Karate -
I have read that its the mini-goals are what really help you get through; its very frustrating to have a long term goal that takes a year or more to reach; it is also easy to "slip" more often, because its so far in the future.

I have never heard of SlimQuick, is it OTC? What is it exactly?

Here is a link to one thread but not the one I read yesterday.

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-19617-slim.html

I found it by searching using slim as the word. I still want to find the thread from yesterday.

Hey all you loosers!! icon_biggrin.gif How's everyone doing? Great I hope!

Karate~ I'm glad to hear that your foot is doing better. So glad your back to working out too~ I know it must have been frustrating for you to not be able to work out. My right hip has been aggravating me lately. Don't know why either. Guess it's inflammed. I've had trouble sleeping because of it. If it doesn't stop hurting I guess I'll have to go to the dr. I hope this doesn't slow my workouts down! I have started pushing myself a little harder this week so I'm sure that's the problem. Maybe it will get used to my new work out. I hope. I don't want to slow down!

I hope everyone is doing great!! Hang in there! icon_wink.gif

I want to play along too! I see there are 39 or so pages of 'reading' attached here but ...uuhhh...only got through about 4. Tell me Other than what I saw about being honest about how much you weigh and not saying the three letter 'F' word did any other thread rules come up?

All I know is that everyone needs to be motivating to each other. Other then that I don't think there are any "rules"~ icon_smile.gif I guess just keep everyone up to date & share successes & failures along the way. We all need support every day~ Let me tell you everyone is awesome! Welcome Petitesweet & Cakearoni~

Hey guys, haven't checked in for a while - it's amazing how fast July is going!!! I was 211 yesterday. I've only lost a pound in the last three weeks. That's OK. I haven't exercised and things have been so crazy that who knows what I've been eating!!! No more excuses, right?!?! Seems like I've said that before!!

I've been super busy with cakes and trying to get everything together so I can get inspected for a legal kitchen. Then DH tells me he's seriously considering looking for work in Northern VA. I'm OK with that. We're in southside VA and he's a computer guy for a textile co. Unfortunately, we don't think the company's future looks good. Anyway, if he finds other work somewhere else, we agreed that I wouldn't move with the kids until the school year is finished. Something else on my plate!!!! Anyway, thought I'd get that off my chest since we're not telling anyone until we know something better.

Looks like everyone is losing or at least keeping off the weight - Congrats to you all!!!

I have been working out five to six days a week for 10 weeks now and I will tell you that my scale has barely moved(if at all). icon_mad.gif And i have been working my butt off! icon_cry.gif However, i have lost inches. My jeans that used to be tight are loose in the legs and belly but i bet if i jumped on the scale it wouldn't even have moved. That's annoying but atleast i do see a difference. I weigh approx. 143 and 130 is my pre-kids weight that i am trying to get back to but i'm also working out with weights more and actually have tone or muscle in my arms so maybe that 'weighs' more! I am actually able to fit into my pre-kids jeans so i'm using that as my gauge rather than the scale... damn scale!!! icon_wink.gif

cakearoni & petitesweet Everyone is always welcome in our little weight loss world. We try to keep everyone motivated like tcturtleshell said. If you know of any good web sites or anyother helpfull hints, feel free to share. If you read thru the past posts you will find alot of helpful hints from nutrition to excersizing to just generally feeling good about yourselves. You may also find that any one of us here have the same problems as you do, and there may already be hints tailored to your needs. We weigh in on Thursdays, but as you will see sometimes that day is missed by some, and others already weigh in on another day. We post our weights here, however you dont have to. In general we are here to support and encourage.

well I"ve tried weight watchers, several times over the years actually. My most recent flirt with weight loss was Jenny Craig, for about a year, I did lose around 35 but think Ive put 10 back on.

Long story short; Ive got about 40 more to go...sigh

there are 3 little kids here and I have been known to finish their plates. while we dont drink sugar soda or have chips or other traditional 'junk' at home I think my biggest issue is portion size (although I have a fairly substantial sweet tooth as well)

My 'tip' for today FIBER and specifically a chocolate candy called 'figamajig' which you can buy online. Its pureed figs wrapped in choc. and even though Im not a fig person these are seriously good.

