Twinsline: I bet alot of people on here can relate to this topic. I truly think our husbands want us to do well & thats part of the reason they speak up. And mine always does it in a respectful way, so I don't mind too much. Actually its nice to have honest feedback from him.
Also, he only usually will say something if the problem can be fixed. He knows how much I obsess over every cake & doesn't like to add to the stress. And he won't point anything out after the cake has been picked up...I think he figures I will have a nervous breakdown icon_surprised.gif

I've calmed down alot on my cakes lately, I think maybe because it was taking the fun out of it to worry so much. I still want the cakes to be perect, but I realize that is never going to happen so I just accept it.

But anyway, I think the bear pan turned into the frog would be sooo cute!! I told my husband I wanted to see if I could turn it into Elmo & he said I had way more vision than him because he said he couldn't see it icon_lol.gif

Speaking of DH...Mine actually confessed that when I leave CC up on the computer he looks around abit, AND...He thinks he would like to learn! So the question I have been asking myself is do I put him off because he has fishing/fly tying/and is in a orchestra, and I only have this OR do I give in and share this passion (twice the play money being spent on cake stuff) What is a girl to do???

my husband is very good about if he notices I'm getting too sensitive about it or he is being too critical he backs off. he is always very good about putting it in a very loving "constructive" way....he should its what he does all day at work!!! He always ends every comment with...I'm only telling you because I know you can do it!....and like yours never points out something unrealistic!

I could see the bear being Elmo!!! I've thought about it too!!! icon_biggrin.gif I could see him as cookie monster too!!
The bear pan was the first 3D pan I bought because I could see so many different things to do with it!!

frstech: I'm glad we could entertain you icon_lol.gif I have had such a good time with both these threads.

Twinsline: I'm seriously still laughing about the Aunt ge978...It makes me smile every time I see it.

I like the idea for the sesame street cakes...you are so funny. I just ordered some americolor red so maybe an elmo cake will be an excuse to try it out thumbs_up.gif

I don't know what I would do if my husband didn't eat cake...probably gain about 100 lbs icon_lol.gificon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif !! I have a little shop & I bake cakes for customers & restaurants there. Everyone tells him all the time that he is so lucky to get cake whenever he wants it. He tells them he rarely gets to eat the cakes I bake & he has to drive to the shop if he wants a piece icon_lol.gif

frstech....well then I guess....you really don't have a critic!!! But I guess we always want those things we cant have!!! I can tell you this much....there is a certain time of the month if I make a cake and mine gives his critique ...he gets cake in the face!!! Otherwise its all ok!!

Aunt g978....I'm glad it cracks you up and I'm not just some crazy woman who has nominated someone from a website to be family to my cake....and think its just so damn funny!!!
But I have some bad news for you.....you are now the aunt to bunny cake crumbles!!! all that work of bringing that cake into the world and its first friends in life gobbled him up!!!

I got to thinking the whole reason I started this thread was because I didn't want my kids to be devestated if I pulled the bear from the pan and he was decapitated.......but do you know which part they ate first????
Give you a hint....it wasn't bunny butt or bunny toes!!!

ummmm They also laughed and got the biggest kick of taking his head OFF the body itself!!!

Tell me again why I was so worried about my cake falling apart? Maybe I should stick to making them for other people who eat them faaaaaaaaaar away from me!!!!

NEWTODECORATING: .......I missed your post somehow earlie!!! so sorry!

This is going to sound soooo bad....but I keep doing cookies and cakes to myself....my kids always try to come in ...now don't get me wrong...I have times and cakes I do with them...but if its a "project cake (Mr. Bunny) or a cake for someone I kick them out!!! icon_surprised.gificon_confused.gif

Now before anyone jumps me for being a bad mom...you should know....I also kick them out when doing cookies!!! icon_twisted.gif

OOOPS!! So sorry NEWTODECORATING: I just reread your post & I when I answered your question I answered it to Twinsline icon_surprised.gif You guys must have thought I lost my mind. I must have "Buttercream Brain"

Anyway, same answer goes to you newtodecorating: I think it would be fun to have your husband learn & help you out with the decorating. I totally know what you mean about having one thing that you do, but sometimes I wish my husband would take an interest. Then maybe he could learn how to do flowers(I suck at them) & I could put him to work icon_lol.gif Also, I would think it would be nice to be able to talk together about cakes...whenever I mention the words cake, powdered sugar, buttercream, transfers, etc his eyes glaze over & I swear he would run if he could icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gificon_surprised.gif

No, not selfish at all. I've really had fun with this post!!

