Well, I wanted to post the photos yesterday but I was just plain exhausted.
I have to thank each and every one of you who helped me figure out how to make this cake for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I don't know if you remember, but this was for a party at a restaurant that didn't want any home baked cakes brought in. I ended up ordering the cake from a bakery without any icing and did all the icing and decorating myself. Needless to say, the restaurant never asked a single question about it -- just cut it and served it. No problem. Woo-hoo!
This was only like my 6th decorated cake ever and the first time I ever made gumpaste roses, cornelli lace or swiss dots. I was very pleased with how it came together. I could not have done it without you!!!!!!!!!
There is a close-up of the roses in my photos as well as a clearer photo of the cake, but if you don't want to go into my photos, here is a picture of the finished product:
I think that it looks wonderful!
You did a great job!!
when restaurants say they dont want home baked cakes...i figure, as long as it's in a cake box..how are they going to know where it's from??
if they dont want outside cakes b/c they make there own, that's another thing, but whe they say no home baked cakes..no prob...just throw it in a box..they'll never know
Elegant cake -- fabulous!!! And WOW, your cornelli lace is awesome. ![]()
Many of us were following the tale of the recalcitrant restaurant, and without a doubt you came up with the best possible solution. Thanks bunches for posting and letting us all know how it turned out!
edit: WOOT! Finally, I'm not a n00b anymore -- officially a "junior" member, WOOHOO!
Thanks so much, everyone, for your kind words! I truly learned so much from the generous people on this website.
I also want to say that the inspiration for this cake came from a cake made by cakemommy, and she graciously answered a bunch of my questions about it.
Next I want to learn how to make buttercream roses, so look out! I'll be asking tons more questions, I'm sure, LOL!
Beautiful! It looks perfect and I bet your parents were very proud also. Congrats on a job well done!
It looks great!! I'm so glad you figured out a way to decorate it yourself! It really looks wonderful!
It is just perfect, I love it! We are so proud of you, what a wonderful cake!
Hugs Squirrelly
All I can say is wow! Elegant and Professional looking! WOW! -Josie