Im looking for other great tips (esp. around portion size!) and great food finds

The best tip I ever heard about portion sizing was to use a smaller plate. You have a "want" to fill your plate; thats fine. Just use a smaller one!

I've been working out and dieting every day, and have only lost 5 lbs.

I drink a SlimFast around noon for lunch, and sometimes after work I have my dinner around 3:30 or 4, or...I just wait until evening and eat a Lean Cuisine or something. Then I work out for 1 - 1.5 hrs, and then I jog for 2 miles. Sometimes I have a V8 and lots of water. Usually, I only consume about 400 calories a day. But still, it's not dropping as fast as I would like.

I've definetly lost fat, because none of my clothes are fitting any more, but the scale is barely moving. I'm convinced it's because I'm so muscular now! The only place I really had a problem with was my tummy...and it's SLOWLY starting to go away. When I flex, my stomach is ROCK HARD. I can't believe it. I haven't had abs like this since I was about 16.

When I was 18, I had to get radiation, which destroyed my thyroid gland. So I'm on synthetic thyroid now, so my weight is much different than it used to be. I used to be a size 1 icon_sad.gif (I'm short, btw).

I don't remember if I was ever a size one! icon_eek.gif
I think I would be happy just to get rid of my belly....which is something I know I have to do but can't find the time nor the motivation to do it.
Anyone know of stomach exercises I can do sitting up...like in an office chair?

Billy Blanks' Boot Camp Ab Workout is really intense, but it's super motivating and I began to see results within a week. You can buy it at Best Buy.

It's 35 min. long, but you could start off with doing half every other day, and gradually work your way up.

If you restrict your calories to below 1200, then your body thinks its starving, and your metabolism drops, and you don't lose. You may want to think about adding a bit more food to your diet; its not healthy.

I got it at Best Buy for about $16.

I went to Gottschalks last week and found the 3 dvd Boot Camp pack w/ the 'billy bands' which add resistance, for $20! They had a sale that day for 15% off, so it was even cheaper!

Mouse - you can try replacing your office chair with a ball. (I guess this depends on your work setting). Sitting on the ball requires you to use your abdominals, so you are constantly using them. Remember, you can't spot reduce, though, so you can have rock hard abs under flab! You gotta do cardio to burn the fat, and some people are more stubborn at the stomach area, so they have to work harder, or smarter, at burning their fat. HTH

I don't if I can do a ball, my back would have a hard time with not be able to have some support behind it.
I will have to check out those videos!

I relate with you m0use about the back. I was doing ab exercises & had to stop because it caused my back to start hurting. Goodness knows I don't need my back to flair up again! I have started jogging, I wonder if that will help the belly area?

Thanks Karate, your so sweet~ If I didn't have my 16 yr old daughter working out with me I don't think I could have gotten this far! Family & friends have supported me big time! I'm sooo blessed to have them & ya'll!!

I think my body is starting to gain muscle which does weigh more than fat so I feel some frustration coming on in the next few weeks. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I'm gonna need ya'll!! thumbs_up.gif I haven't been at this weight in 8 years (or under 200 in 20 years) & that was only for a few months. I want to loose 30 lbs more & then the hardest part (I'm sure) will be maintaining! I'm getting very nervous about that part. I've never maintained for more then 4 months. This time it's different I've changed my lifestyle. The motto at my dr's office is "Eat to Live NOT Live to Eat"!! So if anyone would like to use that please do! That's what we all need to do~

Eat to Live NOT Live to Eat~

I became L.I. out of NOWHERE (it has since passed) and I would use either powdered milk (for some reason I could tolerate that), soy or rice milk, or take a lactaid.

Oh, btw...I use the powdered SlimFast that you make with skim milk, so you can use any kind of low-fat milk replacement with that. I actually put half skim milk and half water in mine though.

Mouse -
What I did when I started out was I sat on the ball for, Oh, say 30 minutes, then switched back to the chair for a while, then back to the ball. You are buliding up your strength and stamina that way; I couldn't do it all day either.
