On today's Oprah show she is having Gayle go find America's best cake. Just wanted to pass along. Going to have DH tape for me. ![]()
how funny I signed in this morning with the intention of sharing ..but you beat me to the punch! ...lol
Then, I'd better tidy up my kitchen!!! hahahaha
I'm disappointed. I went on her website to see where Gayle went. Expensive cakes that don't look very pretty. Interesting recipies but not too impressed with the presentation. Please fill me in on how you ladies liked the show. I won't be home to actually watch it....
I don't think gayle tried very hard. I know a lot better bakeries like Honey Bear in Seattle....
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE? I'm going to California in Sept and would love to go somewhere really cool.
I just turned it on and she is at Shaq's house.....eating cake. ugly cake too!!!
I turned it back off....
..anybody get Rachael's recipes for those chocolate cups?
no...but amI wrong abotu she didnt cook those?? Didnt she put an egg in it??
Ok, folks. I had two doctor's appointments today, and I do not normally watch Oprah (I like her, I just do not have the time).
Would someone please enlighten me as to:
Who is Gayle?
What chocolate cups did Rachel make (are we talking Rachel Ray?).
Was the best cake show on today, or not?
You can PM me instead, if you want. I don't want to tie up the thread with explanations.
Thanks Bunches -

Here's the recipe:
Chocolate Cups with Whipped Cream
This is a super-fast, easy knockoff of the more complicated Chocolate Pot de Creme.
Add to blender:
1 c semi-sweet choc chips
1 egg
2 Tbsp sugar
Dash of salt
1 Tbsp liquor or liqueur of choice
Blend on low while streaming in 2/3 c. of "screaming hot boiling" milk (LOL, Rachel's words).
When all the chocolate has melted, stop blending. Pour into 4 demitasse cups and chill for 30 minutes. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a sprig of mint.
Yeah, major thumbs down. Having to watch Oprah is bad enough, but having to watch her assistant (??) Gayle try to act interesting is worse. The cakes weren't impressive either, but the show was about flavors, not decorating.
I'm hungry now, though. LOL The cakes looked delicious!
When I read the thread this morning, I expected that the segment would be about taste, not decorating. I was taught by a very well-known decorator that you can decorate the daylights out of a cake, but if it doesn't taste good, it's not a good cake, and that client would never come back, nor recommend you to anyone else.

Gayle is like a mini me Oprah. lol At least, she tries to be. I believe she is also the editor-in-chief for the O magazine. I guess I'd take care of my best friend too if I was in Oprah's shoes.
After reading your comments, sounds like I didn't miss too much.
it was more an excuse to stuff as many celebrities as possible into a show, rather than about the cake at all.
The only good part was that choc. cup recipe.
Even Oprah looked bored through the show...
I have to agree. I am an Oprah fan and never miss her show but this was not her best work! She did look bored. The surprise of her dad being on there and the surprise of visiting her childhood home were just not too exciting, even to Oprah.
Best part of the show was the interview with Shaq. Even he seemed bored with the cake business. I'm sure they could have found much better cakes to sample. They should have looked on Cake Central, eh girls? ![]()
Diane
I found a link to the recipe on Oprah's website. It looks like it's 2 TBSP of Hazelnut liqueur or dark rum. The recipe posted above shows only 1 TBSP Liqueur.
