I made a bridal shower cake this past weekend, and the buttercream icing (made with all shortening) marked my cake board. I didn't wrap the 10 inch (round) board because I didn't know how! Any tips or instructions? What should I wrap the boards with? Parchment paper, wax paper, foil?

Doug's links will probably tell you everything you need to know, but here's my 2 cents, anyhow...
As a hobbyist, my quick and easy (and cheap) solution is Reynold's Freezer paper. I think it looks nicer than foil and doesn't tear. Of course, if I were in business, I'm sure I'd choose a more artistic option, but this works for me.
Whoo Hoo, Doug started a super thread ![]()
Here's the link to the contact paper thread:

Thanks. I should have done a search before posting my questions. Thanks again.
Tiptop's top tip, buy cake drums! You can cover them with fondant if ya want or leave plain, anything bigger than 8' drum usually can hold a 1/2 ribbon around the side. You can sharpen your cake dowels and drive through the drum also and your cake doesn't move. They are cost more than the flimsy cardboard but well worth the money!
And they look professional.
I recently made a teddy bear cake for my son's one year birthday. I had some cut polka dot tissue paper that happened to match the cake colors, so I covered my board with the tissue paper and then covered that with wax paper. It turned out really cute, and because it was so cote I didn't even cut my board to the shape of cake but left as is. Jodie
If you buy the Sam's cake boards, they are already waxed and ready to go!! Last fall somebody on CC, posted about the great cost and I have been using them ever since!! And no wrapping the cake board. Now I only cover them if it is something special. Plus, I have discovered the cake drums too. They are wonderful and they give your cake a very nice presentation.
