I know now I am reatining water like the Hoover damm! I just weighed myself beacuse I told you I didn't weigh any more than usual the last2 days but my clothes still felt tight. Well this morning my scale says 135! No way I gained 9 pounds in a day. I zeroed it and reweighed 4 times! Off to a good dieuretic (sp) for me today! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I'm going to be the hypocrite and give you a pep talk this morning...I had a piece of cake last night, myself. Tried a new cranberry cake recipe and HAD to taste it, so I told myself.

Don't give in to the negativity! Everyone is making progress!! Even if it's not showing on the scale or in your clothes this week, it's showing in your attitude! Every member of this group has starting thinking differently about our habits. We're getting there! We may not see progress every single week, but the progress is there!! Don't give up! Stick with it, don't beat yourself up for the slips along the way, stay focused on the goal! PUT DOWN THE CAKE AND PICK UP THE WATER!!! DIE FAT CELLS, DIE!!

I know what you mean, Merissa. DH asked me last night why I was part of a weight loss group when needed to focus on my back. I told him that I'm taking the focus off the weight loss, but I still had to be part of the group...He said, "why? they're friends now, right?"
ABSOLUTELY!!

Thanks Shellie icon_biggrin.gif I totally agree, just because we've never met, that doesn't mean we're not friends. I've never met any of you, and here I am talking about my biggest vice and life-long struggle with my weight.

I finally added some pictures to the Yahoo group, and am embarrassed to say they're all 3 1/2 years old icon_redface.gif But I am just about the same weight right now as I was then. I even dug out the shorts I have on in one of the pictures to make sure, and yep, they fit! I don't have any thinner pics on the computer because they are all pre-digital camera icon_lol.gif

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I was contemplating some "lifestyle changes" and it got me wondering how do you all do your grocery shopping? What I mean is do you all shop like once a week or biweekly, monthly etc? I go every two weeks and always mean to get fresh fruit and veggi's once a week but the budget never works out that way. So I was thinking of going more often, like twice a week - grocery store is one mile away, so not a big deal.

Anyway just a question of curiosity.

I have the same problem, Amber. I go once weekly, but my fresh veggies (especially lettuce) always go bad so quick!! Of course, I pass the grocery store to and from work every day, but I hate stopping...I always spend more than I should! But even when I do buy the healthy stuff, I put it in the crisper and tend to forget it's there! I did buy some yogurt smoothies for my breakfast this week, only 60 calories and they are SO good and filling! Really satisfies the sweet tooth.

MMMM Smoothies. That has been the one thing me and my boys have gotten into. We bought a smoothy maker - blender with a spout - for like $10 and now I throw in some milk, nonfat yogurt and frozen berries, instant treat without the guilt.

The grocery shopping is just one of those things in all my years I can't get a good system for. Either we're in over abundance (right after I shop) Or scrounging for bits and pieces (right before I'm do to shop again). --uuugh I wish I'd have taken a couple home ec classes in school After 8 years as a SAHM I still feel like I haven't got a clue.

Hi everyone! So I didnt have the best weekend....as far as diet goes. I ate pizza on FRI and SAT! Plus I had quite a bit of chocolate. Ugh. I am afraid to step on the scale. So i probably wont for a couple of days because I know I will just be frustrated. But the good news is that I have renewed vigor this morning. I have been to the gym and now I plan on focusing on what I AM doing. If I do my planned exercise and I eat right at least 6 days a week, I am going to *TRY* to stop worrying about how fast the weight comes off. I guess I would rather slow and steady and able to maintain, than quick and bouncing all around. I am going to try to focus on the weight lifting 3x a week and aerobic exercise 3 times weekly (like the bodyfor life program) And continue with the the SBD for the most part. I think I will take at least one meal or one day off from the diet even though it makes me gain weight, but I dont want to fall off the wagon. I am going to take my bikini pics about once a month instead of getting caught up with the numbers on the scale. So that is my new plan!

As far as grocery shopping, I usually go one a week. We just got a new used freezer (for free!) so that should help with stocking up on some things. I actually like grocery shopping because then I can get out of the house (usually without the kids)!

I did pretty good over the weekend. I did have 2 small pieces of pepperoni/mushroom pizza (thin crust) on Friday but that was pretty much my only slip-up that day. Saturday was fine. Sunday, I had to deliver a 3-D dog bone cake so I have cake scraps in the house but I am trying to leave them alone. I had a major breakthrough today as I drove right on by the Dunkin Donuts. That is huge for me as I LOVE glazed yeast donuts and before I joined this cake club I would've swung in, picked up 2 donuts and had them scarfed down by the time I got home. As far as shopping, I go as needed - 1 to 2 times a week.

I always shop once a week. We did a mega budget a few years ago so now every Friday I take out cash and that is what I have to spend. It was really hard at first and I had to carry around a calculator but now I'm practically professional. I am getting much better at actually feeding my family the green veggies that I buy so that they don't go to waste.

Not a great weekend but not a bad one either. We decided we want to move so in order to list our hosue, we have a lot of work to do. We spent a lot of the weekend doing house things, it's amazing how much "stuff" I've accumulated but now it's been weeded through and we put up new shelves and on top of that, it was a whole day I was too busy to snack! Sunday we went to the boat show so while it's not really formal exercise, I was chasing my kids around and going up and down stairs and ended up carrying my 2 1/2 year old for a chunk of the day. That all counts as exercise right?

I'm going to have to get on my computer at home and download a picture or two of me. I've been surprised at what everyone looks like so far, not that I had preconcieved notions, just the opposite really, I didn't know what to expect at all.

