I just spent an hour on this thread..and wish I could see all the pics, but am on dial up and it is taking forever! Awesome work that I have seen so far.
I do tons of sheetcakes since it is the easiest for most people. I have a gazillion pics in my album...feel free to peruse!
There are a few that I am particularly proud of...thanks for looking..
Love this thread and all the wonderful cakes!!! I have done my fair share of sheet cakes as that's mainly what's ordered for birthday parties in my area and out of MY cakes I think my favorite is my wrestling ring cake

Edited to add in that since I made two layers seperatly I didn't torte it but I still put buttercream filling it the middle to hold the layers together... is this still considered a sheet cake? lol
Here's a favorite of mine....I made it for a gift for the birthday girl.

You guys have given me so many new favs to shoot for!!!
I've been reading this post ALL DAY! I've seen some of the most beautiful cakes and they've given me so many new ideas! Now I just need more people to order them Here are a couple of favorites of my own. I'm just going to attach them since I forgot to copy the link and my computer is slow.
BTW - I tried to look up how to BUY or pay for the rights to use Disney images on cakes...Can't find anything. Heck, if I were rich I would buy the rights and make "coloring page" cakes all day. I guess I'll have to go another route for now (until i'm filthy rich). For now, all the ones I've made and make are for friends, family, etc. But if anyone has any info on such things, let me know!
Okay here is my very first sheet cake....hope ya 'all like it. And keeping with the original post, I don't think it is that boring.

YOUR FIRST??? OH MY! THAT CAKE IS OUTRAGEOUS! I LOVE IT.
These are all such great cakes! Here are my latest two cakes (both full sheets), from this weekend! I am trying to improve my skills and am trying to learn new airbrushing techniques.
Tiger (15x22" sheet)
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=838913
Deer (18x24" sheet)
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=842023
They are both airbrushed, using a stencil, with hand-painted accents. (The deer is also highlighted with buttercream.) The deer could very well be my favorite cake I've EVER done!
Okay dokay folks, Woole2 reminded me that I should put instructions for watching this topic instead of adding the Save comment to help newbies and others who don't know about this wonderful feature and to watch this topic in the future.....
Go to the bottom of the thread where the "new topic, post reply and print topic" are located on the lefthand side. Under "Goto page"......there is a red "Watch this topic for replies."
Just hit that red dohicky and walla, your connected to the thread without bogging down the thread with Saves.....
HTH everyone
Your welcome Woole2.
Now here is my new sheet cake #2 ever (for sheet,) what do you all think of it....

As with any medium you just need to think it out side the box and watch out!
Not to mention we have the best talents on CC that I have ever seen, several people could rival some of those well known names we see on T.V and the cake & sugar shows!
And to top it off we have the best decorators with the best sharing and caring attitudes of any where I have been.
here's another one by Thahn Thahn. Her works amazes me every time.

You are all amazing! CakeCentral is amazing! I am in awe of the talent of so many decorators here. I am like a child in a candystore when I look through the galleries. I feel inferior in so many ways.
It is difficult not to be insulted by the person who said sheet cakes are boring and unimaginative. Sheetcakes are a blank canvas on which to do my art. Out of a total of almost 2000 cakes I have done, probably half of my business is sheet cakes. The other half is character cakes. I have done ONE tiered wedding cake.
Sheet cakes are my preference because it usually allows me to be more creative. I just looked on my website and did a search for "sheet" and got 55 pages with 655 sheetcakes total. Some are better than others, and some, to me, are the best cakes I have ever done in my life.
Some are original art, and some are artwork copied from papergoods for a party. Some have toys/toppers, and some have plastic character facemakers. There are a couple of edible image cakes in the search, but I don't do that anymore...my clients prefer I decorate by hand.
ALL of my frosting art is freehand. And I have never even touched fondant.
Have a look for yourself! Please be kind

Note: Many of the pictures are "soft" because they were scanned, before I went digital.
I think when this thread was first started I wasn't yet a member here. I love sheet cakes. I like doing 3 D drawings...and I also like simple figure piping. A nice border which goes with the design on the cake is the finale. Here are a couple of examples of what I do on sheet cakes. This first one, the picture is kind of small I know...it is all I have of that cake.

All the sheet cakes posted have been amazing! My eyes are about to pop out from looking at of them. Here is a Texas size sheet cake I made for a group of piano students going to perform at the Texas State Music Teachers Convention. It's kinda hard to see, but there is a stage down the back side of the cake with five chocolate grand pianos and benches. It was about 100 degrees that day and the pianos didn't last long ( but I had plenty of people offer to help by eating them quickly!)
Can't wait to try some of the great ideas ya'll have given me!
This was a really nice thread to look at, I do alot of sheet cakes mainly because I haven't bought alot of pans yet but also the request for sheet cakes is high for me. So much talent here I love to see the differnt ideas people have. Thanks for all the sharing I really enjoyed this thread! Here is one of mine I wasn't sure how to attach more than one, but you can go under my gallery for other ideas too.
This is one of my own favorite sheet cakes.

Here is another one of my favorite sheet cakes. This one was easy to do and probably the fastest I have ever done a sheet.

Beautiful cake butternut! I love it. I have yet to try the ribboning like that on the sides of cakes, is it hard or any tips you can give?

Thank you so much. Actually the swags on the sides were so easy to make. Trust me, otherwise, I couldn't have done it I simply used the swag marker and just pressed it very lightly into the icing to leave a pattern. Then I used tip 103 to do the ruffle. On top of the ruffle, I used tip 13 for the zigzag. Thanks again!!
wow...its going to take me days to get through all these pics...they are amazing so far! I have saved so many of them already into my favorites! Here are a few of mine if you want to check them out...
