes all day you aren't getting that much water. From what I read you need atleast 6 8oz glasses of water a day. That's 3 bottles of water. Water does all kinds of good things in our body.

So a cup of coffee in the morning probably isn't going to keep you from losing weight as long as you are getting plenty of water in during the day as well. Now 6 cups of coffee and no water would probably work against ya.

Well, I was able to stay away from the coffee this morning. I got my water before I did anything else, and you know I didn't miss it until I went into the kitchen to wash my yogurt spoon. Geeeezzzz it smelled good, but I thought I had made it for a couple of hours I really didn't need it.

I am proud to say that I stayed on the no cheat wednesday so far, my co worker wanted to go to DQ for lunch....I said I cant cheat today, but perhaps tomorrow I can get a small choco soft serve......maybe. I do still have the hour that I am at home tonight before DBF gets home to make it thru.

I thought I might be able to work out after work, but my neck is still very sore so think I may just go home and lay on the floor and try to stretch my arm, shoulder and neck.

Texas, I love having one cup in the morning, anymore than 2 and I find it starts to get bitter. I am trying to keep with this weeks challanges, which one was no caffeine, and since I dont have much, I thought if I could make it this week, I may be able to just chuck the stuff altogether!

Went to the doc for a BP check up, seems my BP keeps going up instead of down. We are going to keep the meds as they are for another 3 weeks when I am in for a diabetes check up, then decide if I have not gotten it down perhaps to change one of the meds. On the up side according to their scale I lost 4 pounds since last month!!! YEA ME (my scale weighs me 3 pounds lighter!)

Congrats Karate on losing the 4 lbs!! That is great. And wohoo for passing up DQ! I did a no chocolate thing about 6 months ago and haven't had a DQ blizzard since although man... the pumpkin pie one they have out now.....

I'm doing good on the no-cheat Wednesday. We'll see how I manage tonight. Dinner is porkchops and perogies. I'm hoping I don't eat too many icon_biggrin.gif My workout will be walking up and down the hill by my place if this hail and thunder and lightening stops. I hope the puppy is doing ok with it at home!

So weigh-in day is tomorrow?

Good luck limiting yourself on perogies, I'm so jealous right now. I need to make some, I can't find any here.

Way to go on the weight loss Karate, at least some of us are losing.

No-cheat wednesday. What do you mean by no cheating? I am addicted to Quaker Oatmeals Chocolate Chip Cookies. They have 5 grams of fiber so in my mind they're okay - I've had 2.

Pickles, love them. Low in calories but man are they high in sodium. What's your take on pickles?

Dreading weigh-in tomorrow. Thinking another gain here...we'll see.

Good luck tomorrow everyone.

3) Breakfast every day

Good Morning everyone

I forgot to weigh in this morning, since I hurt my neck I didn't work out so forgot to weigh. I will weigh tomorrow, and take my measurements tonight and will post all tomorrow.

Great job Susan, 2sdae and Pootchi on the loss.

My goals for this week.

1. increase my morning work out, have to say I didn't get that done last week.
2. Eat a good breakfast at least 2 days a week, tend to skip or have yogurt only.
3. do better on no cheat Wednesday, you see after work yesterday while I was waiting for DBF to get home I had the left over hot wings from the day before, then ate dinner. I did so well during the day, then blew it!!!

OK I have a question........I know we need to dring water, which I do, I have one of thoese Bubba Kegs at work and drink at least 2 a day, then go home and have at least 3 glasses at night. I love Peligrino bottled carbinated water....is this just as good as water???????

Happy loosing everyone!!!

Yep, carbonated is fine, you just need to make sure you don't get too bloated. I'm addicted to carbonated water...the more I drink, the more I want!

I'm having a really hard day, for no particular or good reason. Not a hard food day, just a hard emotional day. I feel exhausted and overwhelmed. I'm having unexpected (and frankly unwanted) company all weekend and then I leave Sunday for a week long mosaic class. I think I'll be excited once I get there but it just feels like an expensive chore now. And I won't have much control over my food because I'll be staying in a bed and breakfast, hopefully there will be healthy choices available. My place is a mess because the company is coming on Friday, a day earlier than planned, so I'll be up late tonight to straighten up. I return home next Friday and then have out of town company Saturday and Sunday. It's the blessing and curse of living in Europe...everyone comes, invited or not!

