I really think tolerance is the name of the game when we join forums. Lots of different people on here for lots of different things. That is what is so cool about so many people being able to come to one place and get help even if it is totally different from the last 100 questions and even if it has been asked 100 times before. Just because I have a technique down doesn't mean many others do, and I certainly don't begrudge anyone who needs to ask the same question I asked before (or wanted to myself). These types of thread, in my opinion, just take up space for those desperate people out there needing an answer right now, so I guess we are all guilty. icon_wink.gif

I think tolerance is key for us all. This place is just too good to pick on what isn't right. There is too many things that ARE right! thumbs_up.gif

Thank you CC administrators for making this available to us and for putting up with us...petty differences and ALL!! LOL!!

tolerance is definitely needed reading this!

I cant believe how rude some of you are being.....

apparently there needs to be an article about who to bow down to and who to avoid annoying with our unworthiness

too many chiefs if you ask me....seems some think they have the right to tell others how, when, where and why

who cares...who asks what...where they ask it....if it irritates you so bad move on...ignore it. This really has gotten to be one big cat box! icon_rolleyes.gif

Not everyone is so internet savvy or has all day to sit on cc watching every post that they come to ask a question and know where to look or assume its already been asked.....

Did you guys ever think that if everyone went back and looked for all their answers there would be no forum?

Actually, I love answering the repeated questions, sometimes its something I learned that day!! It's fun to see who will answer first!

One good thing is when a newbie has the question, someone will redirect back to another post about the same thing. Then there's a lot more information and questions beyond the original questions that have already been answered right there. (did that make sense?)lol.

redirection is great! I enjoy that myself. I can brush up on things that I didn't know or had forgotten.

Thanks Rezzy!!

I also think that if people don't know the answer, usually they won't post. I know I don't (I may be guilty of replying, stating I don't know the answer but had to comment on something else mentioned or shown in the original post, though). It may have been the luck of the draw at the moment that the question was posted--no one on-line at that time actually knows the answer. Wait a few hours, then either decide to give a bump, or just wait for someone to view unanswered posts (I've used that a number of times myself). If someone keeps bumping their post, to me they are making seem like their question is way more important than someone else's. Nope. And I think someone is taking a risk when they post a question that needs a response immediately--again, the luck of the draw if someone can answer right away--usually there is.

The one thing that bugs me, though, that I have seen a number of times is when someone posts a question, one person does take the time to answer and then the original poster does a bump with no thank you or any indication that they took the time to view the answer that was given to them. Nice way to appreciate the time that someone actually took to answer your question. thumbsdown.gificon_sad.gif

Guilty as charged...again! Maybe HEATH'S POST, should have been bumped.

When I ask a "How do I..." question, I usually need a response ASAP and I am waiting to see if I get an answer because I am right in the middle of a cake. So, you can flog me if you want!

Well, the first two pages of this thread surprised me, I expected to get reamed for having the "guts to speak up", but this page a last few of your posts have lived up to my expectation and then some.

So it is not okay for me to voice an opinion that has already been stated by an Administrator. You are so right, tolerance is indeed the name of the game. Thanks for yours. Janice

You are right with speaking your opinion as is everyone else. I just feel bad for new members and them feeling bullied by some of these posts. I have been made to feel like an "idiot" when starting out and guilty of the usual questions....what is mmf ect....LOL. It took be a bit but I figured out how to get answers with out "bugging" people. I must say though every question was answered in the end, and thankyou for those who answered my question even if they answered it a million times before.

this is the exact reason i spoke up.....because these posts complaining about whats been asked a million times are very offensive to someone who needs help but has no idea where to find it. I was extremely quilty of it before I sat on cc all day and figured it all out icon_lol.gif

You absolutely have a right to your opinion......even though I respectfully disagree....I think this is yet another example of how us women are emotional communicators...I am sure I am not the only one who has noticed this, but back when I was in the work force (and not a SAHM-which by the way took me forever to figure out what SAHM meant...LOL) I always worked better with men than other women...I think that is why we sometimes get grumpy with each other on this site....for the most part...we are women! We are defenders of the underdogs, wipers of runny noses, listeners of all kinds of problems, cooks, housekeepers etc (yes I know I am generalizing) we are bound to get cranky ...afterall....don't we ladies darn near DO IT ALL!

ok I know I stray from the original topic.....but let us remember....there is a good chance that many of us are PMSing .....LOL

I hope this interjects the humor I am trying to add........

