Going through this now with my job.
I cry to/from work.
I am praying that this either get worked out or the money be found to get licensed and get baking legally (can't bake for $$ until then because I have the health department watching me).
I can't take much more of missing church and never seeing my family.
We need the $$$ desperately & they know they have me in a win/loose situation.
Here's a big hug from me to you, CarolynGwen. I've been there.
A few years ago, DH was let go from his job and the post given to the big boss' kiss-a$$ golfing buddy. I worked for the same company. ![]()
Among the reasons given? He took some time off at what they considered inopportune times ... for our son's birth and open-heart surgery five months later.
This is time he'd saved and had coming. And, oh, he wouldn't let them treat his employees like resources to use up and throw out. Go figure.
And because we needed the money and the health benefits, I had to keep going to work day after day to this #&$#$^ place. I cried every day ... on the way to work. Darned if I'd let them see me upset there.
Today, I'm still with that company ... but I've outwaited most of the awful people and things are much, much better.
DH has another job ... one that has respect for its employees and a good family policy. He's much happier.
Hang in there. Things can and will get better.
Well excuse me all to he**, b**ch! I thought you asked ME a question!
Great! Now I have to go find something to wipe the Pepsi spray off my screen. ![]()

I just have to say that I do not understand why when HL has a big sale (last October 50% off Wilton products) they never have anything on the shelf??? I got there at 9:00 Monday morning when they opened the door! It seems like they empty the shelves and put everything in back before the sale. It drives me NUTS!!!
Well, I'm jumping into this pond with my 2 cents worth of opinion and information. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as I rarely experience bad customer service and do you know why? Because there are very few people in the stores to help you anymore and those that are at the cash register know NOTHING about what they offer or sell!!
I am a waitress at a very busy touristy place in northern IN that can serve up to 1000 people at a time and although the family that owns this place is very well off, I get paid a measly $2.26 per hour and HAVE TO depend on the customer to pay my bills! It sucks!! BUT I love waitressing and even if I got $8 per hour plus tips, I would give great cutomer service because that is what I would want if I were the one sitting down to a meal. In the 3 years I've been here, I've only had 2 negative comments regarding the service I gave and both were from people that God Himself could not have pleased. On a very busy day, I am running nonstop for 5-10 hours, no breaks and sometimes can't even get to the bathroom. On top of serving the customer, I am expected to stock the wait-station, pie counter, salad prep area and take busser carts to the dishwasher. No matter that my feet and back are killing me, I still WANT to give you the best possible service I can because you deserve it and I depend on your tips to pay my bills even though the salaried family member manager thinks we waitstaff should not be concerned about what we make in tips as we are there to give the customer a pleasant experience in the country!
Now that I've had a chance to read the whole thread... ![]()
I've been on both sides and poor customer service is a major pet peeve of mine. I know how hard it is to be nice to everyone all of the time...especially the ones who come in thinking they own you because they are "paying your wages". I've been called everything...my favorite was "incompetent heifer". If the old fart called you an inadequate young cow simply because he didn't want his vodka bagged (seriously, that's what it was), then HE has the issue and taking it out on the next customer will benefit no one. Why is that so hard for some people to understand?
The employees who are just nasty, sour, hateful, or know-it-all-ish to everyone, are the ones I will report. That really chaps my @$$ and I think that employers need to know what they have working for them. PP's are right. Tipping is not a requirement. Treat me right and you will be rewarded. I try not to get snotty with servers though. These are people who are handling my food. I was a server once and I saw things that made me NOT eat out for over two years. I have been known to leave a little "note" about stinky attitudes on the table in place of a tip. You know, so they can't spit in my iced tea or spray my salad with Lysol. (I've seen it happen...and yep, I reported them too. lol)
On the flip side. I think everyone should be required to work through one Christmas season at walmart. That would be an eye-opening experience for many, I believe. Or...better yet...cold and flu season in a pharmacy. No, not the front counter selling greeting cards, candy bars and booze.... The actual pharmacy. Now THOSE people take some heat from customers (some doctors and a LOT of nurses too!). ![]()
All I can say about the HL cash registers is that I know how expensive it would be to computerize them. A regular cash register costs about $300-$600 and a Point-of-Sale system can cost $20,000+ for one store plus the cost of software updates, user licensing fees, maintenance fees and an IT guy to coordinate them all. I can only imagine what the costs would be for a nationwide chain.
But they are a big chain and surely they should be able to set aside enough profits to invest in a system, it's not like they are a small mom-n-pop shop struggling to get by. It sure would improve inventory control. I wish we could afford a system where I work, but there just is no money for it.
I agree 110%!! I have thought this many times when I go in my Hobby Lobby. They used to be a little mom and pop ages ago, but why dont they upgrade now? It must be that their CEO or COO is frugal or afraid of new technology. Maybe we should have this person stand in a long HL line, behind a woman with a huge bunch of artifical flowers, each a different stem
Oooooh.....I stood in line behind her yesterday and she had a bazillion Christmas wreaths too!!!

Went to HL today. I'm such an idiot that I didn't read that you can only use the coupon on regular priced items. I was going to use it on a $4.99 Xmas ornament but it was already 40% off. So I said, "Well, just use it on the hair ornament (it was $2.99). She said, "Well, I could use it on this set of tablets." Yeah, sure. I really want to use it on a $l.99 item. I told her that I would rather use it on the $2.99 item. Guess she thought I was a huge idiot. ![]()
Went to Steak and Shake and the waitress kept hanging over us for our order. I told her that I hadn't been there in years and could she please give us a few minutes to look at the menu. Two minutes and she's back. I finally figured out that they were breaking in new waiters and waitresses. I obviously picked a bad day to stop there. ![]()
Went to Sam's Club and got wonderful service. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
