No, it doesn't sound unrealistic, Tuesday. As you get closer and closer to your goal, you can decide to stop when you are happy. I've never seen one of those weight charts that was accurate.

I have a friend who was trying to lose weight, working out daily and barely eating anything, but couldn't lose. She asked her dr. for help, and he just told her that if she wasn't losing weight, she must be eating too much. Talk about RUDE!! And people wonder how eating disorders get started...

Don't get upset (I'm still kinda sensative to the whole just turned 30 thing) but I think that at 30, the weight goes up. I'll check WW.

Actually, it is 25:

Good for you. What he said was highly inappropriate. I can definitely understand him wanting to make sure you did not get extreme about your diet & weight loss because clearly anexoria is a big problem in our society and should always be confronted. But, being 5'3" & 120 is not too thin. I think that's an ideal weight for that height. In any case, he should not have made that comment icon_mad.gif I would find another doctor and make sure his office knows why you are leaving the practice.

Sorry about your sinus infection! Those always make me miserable.

My weigh in...199. I don't understand, I couldn't possibly have gained 10 lbs in one week??? icon_confused.gif My clothes aren't any tighter this week...I just don't get it. I guess I am just going to have to work harder this week. I should be able to get off all my meds next week, so if that's what's messing me up, hopefully I can get back on track. *sigh*

Wow, thanks for starting a spreadsheet!

When I went to the MD two weeks ago to get test results, blah, blah, blah, the nurse practitioner said that I should get down to 112 lbs. (I'm 5'2", age 47 this June) I looked her straight in the eye and said that that was never going to happen!! I'll be thrilled to just get down to 130 by next Christmas!! I hate those stupid weight charts - I never did think they were very realistic, especially when you approach menapause with all the hormonal upheaval!!

Now see on that ww chart it says 113 to 135 for my age which will be 32 next wed. So 120 should be realistic. And yes, I don't usually see this MD but mine was on vacation and this is one of the 4 in this practise. But I did file a complaint with the office manager. icon_twisted.gif

Here is what I have always used for reference to weight. if you are 5' tall then you a good weight would be 100 pounds. For every inch over that you add 5 pounds. So if you are 5'3" Then that would make 115. So I dont think that is unrealistic at all. Obviously there is a range here for a healthy wieght, depending on age and frame size etc. That is how I picked 135 as my goal weight.

Found this chart in my Dr. Phil diet book. The lower ranges are for smaller boned and upper end for larger boned people. I can see now that my original figures are a little on the low side, but still realistic.

Yes, I wil definately try to post it when I'm done!

I had my son in May of 05. I started WW in November of 05. So I have been on and off since then, more on than off. I hate formal exercise, so I just diet and try to get my water in. I chose WW because I was nursing and they are the only ones who have a safe plan to do while nursing.

Katie, congrats on YOUR loss!! I have lost all of the baby weight, too and am now working on the OTHER weight. Prozac made me blow up!

Screw the drs. My mom is a nurse and I am here to tell you, they are normal people just like you and me. They know us as a sheet of paper that they see very occasionally, along with a thousand other patients. Don't take what they say too personally. Many of them can be real azzhats and be great drs with horrible bedside manners. They're not there to stroke your ego or to make you feel good about yourself. That is what Pshychiatrists do. They want to figure out the SCIENCE behind everything.

Now I'm not saying there aren't nice drs, too. But my experience has been that many of them are not really people persons, they are scientists. I need to find better ways to spend my time!

All this to say, WOO HOO to everyone on all of your pounds lost!

name- Narie
age- 61
height- 5'8"
starting weight- morbidly obese(We are are talking about a very serious and incapacitating problem.)
lbs off today - 47 (started on January 2)
goal -anywhere between 165 and 180

I have a sign on my computer station that reads $25,000 is the price of not staying on your diet. Which is the general price of Bariatric surgery. When I was in the Dr.'s office before Thanksgiving, he brought the subject up. But he first had to get my thyroid straightened out. Once the increased medication had a chance to kick in. I was able to actually try to lose some of the weight.

I am using medifast 5+ lean and green. It is drastic but -short of dropping dead or having a surgery I am totally uninterested in - I really don't have a choice. New Year's Day I had family over for dinner and when they left in the evening they took all my chocolate, left over Christmas cookies etc. We scoured my cupboards, and freezer for temptations. I even gave a way my eggs. Hey, I know how to bake so eggs= goodies, without eggs it is hard to bake. I cheat frequently and eat a mini bag of popcorn or a couple of crackers, and I eat a real meal every other week.

What will my reward be? Easy being able to walk around like a normal person without pain.

Welcome Narie! We here on this board are in it for the "killing of fat cells" and supporting eachother while we do it. icon_wink.gif We are different in shapes and sizes and how much we need to loose and method of loosing it. So loads of helpful hints and advice float through here at any one time.
On thursdays we do a weigh in and revise of our weekly goals. You don't have to reveal your weight if you don't want to. You can glance back over our pages and see what we do as far as goals for ourselves. Mostly adding water to our daily habbits and exercise of what ever kind we can manage. We do chat back and forth over the weekend to keep eachother strong from those boredom snacking attacks and watching everyone we know graze. We also do a recovering Monday to boost our moral from any slip ups on our weekend. Then there is No cheat Wed! Pretty self explanatory there.
But most of all we are here to help and lend an ear and offer helpful support when needed. So the more the merrier, I hope you drop by often and enjoy our little group as much as we do! It's saturday girls....KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FAT CELL KILLING FIGHT!!!!!

