*Mopping sweat from brow* I wasn't nervous... I knew it wasn't me!

Back on subject though... it would be AWESOME of that acronym list was posted on the home page with a little sign that says "Read this before using forums" or something like that, along with a few etiquette tips. I know no one means any harm, but I can understand how people get frustrated. We all want to help each other, but we also like to see people TRY just a little to figure things out. That's how it stays a learning process!! You grow and learn how to find things, etc.

Let's all try not to be judgmental of each other... we are here to help each other, not claw each other's eye out!! icon_lol.gif Wait a minute... I'm being the reasonable one instead of flying off the handle? Hey guys... quick... Melvira's back on her meds!! (Kidding... not on drugs!)

Some sort of Orientation section would be good.... How about a FAQ section.... Then the orientation could say before you ask...check here.... When is the buttercream article coming out.... I digress....

Bumping when you need an answer quick for something is totally understandable to me. I think bumping your own "entertaining" thread is what is annoying.

I don't mind answering the newbie questions about MMF, coloring, cake sticking, etc. because sometimes you learn a new technique from another poster that you wouldn't have found by searching an old thread.

It's a forum. We evolve as decorators. It's not a stagnant process where "it's all been done" reigns supreme. We need new insight, and while the advice and experience of the "pros" here is appreciated and admired, a new light can sometimes be the innovation we are looking for.

Did you guys ever think that if everyone went back and looked for all their answers there would be no forum?

Since this thread has gone from one subject to many others, I'd like to remind you of what the original said...not a word about repeated questions, not a word about searching for answers! Just bumping" every two or three minutes (some as little as one minute)...so in case you've forgotten in all the discussion here's the original post:

"I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but lately I've been seeing threads being "bumped" as little as 2 or 3 minutes after they are posted. If you read a post and cannot give an answer or help, leave it alone for a while, if it doesn't get any reply for a few hours, then bump it so somebody will see it and hopefully help out.

You know, if you are watching a subject yourself, you get a notice that there is a new post, you go to check it and all it is is "bump" it is kind of annoying, as it probably is to the original poster, so give the thread a chance, somebody is usually pretty quick to help, and if nobody does, then give it some help.

Heath recently posted this in answer to a slightly different question in this thread : http://www.cakecentral.com/cak.....tml#431411

Janice"

I stand behind my original post...there is no need to "bump" anything every few minutes. Janice

I agree with a poster that said they should have on page a list of do's and don'ts..lol

Yesterday I watched someone bump their post 3 times and each time it was less than a minute between BUMPS.

Now..THAT is truly ridiculous.

It wasn't an emergency eighter....it was just a question the poster wanted answered, and I guess we weren't johnny on the spot!

Just a thought here.... What if on the home page where the "Latest Forum Topics" are, if there were more listed than the 5 topics at a time. If there were maybe 10 instead. This site is so big and has soooo many members, that is one reason that the topics move so fast. Maybe your question might be listed up front longer than the couple minutes that it is now. Then people will not be in such a hurry to bump it.

My sitting on the computer for all of ten minutes at the shop is no indication of my business being busy or slow. I am not a machine and I do take the occassional break, I'm human just like the rest of you.

You all make fun of your addiction to cake central, well, I also fall victim to that "ADDICTION".

icon_evil.gif

and..this was late in the evening, while I was home and looking through the galleries...I always come back to the home page to see if there are any new pics posted.

I don't have the time to go SEARCHING through the site to answer each and every post...I spend a few minutes reading off the home page, and I noticed this particular subject there each and every time, marked with a reply and from the same author...curiosity got the best of me, and when I went in to look at the message...it was like that because the person that posted kept bumping it...

Does that answer YOUR question as to WHY I was online and noticed this event???

Geez...settle down....it was a joke. You say stuff all the time followed by sowwy...and didn't mean to piss you off...or just stating my opinion.

I most definately can take a joke..and a lot of times I DO have to qualify my opinion with an apology, because its NOT the answer SOMEONE wants to hear. I don't HAND HOLD and it does irk me that if I don't apologize before hand someone is going to ream me out for expressing an unpopular opinion.

But, what you implied, even softening the blow with a laughing face was that I had nothing better to do than sit in front of the computer and watch the treads being posted.

(..Actually I was going to PM you...and this may be something that should be taken care of privately, but I'm a little tired of being singled out,...be it because of my opinions and how I wish to express them or the kind of cake that I do...or even my STUPID AVITAR that SOME people have decided to "crusade" about...)

This has nothing to do with YOU, ME or the WALL...I was posting an aggreement with JANICE, and HER opinion. I DID, unfortunately and without meaning to...highjacked her thread and tried to inject a little humor so it wouldn't get locked or heated...

Then when she restated her initial message, I realized that I WAS WRONG, it WAS a GOOD issue to bring up and discuss and I tried to support her opinion by posting a personal observation.

If you chose to interpret that as to what I do with my time...then Ok, that's your opinion. LET'S just leave it at that, let's just leave it here, and let's just leave it alone.

I still stand by my post, and support Janice in her thoughts, observation and comment...

I will add this...

""If you agree to take on a project that is more than you can handle, by all means, come to the forums and post your questions and concerns; but you must also realize that at the time you post, there MAY be NO ONE on that can answer your questions. IT doesn't mean that you're being ignored or that no one is taking your concern seriously. It may be that the answer to your question is NOT known at that time.

Sometimes the questions that arise at the last minute are questions that pop up because of poor planning or poor judgement, and you may feel that you are having a crisis on your hands and come here to see if anyone with similar experiences can bail you out of your predicament...a sound judgement call on your part....

But...if EVERY cake you do is becoming an "EMERGENCY" and you have to constantly bump your posts...it could be...because we don't post the RIGHT QUESTION!!

This has happened, even to me a few times, my advise is to...maybe REPHRASE your question...add more details???

Thank you for your time""

" SPEAKING IN GENERAL" This is what I hate about CC. If you feel like you need to bump your own post or someone elses, do it, if not, don't. I hardly ever go to the forum page. If it's not on the home page, I really don't look at it. If something annoys you, keep it to yourself, this site is to help people, not make them feel bad for needing it.
It's always somehting with you people!!!!!! Who are you, speaking in general, to determine what's ridiculous! This topic should be closed!
BTW respond if you like, but I will not reply and keep this topic going.

Oh, my goodness! Bump or don't bump who cares? I come on here to relax, learn, and share with other people what little knowledge I have in the cake area! We all have the ability to read a post or skip over it. No use having a stroke over something as simple as to bump or not to bump. Life is too short. IMO!

Seriously, some of these comments need to be in a PM.

I haven't been a member very long, but have seen more negative or closed threads in the last few weeks. It's really not enjoying for the rest of us to read other people's arguments. Well, at least not for me anyway.

If you feel someone offended you either by accident or on purpose, please just send them a PM and handle it that way... a lot more good would probably come of it that way anyway. icon_smile.gif

Thank you, RisqueBusiness, for your support, I appreciate your speaking up! Sorry you got jumped too!

Sweetinspirations, on your suggestion, I believe if you will go read the thread containing Heath's recent post, you will find an answer to that. Here it is again:

Heath recently posted this in answer to a slightly different question in this thread : http://www.cakecentral.com/cak.....tml#431411

Oh, and as another little tidbit of information, that "unanswered post" section...if the post keeps getting "bumped" it is no longer unanswered and therefore is no longer on that list and may have lost a chance to be answered.