Well, I am new also and don't really know all the terms listed. I do, however, try to do a search on my own to figure them out. Like Viva, Melvira, etc. I try to find answer first then ask. I just recently asked another member about the whole BUMP thing because I didnt' get that at all. I just figured if you didnt know an answer you wouldn't respond instead of putting BUMP in it. I think it would be a good idea to have a section on abbreviations that pertain to this board and maybe an index of some sort. Today I wanted to look at some cakes made with a college motif and I had to look thru the whole album. When I did a search with the specifics, I didn't get it.

MMF is marshmallow fondant, DH is dear husband, IMBC Italian Merengue butter cream, BC buttercream, SMBC Swiss .... At least I "think" this is what they mean...?? I'm still happy to be here even if some members get frustrated with us newbies....

It is not wrong that some one post a "I need an answer qick" and that is not what I said. What is wrong, and what Heath already pointed out, are those people that continuously bump their posts every 15 minutes. All I said was that people who do post those type of questions run the risk of not getting an answer because there really may not be someone on-line that may know the answer. No flogging involved here.

ok.... guilty as charged
yes i have bumped and i know i have asked "stupid"questions.
a primer on how to use the site would be very helpful-it takes a while to figure it out.

I am pretty much a novice at this whol cake thing- and geez i am sorry if i get anoying... but there is stuff i just don't know. and sometimes my search's don't pull it up.

i like to answer questions i know the answers to - and most of them i wouldn't know the answer to if not for cc abd others hard earned wisdom.

these questions such as pricing and basics may sound repetitive and stupid to a lot of you- but as for me personally this is the stage i am at (maybe in a year or towo i will find it silly to....)

so.... i promise no bumping

but please don't get annoyed at me

I would also like mention something about search. It seems like we need way more categories in the search than only How do I and Decorating tips. I know there are more, but......within How Do I there could be about 10 different sub-categories, like the Fondant Folder, the Bushel of BC questions, The gumpaste galore, Piping predicaments, chocolate. I think this would make searching easier. I have searched before for something and come up with about 400 topics.

That is something else that is difficult, the topic is not always reflective of the content of the thread. Like, "I've got a question..." doesn't make me read it.....it could be anything. whereas if it said FBCT question, then I would know if I have enough knowledge in that area to even look. If I don't think I can help, then I don't look because I don't want to have "viewed" without responding and being helpful.

There is just SO MUCH information.....and sometimes you don't have an hour or more to spend to get the answer, you feel it would be quicker to just re-post. I know i am guilty of that.

Anyway, thanks for starting this thread. It has been interesting to see.

This topic or a similar one has come many times since I've been here at CC. It usually ends in an argument. I too get annoyed at the bump syndrome we have going on here, but if I see one more "how do I make red?" question I'm going to scream. A quick search will give all you need to know. I understand people need answers, and sometimes I know I've asked a question when I know the answer can be found by searching, but some questions are asked over and over and over! icon_mad.gif It gets kinda boring.

OH. My. Gobs. Of. Icing....

I am definitely guilty of "bumping" my own posts. I did it because I needed an answer pretty dang'd quickly. And, I was answered...pretty dang'd quickly! thumbs_up.gif

As for the newbies: We're really glad you're here, and ask all the "stupids" you want--there aren't any "stupids," though-- icon_smile.gif

As for the "tolerance" thing: That's why I have an "ignore" button; There's one person I never do read. That's because she burns my a$$ with her incessant "I'm always right and if you don't like it you can kiss my grits" attitude. icon_cool.gif

So NOW that I KNOW about the "bumping" thing, (and I'm glad I do know now) I hope I don't do it too often! But I can't guarantee the next time I have a pressing "emergency" that I won't....Just forgive an old cop in advance, y'all! icon_biggrin.gif
