Hi everyone, I have been decorating cakes for 5 years, and did my first wedding cake last year. I got my business license, and approval from dept. of agriculture 2 months ago. Well, I have my first wedding consultation with a bride and her groom next Thursday. I am nervous enough with the two of them there, but now she is bringing her mom and dad along too. That is fine, but I am a little shy when it comes to talking to people. I know I will be fine once I get used to it, but 4 people at once.
I want to make them feel comfortable, and not just about the sale. Does anyone have any pointers on how I can achieve this? Thanks for any imput.
Michele

Are they comming to your home? I have them at my home. I try and put out a nice table cloth, with nice plates, napkin, etc...I offer them a drink..chit chat..make them feel like they are guests in my home, and the cakes are just a added plus.....Talk about the wedding planning, see if they are getting excited, etc....
Make some small talk, then say..well are we hungry yet/ Lets go try some cakes...
You will do great! ![]()
Here's a pretty comprehensive thread on conducting tastings or bookings:

If you scroll down, the conducting the tasting threads are multi-linked, so there's a wealth of information....using cake sketch templates to make immediate designs based on bride's description, scheduling, what to serve, etc.
