I agree this is a great post. I have to say that I usually only get one or two comments on my pictures normally. I was starting to think it was just me until this post came along.

I usually have 0-3 comments on a cake. Which is why I'm so glad this thread was started, I was feeling bad thinking no one liked my cakes!

Are you sure? I just left a comment, it showed on that page, but I didn't check if appears in the photo in the "gallery".
I am pretty computer-challenged, so you may be right!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

jesaluve in response to your question on my quilting...no it wasn't a mat. it was done the hard way - figuring out the right angle and making a template. It's deep becuse there was a really thick layer of bc under the fondant...request of the bride...I had to be careful not to poke through and have icing squirt out though icon_smile.gif

Looks good to me the thing i like about our cakes thats all the CCers here is that we take the time and pour or heart and soul into them cant get that at wal-mart or anyother dept store, or some bakerys like at food city or food lion---all of them are frozen and the icing is in a big bucket, not homemade like ours, glad i found this website its helped me lots, keep on keeping on lots of baking to ya

Hi,

Great thread! I've always wondered if I don't download at the right time or if my cakes and cookies just aren't that good. The majority of my pictures get around 100 views or less (even over a year). Therefore, I remove them often. I know there are hundreds of thousands of pictures on this site, so I don't want to clutter it even more.

I'll definitely check out all of your cakes you feel are underviewed! icon_smile.gif

Here's a cake that I really liked, but only got one comment and about 80 views:

Here are two of my cakes that didn't get much interest. I have no idea why people didn't like them, because I just loved them. The first one I made to look like my daughter's baby dress. The second one was for my grandma's 75th birthday, and was a TON of work.

Everyone on here is so talented!! I love this thread! Most of my cakes have been uploaded at busy times...many of them never made it to the home page at all so some don't have comments...But these two are my favorites!!

This is a cake I made for my daughter...she LOVES the Chipmunks and I wanted to try a FBCT (my second attempt) so I made this for her.

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=617423

The second is a Jets cake I made for my brother's birthday....I worked so hard on it and was very proud when I was finished...and he loved it which made all the hard work worth it!!

I am usually pretty happy with the amount of views and saves I get (and that is why I have not posted any of mine). Sometimes one that I do doesnt get the attention I *hoped* it would either here or from family/friends whatever. But usually after a few weeks or months goes by they continue to get views. I think when you do a cake that people seem to like, they will often go into your gallery to look at more of your cakes and might see some of the "un noticed" ones.

Here are a few things though that I think help get your cakes noticed:
1. post in the forum (I am not talking about your cakes necessarily) but ask questions and answer them. People are always checking out user galleries when they see someone posting in the forums.

2. Don't post them when it is super busy over the weekend. In a flash they are buried beneath a bunch of newer cakes!

3. I think a cake is much more interesting to comment on when the person who has uploaded it has a description or a story to go along with it! I am much more likely to comment if the cake somehow "means something"

4. make sure you post them in the right gallery.

5. Make sure you use correct key words so people are able to search for that particular cake.

6. Link your designs to forums where people are asking for help with a design that you have already created.

7. Be patient

She just means that some people are posting their pictures into this thread (not linking them to the gallery). If you want comments under your photo a person needs to comment on the "gallery" picture, not in this thread.

Here are a few more of mine if anyone is as addicted to looking at this thread as I am! The first one I made for an auction. The second was for DD's teacher (we gave her the cake and an african violet.) The jukebox was for my mom to take to a dance. She loved it. Thanks for looking and for any feedback.

This is my best cake, IMHO. A lot of views, but not a lot of comments. This polar bear and penguin picture really took me a lot of time. I only charged $25 for this cake, and realized when I was finished that I way undercharged!

Thanks for looking.

Not a dumb question at all - a thread is just all of the responses to any given topic. Your question and my answer become part of the thread (discussion) about cakes that we feel haven't gotten a lot of attention.

Oh and I have one more recommendation for getting your cakes noticed!

A nice photo! If they are dark or blury or tiny they just arent shown at their best. I am by no means a professional photographer, but i try to put a little effort into them looking nice. Remove the clutter, have it on a nice plain table cloth, perhaps with a backdrop or drape behind. I like mine in natural light without a flash in a well lit area. I have to use a tripod to avoid the shake. But they usually turn out pretty. It really will make a lot of difference!
