I know it's not award winning or anything like that, but I just completed my very first real fondant figure -- Flounder from The Little Mermaid. I'm doing a princess cake this weekend, and they wanted flounder in the pool with Ariel. I wasn't going to even try to make him as a figure this way, but then I thought I'd give it a whirl -- I am so happy with the results! This is something I've been wanting to try for some time now, but I've been nervous about it. I'm so glad I tried it. Even though Flounder won't be to scale, my friend is really happy with it. I will post a pic of the cake when it's finished. (Wish me luck on my first attempt at Cinderella's carriage!) I just wanted to share. icon_biggrin.gif

He's great! You should definitely upload him to your photos so he's in the sugar/marzipan/gumpaste figures gallery. I am sure he would inspire others (like me!)

You have a right to be proud! It looks great!!! Keep up the good work. BTW If you can do this, I don't think you'll have any real problems with the Cinderella carriage.

Thanks everyone for all the comments and encouragement. I tried really hard, and I still can't believe I made something that actually looks like a face -- well, okay a cartoon's face, but still a face!

I hadn't thought about uploading him to the marzipan, figures gallery -- I'll have to do that. Thanks for the reminder -- actually didn't know there was a place for that!

One thing I have learned is a totally new appreciation for the cake challenges on tv -- I mean it took me 2-3 hours to do this one piece. This and an iced cake is about all I'd accomplish on one of those challenges. Boy are those people amazing!

I think after you've had as many years experience as they have, you would do just fine. I doubt any of them got theirs finished that quickly on their very first one either.

You did a fabulous job! I'm quite impressed. I haven't been brave enough to try one yet.. heh

Thanks again everyone! Here's a pic of the cake that I ended up using Flounder on --- they loved the outcome, and I was really proud of it too. I really appreciate having a place to post my things where there are people who can give me feedback and who love cake decorating as much as I do!
