I am making my daughters birthday cake today and am making a 9x13. My sister told me she always makes 2 and places them on top of eachother to make a bigger cake. Do any of you do this? I used the Magic Line 9x13.

Thanks

I would bake 2 layers - just makes for a nicer look. icon_smile.gif

make sure to use 1 or 2 flower nails to eliviate the Hump of your cake and then there is also less to take off to even out.
You can also bake each cake a different flavor, everyone get a little of both or they can choose to leave it.

Good Luck.

I use 2 mixes in my 2" Magic Line pan. My cake is about 2". I trim off the dome and flip it over onto my board. Turns out great.

Since a 9 x 13 x 2 is a sheet, I only use one. I either use them as a base or just a simple cake. I tort and fill so its a little bit higher than 2 inches.

One time I did one for Bob the Builder and used two sheet cake and it looked huge!!!

I'm a newbie to the forum section so I hope I am doing this right. I just recently bought the Wilton Decorator Preferred 9x13x2 pan and I use 2 cake mixes in it and I like the results. Very nicely shaped for decorating.

I have not done this with a 9 x 13 but I have done several 2-layered 11 x 15's and 12 x 18's. They turn out really nice. thumbs_up.gif

How many layers to use depends on how many servings you wanticon_smile.gif
Figure 12-15 servings per cake mix. For a 9x13x2 pan I use 1 1/2 mixes (or 1 mix w/the extender recipe) so that should give you 24 servings.

If you need more servings than use 2 layers which will give you something like 48-50 servings.
A 2 layer cake should be 4" tall. You cut it into 1"x2"x4" slices.
A single layer cake (2" tall) is usually served in 2"x2"x2" pieces.
Either way it is the exact same amount of cakeicon_smile.gif