Our goals are to help everyone to look and feel their best. Come here anytime you feel like you can help uplift someone or anytime you are feeling down and need support from someone else. Hi everyone. My name is Nicky I've lost 49 lbs. Which put me back where I needed to be. I'm 5'4" and now weight 118. A year and a half ago I weighed 167 and gaining....I would have kept getting bigger and bigger if I had not made changes.
I'm not sure what all kinds of "diets (I prefer to call them lifestyle change myself) you all are on but I would like to share w/ you what I did to lose the weight and then to keep it off.

What I did was I went and bought a juicer from wal-mart (Juiceman Jr.) For 10 days I juiced all kinds of vegetables but mostly carrots. I didnt "eat" anything. Let me tell you it sounds harder than it is because the juice filled me up and I actually felt better than I had felt in a long time! I had all kinds of energy! I jumped on the trampoline w/ my kids, rode bikes w/ them etc. I was not depriving my body of anything in fact I was consuming more vitamins & minerals than I was when I was eating (I didn't eat the right foods) During those 10 days I would juice anytime I wanted....when I first started feeling hungery. After a few days I figured out when my hunger pains would start so then I would go ahead and plan it so that I would juice before I got hungery so after the first 3 days I didn't ever really feel hunger because by then I was on a schedule and knew when to juice which was before I started feeling hungry. In between drinking the juices I would drink water. If I had to go somewhere I would take my water. The first 3 days was the hardest but after I got past those 3 days it really became easy. After the 10 days was up (I had lost 10 lbs.)I started eating big salads twice a day while still juicing but not juicing as much...(the salads replaced 2 of the juices which was 32 ozs.) Oh yeah by the way I would drink 2cups/16 ozs at a time-so when I say I drank juices 4 times a day that means I drank 64 ozs. of juice a day)
Ok so anyway after 10 days of drinking 64 ozs of juice a day I started eating big salads. I ate spinach salads but romaine lettuce would good if you don't like raw spinach-just don't use iceberg because iceberg has absolutely no vitamins or minerals...it's a "blank food" that offers nothing for the body. I added whatever chopped veggies to salad that wanted. I even added peanuts to my salads. I used an oil based dressing...like light Italian dressing. For the next 5 days that is what I did. I juiced appox. 32 ozs. of juice daily and ate 2 big salads w/ chopped veggie & peanuts and my water) I was completely satisfied. After those 5 days I had lost a total of 17lbs. Then I started adding other foods in like potatoes, rice, noodles etc. after a few days then I added small amounts of good meat........I still kept juicing just cutting the juices out. By the time I was eating all foods again I was only drinking one 16 oz juice. I kept losing weight and eating basically whatever I wanted just in moderation...I even ate cake in moderation. I found though that craved healthier foods than before. So I wasnt wanting greasy fried junk etc. What happened was by doing the 10 day juice and then the 5 day juice/salad I "detoxed" my body......which in return revved up my metabolism. I had reached my ideal weight of 118 in just 6 months (Sept.2005 - March 2006) It has been nearly 1 yr later and I haven't gained any weight back. I eat whatever I want (like I said earlier though I crave healthier foods now), if I want desert or something else though I dont deprive myself of it because that only makes me want that thing more. LOL .So I go ahead and eat some in normal moderation w/ out going overboard.. I don't pig out but eat till I'm full. I only juice now every once and while not daily.(Every few days. Its like the veg. juice keeps me flushed out)

Anyway, it worked miracles for me so thought I would share "my secret" (LOL) w/ anyone who may be interested.
~Nicky
(p.s. I just wanted to come back in and edit a few misspellings and to add that of course we all go up & day a lb or 2 during certain times of the month...I do that too so when I said I haven't gained not even 1 lb that is w. the excepttion of the certain times of the month..ykwim?....I just meant I haven't gained any "weight back")

Hey everyone I'm Casey. Here's my stats

current weight: 198
goal weight: 135
height: 5'4"
2 kids: my son is 4 1/2, my daughter is 1 1/2

I'd like to say I've been struggling with my weight since my son was born but since I haven't given it a valid effort I'll say I've been overweight since.
I am really sick and tired of being so down on myself so I've decided that this time is for real!!! It is so nice to have a place like this to come to and vent and just know that I am not the only one that feels like this.
My weakness is sweets and pizza and pop and baking and....you get the idea. I can do pretty good if I'm not around it, I even just looked at the 75% off bags of christmas chocolates at the grocery store but then my husband will bring crap home and that is where my problems lie...NO WILL POWER. I've been doing better recently with this though.

So my goals are

to drink more water
exercise 4 times a week
and say no when dh brings the junk food home

Yummy. Then for dinner I had 1 taco supreme and 1/2 a nacho. I know not very healthy. But it was a family day and I was not cooking! Lazy, I am. But I did get in plenty of exercise at the circus with my 2 year old running every where at the circus..and I mean everywhere! Lol! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

I had an okay day yesterday. My dad's party was last night, so my 'dinner' was party food, meatballs, sausages, cheese, pickles, olives, well, you get the idea. But I only had one small piece of cake (I couldn't resist, I made WASC for the first time and everyone was RAVING about it...) But I sent the leftover cake home with everyone else, I desperately wanted to bring myself a piece home, but I resisted!

Welcome all newcomers! Narie, it sounds like you have a good handle on your issues - keep it up thumbs_up.gif

I have not had a good weekend!! My son begged for donuts at the store today, and DH backed him up, so we now have donuts in the house. I have eaten two so far, but NO MORE. We ate out yesterday too - I got a salad but it had avocado slices in it. Good but fatty. I did treadmill Friday & yesterday, and I will get on this afternoon when DH gets home.

Tonight I have to make MMF for the NFSC I'm making for v-day at school, and then on Tuesday night I have to make cupcakes for the school parties.

I need extra willpower this week icon_cry.gif