What a week this has already been! My 13 year old has been having breathing problems, my 2 year old has been very crabby & very not understanding about the 13 year old needing me alot. Then there's the fact my husband's business has been non stop over time. So I have been cooking, cleaning, nursing and passifying till my tummy hurts and now I am cramping like crazy! Oh Tuesday, I'm so sorry for you. Doesn't it seem just when life gets manageable all of sudden you get a curve ball, or two or three. Shellies right maybe you could enlist the little one to help.

Hey Shellie what kind of meds are you on? Mom's a nurse so I here about all sorts of drugs and side effects, it always interests me. It's better than when she would come home and explain (over dinner!!) the IV that she had to do in someone's foot. icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif I'm very squimish about those things, how I ended up with a mother who loves blood and gore. icon_confused.gif

It was cute but pitiful at the same time! icon_rolleyes.gificon_wink.gif
Now if I can kick these cramps it would be alot better, meds kicked in and oldest is breathing well, little one is absorbed by Peter Pan and I really need to bke my class project for my gumpaste class 4 finale cake!!!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif AAAARRRRRGGGG!!!!! give me strength not to just eat all my cake from last class.....white chocolate with bavarian b/c filling and french vanilla mmf! Glad kids are feeling better Tuesday! I am sending subliminal messages to you. Do not eat all of the cake do not eat all of the cake do not eat all of the cake do not eat all of the cake do not eat all of the cake...Okay so it's not subliminal, but worth a try. I just got finished licking the bowl, so I am not one to talk. you know if was my taste test. I am doing a baby shower cake for saturday that I am really excited about. At least I wont have to eat any leftovers either. Otherwise i have been doing pretty good the last couple of days...I put some new tunes on my ipod shuffle and I was good to go at the gym today. I dont know what thursday will bring though!

Too funny about your kids, but at least you have a doctor willing to humor her. Just a tip - Pamprin is a lifesaver, it'll take you back from the edge so to speak - if we're talking girl cramps (sorry Nick if your still watching this topic, but it's a predominately girly site you were bound to here stuff like this icon_razz.gif ) As far as strength for not eating your cake - GOOD LUCK!! - that sounds DELICIOUS. I learned to keep my class cakes simple and easy so it was easier to resist. AND of course ship them off to the inlaws as fast as possible.

Glad to hear the kids have settled down for you, Tuesday! I have always said I'd rather take a beating than be stuck at home with a sick kid...(wow, that sounds mean of me, doesn't it??LOL)

Amber, I spent a few weeks on oral steroids, then I got an epidural steroid injection. I've also been on muscle relaxers and vicodin and/or ultracet for a couple of months. I'm blaming the water retention/weight gain on the steroids...and it was all for nothing, they didn't work!! I hope the side effects are finally wearing off...at least, the constant hunger is gone!

I think when I get back on my diet plan, I'm going to set my goal 10 lbs lower than I actually want...then when I reach my goal I'm going to spend a whole weekend eating nothing but cake and potato chips...oh, that's my weakness talking!!

Tuesday, did they figure out what's wrong with your daughter? That's scary stuff. Don't eat the cake!!!

I love my Wilton instructor because she only wants us to being a cake in for the last week of class (next week) instead of every week. She said that when she first started learning this both she & her husband gained a lot of weight, and she knows we can practice Course 1 things without having a cake to put them on. Phew! That made things much easier for me. For next week I'm going to make a chocolate chip cake...drool...

I am trying to be very good this week so I can eat cake next week icon_twisted.gif

And get this now...I had made a pan of my brownie-m&ms for a friend's son who doesn't like cake. So now one of the mother's there wants one too. But she wants 3 -13x9 inch pans. They are double dutch chocolate brownies baked with m&ms and then iced with real butter chocolate b/c and then sprinkled with M&M'S minis. Suprisingly they are really good and not too sweet. But boy does that mean constraint on my part! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
And yes, they said my daughter had a virus and a sinus infection, so a z-pck and some nose later she is breathing fine and at least more comfortable.

Just a reminder ladies - it's no cheat Wednesday!!! I really need this because I have snacked way too much this week. We polished off the rest of the valentines cookies & cupcakes over the weekend, and after that I went back to my old habits of eating because I wanted to eat, not because I was hungry. *sigh* I haven't kept a food journal for a little while & I need to start that again.

No cheating today!!!!! I'll be on a field trip with DS this afternoon so being out of the house should help.

Well I have officially cheated. I ate some chocolate chips and then ate part of a double chocolate cookie. I got them on Sunday (this big container) because they were free. I have watching my family really enjoy these cookies and a girl can only resist so long. Kinda wish I hadnt, but at least I exercised today. Hope everyone else is doing better than me!

I was really bad during the weekend so I vowed to be really good this week. Monday night dh brougt home 1 1/2 dozen M&M cookies from the bakery and I was so mad. He ate 3 then I made him throw them out, I can't resist temptation too long. I've only exercised once this week so far, I'm not expecting much from the scale tomorrow.

I heard not that long ago on some kind of discovery health type of show that you have to burn 3500 more than you eat ( a week ) to lose 1 lb. so I try to keep that in mind when making choices in what I eat.

Yeah I think that is about right. I was thinking 3200, but something along those lines surely! Think about it though, that is somewhere around 500 calories a day! I guess if you split it between diet and exercise it isnt too bad. Also I guess that is why we shouldnt be expecting to loose more than a pound or two a week.
