Ok so I've searched the site and I've searched the forums and I've searched the articles and I can't find anything on Starburst Roses....
Can anyone give me a DETAILED walk through with pics???? I bought two packages of starbursts tonight and yelled at hubby when he opened them lol had to go buy two more. He asked what I was going to do with them if they weren't to be eaten and I explained to him I was going to try to make starburst roses since they ate all the damn tootsie rolls lmao...
Well he wants to see how I'm going to do this... and I need the "tutorial" to show me how to do it again lol... I've lost it... and now he doesn't believe me lol..
Can anyone help?? TIA!
to my knowledge, you can follow the instructions for making a fondant or gumpaste rose... you just use the starbursts instead... break off smaller pieces and knead them till soft and pliable, then mold like usual

Anyone else??? Jan where are you with your list of links hun? lol
See if this helps: http://www.craftzine.com/blog/archive/2006/11/8.html
OMG! You are a life saver! hmmm another candy lol.. Anyway now I can prove I'm not lying lol
Welp I just sat here and tried to do them and it didn't quite turn out right lol.... it's a very funny looking tie dyed flower of some sort.... does look like a flower but didn't turn out like hers did lol Going to have to practice ALOT! lol Sending this one to work with hubby so he has some candy when he's feeling tired lol (working 10 hour days lol)
O.M.Goodies, I had planned to try making the Tootsie Roll ones myself and had a couple of the larger ones which I forbade my kids and DH from eating, but of course they still disappeared. The theory is that my sister-in-law ate them (even though I purposely reprimanded my kids in front of her and she didn't admit to anything). Oh well. Next time I'll buy a bag and hide it in my bedroom instead of leaving them in the kitchen.
Cool!! I'm glad I looked at this! I don't know if I could stop eating the tootsie rolls either! LOL ![]()
I think I'm going to pick up a bag of tootsie rolls and a bag of Hershey's Kisses this weekend and hide them in my cake decorating kit lol. That way I can try both my roses without anyone touching stuff lol

Thanks! It was fun! Seems like they'd be pretty on a little girl's cake or something. I haven't had the opportunity to really use them on a real cake though.
I've used fruit snacks one or two times though if I need something transclucent...(like the buttons on an xbox controller) funny though of course if you need a certain color you end up having to open two or three packages just to find it. haha.
My method for Starburst roses: place a jelly bean longwise on the end of a small skewer. Microwave candy for no more than 6 seconds. Cut each piece of candy into 4 pieces. Flatten each piece and shape into a petal shape. Wrap the first petal around the jelly bean, then follow with each other petal, overlapping each, until the rose is the desired size. Shape and curl your petals as needed. You will need to work fairly quickly, or keep your petals under saran wrap or some other container to keep them from drying out too soon. The thinner you can make the petals, the better. I run mine through my pasta maker. The pieces don't have to be uniform. Just let your imagination flow with them and you will have beautiful roses. I have not taken many pictures since I have really perfected the art a bit better, but I do have pictures of the very first ones I ever made in the gallery. The more you make, the better they get and they can really be very pretty. In order to prove they are candy, you sometmes just have to hand one over and tell them to chew it up! I never make buttercream roses anymore.
Hope this helps a bit. I do Tootsie rolls the same way

I took a look at both photos and I have to say yall are great lol. I figured out what my problem was lol I was making my petals too thick... just smooshing it around in my fingers didn't get it thin enough... thanks for the tips I'll try again today ![]()

I took starburst candies, microwaved until soft and pliable, rolled them out and cut with the petal cutter from my gumpaste kit, and assembled them as you would a fondant rose. They are SO tasty!
