I am finally taking gumpaste classes. I had to wait about 3 months before the class was offered. The classroom is so dry that my rosebud ended up with cracked edges. I worked with the same gumpaste today at home and did not have any problem with it.
I uploaded pictures of my first gumpaste flowers. I still have a lot of work to do to perfect them but so far I love the class. My instructor is pretty cool too.
Here is one of my roses. The other pictures are in the gallery/ my album if you want to have a look at them.
those look great to me. it took me about 4 times to get a rose that looked that good
Thanks Smashcakes.
Oopsie, SQC Ma I forgot to tell you I posted photos to my album LOL... Well new pics are posted. LOL... ![]()

He is really cute reminds me of the illustration of Dick Whittington's cat.
So how did he get his name? Those Puffy cheeks? LOL...
Thank you Crimsicle. It sure is.
Oh I can't wait to get to class. I think we do the Calla lilly today. So I will have more gumpaste flowers to post.
I know the feeling cake princess. I just finished my sugarcraft course on Saturday. Callas are very easy in comparison.... should be lots of fun.
Gorgeous!!
Lucky you, three months!! I've been waiting for a year!! ![]()

Someone from the office saw pictures of my Gumpaste Roses and she fell in love with them. She wants to know if i can make her a bouquet of roses for a bridal shower she is attending next month.
I told her I would get back to her with the prices. Anyone have any idea what to charge?

Thanks Purple. LOL... I am impatient.
Well done, don't worry about the edges cracking a bit. Look at a real rose and take in their cracks, no one flower is perfect. I know its hard to not want to perfect them but when you make a flower you try to make it as close to life as possible. Thats the trick.
Not sure what method you are being taught but if you are using a balling tool to thin the outer part of the petal, use the balling tool half on the edge half on your work surface and roll inwards to thin, not outwards from the inside to the outer edge of the petal. This also causes cracking.
Hugs Ma

The thinning was not the issue. The room was really dry. I used the same gumpaste at home and did not have an issue with it.
Sorry, that was in response to Boring's post.

Hi boring,
Because you mentioned the cracking in your post. I wasn't sure if you had this experience too and was just pointing out that this is a cause of cracking too.

I went to my last class on Monday night and I Was asking my instructor how much to charge per rose. Well my old Wilton Instuctor who is currently taking the class came in to the class room. So she comes over to look and her jaw dropped. When she managed to pick it up she looked at me and said, "Those roses are just sick!!!!!" So I asked her, " sick good or sick bad?"
Well they turned out to be sick good. She was amazed that my roses came out looking better than hers did. So we all had a good chuckle about it.