Thanks for being a sounding board!!

I finally went and got my Crystal Light, so am back on track w/ the water consumption, but I need to up my exercising for sure.
I also wanted to share with you all that I've been doing Slim-Fast and it seems to work for me. I don't limit what I eat for dinner in so far as choices, but I do limit the amount of food. Add a big salad to dinner every night. Also, I snack on Fruit and Veggies. All of this w/ the water is keeping me from feeling deprived.
BUT, I'm having a birthday dinner for my step daughter on Sunday; Chinese food and CAKE! EEEK! icon_razz.gif I;ll do my best to keep the portions under control thumbs_up.gif

jenbenjr 2 and half hour workouts, you are my hero, Im lucky to get in 45 min at a time, ususlly only 30!!

lynda-bob, great job on the loss, I cant wait until I get to my first 10 pound loss!!

About a month or so ago I made a change in my lunch habits. I now have a salad for lunch Mon - Fri. I actually feel gross if I go off of that and have regular food at lunch, funny how your body adapts after awhile.

Karate.......although sometimes I do workout for 2 hours at a time, I usually break up my workouts. I like to workout in the afternoon for about an hour and 15 minutes after I put the kids down for a nap. Then.....around 8 pm...I workout with my MIL usually for about 1 and a half hours. I totally get what you are saying about if you change your eating habits you feel gross. That is why I think I haven't felt right all week. I haven't been home much and have ate out alot this week. I did it... I stepped on the dreaded scale this morning...

244.5 icon_cry.gif I'm up 25 pounds from my lowest weight in March of this year. 25 lbs in 6 months. That scared me this morning to definitely get back on track. Thank goodness it was no cheat Wednesday because as I was staring in the fridge at my leftover toblerone fudge, peanut butter cake and truffles and i just kept repeating to myself 'no cheat', 'no cheat', 'no cheat' until I got myself seated back down with my homework and water. So I'm going to join you Otter on a no cheat Thursday also!

Susan, it sounds like the next few weeks will be hard - company, especially unexpected and unwanted tends to kill my diet! I'm a total emotional eater. But your weeklong class sounds fun... a possible stress relief?

Congrats Karate, Susan, Pootchi, and Lynda on the weight loss

And Jen, I bow down to you and your 2 1/2 workouts! thumbs_up.gif

Oh... and clsilvus, I passed on the perogies and we went out instead for Vietnamese Beef Noodle soup to help the colds... high in sodium, but low in fat and calories! I drank so much extra water I was up all night! hehe.

Crislen, your weight was also my start weight! We can do this together! I'm surprised at how much more encouraged I feel, having lost just 10.5 pounds. I can't say I really feel much different physically yet, but for me, emotions are the majority of the battle because I'm definitely an emotional eater and when I feel confident emotionally, I feel much better and in control overall.

Sorry for my whining yesterday everyone...I got my little place all tidied up last night and was able to get a good night's sleep, so I'm feeling more stable. My mosaic class will be fun and I'm sure my 2 take home projects will rank right up there with any kindergardener's!! It'll be nice to be off work for a week as well. For some reason, my internet at home has been down for the past 2 days (don't even get me started on the Italian phone company!!), so if it's still down, this may be my last post till after next week. I'm at work now and I leave for class on Sunday and return next Saturday. Hopefully all will be working when I get home tonight but I've learned not to count on these services!! If I don't get a chance to say it again, everyone have a GREAT week, I'll miss you and think about you everyday!

Good morning all!

Susan, you have a great vacation. I know I envy you, Italian phone company and all.

I did well on my no cheat Thursday. No caffeine, sensible eating, breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus snacks, water. How did everyone else who joined me in no cheat Thursday do?

I am also happy to report that I was down two pounds. 154 even now. That makes an eight-pound loss over the last year. If it weren't for the sizes lost, I'd be crying on my morning toast.

Did I mention getting back onto my vitamin regimen in my goals? I haven't taken any since I got sick. I am starting back on them today.

Jenbenjr, keep up the good work. I find it so hard to work out. We got a gym membership and hardly ever go now. That is going to have to change, especially since I am paying for it. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Everybody have a great day!