I do have to tell you something funny. My friend called today & said her sister asked if I could do a teddy bear baby shower cake icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif She asked her how much did she want to spend. :Her sister told her $25...my friend told her sister not a chance. She told her that she had to pay at least $40-45(bear would be on a baby block) Her sister was shocked at the price & my friend told her well she puts alot of time into her cakes & if you want quality you have to pay for it.

I just thought I would share because it made me feel really good. She is such a sweetie...I charged her $15 for the cost of materials for the skateboard cake I did & she paid me $40.

Its nice to be appreciated for what we do sometimes...I just thought you guys would understand why I was so happy.

Oh, I guess I got off track, because the funny part was that I was just telling my husband I wanted to do a baby shower cake with the bear pan. I wanted to make it Elmo with a diaper & put him on a baby block. I joked with him & said I was going to call my friend back & say I would do the cake for $25 just so I could do Elmo icon_lol.gif

AWWW that is wonderful!!!! It is soooo nice to be appreciated!! An to hear someone else appreciate your worth! It always surprises me though when people want to pay 20 to 25 dollars for a cake like the bear.......especially since we have to go through what we do with these little bear boogers!!! Maybe you should show her the bad bear and then the good bear!!! poor you ....you're not gonna live down that "bad bear" icon_razz.gif

That is a great idea about the diapered elmo!!! I loved it!

its ok to get off topic....I'm determined to make this post 6 pages and more long!!!! hahaha icon_lol.gif

Twinsline: are you so determined to get 6 pages that you have to double a post icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Just teasing you!!

If I showed her the picture of the first bear she might rethink ever wanting me to do it in the first place icon_surprised.gif

I have to start a Batman cake for a 3 year old little boy tomorrow..any thoughts on this? I could definitely use some ideas. I think its only for 15-25 people & it has to travel about 2 hours. I want to stay away from fondant & too much black icing.
Maybe I could make the bear into Batman..just kidding!!

Then of course my husband asks me is it the Cartoon Batman or the Movie Batman or the Comic Book Batman.. icon_surprised.gif I don't freaking know. The boy is 3 ....anyone know which one he would want?

This might keep the ball rolling for awhile.

ge....I KNOW!!

Hey I just realized that I missed your Batman post! Sorry....

I knew you were going to say that about my double post!!! I was going to delete it then it popped up are you sure you want to delete this post...andI panicked thinking what if its the whole thing....I would be DEVASTATED!!! so I left it!

hmmm batman....why don't you turn the bear into batman!!!! hahaha......you know I said that jokingly....but now that I think about it...that would be cute for a 3 yr old! it would be like a little toddler batman!! icon_lol.gif

whatabout doing the Batmobile? Would he recognize that? That would be basically carving a rectangle.....and then adding accents maybe fondant or chocolate? Then again with a 3 yr you could do the Batman emblem and they would be thrilled I'm sure!

twinsline: I guess you must have missed the part of the post where I joked about turning the bear into Batman. I think we are starting to think alike icon_surprised.gif

I like the idea of the batmobile, but I want to keep it more simple. I'm thinking a BCT of Batman or the emblem with buildings. There are some cute ones in the gallery, I guess I'll have to keep thinking. I actually never know what I'm going to do until I start working on the cake.

I wish I had ordered the americolors earlier because I am dying to try out the black. I hope its alot better than the wilton.

I've seen some of those building cakes their cool! Ibet he would like any of them! you're going to laugh but I really like the bear into batman idea!! I haven't seen that one done! but I would imagine time consuming!

I've been hesitating on the Americolors but I hear everyone rave about them! Maybe I should give in and try!

don't laugh at me but I refuse to let this post die!!! I've become sadly obsessed with it!!! Im going to bed now....but you watch first thing tomorrow if you don't I WILL BRING IT BACK UP!!!!

poor little post isnt even about the bear pan anymore!! ....well I take that back we have managed to bring him into almost every post icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

heehee...I figured you would pop up sooner or later icon_lol.gif
I thought the cake had to be done Thursday night, but she's not getting it until Saturday morning so I have more time to decide. I'm thinking of maybe putting the bat signal with buildings & maybe a batman figure on top. Or not....heehee.

I'm very excited...I going in a little bit to pick out new furniture for my living room. I can't pick out my paint until I pick out the couches(so I told my husband shhh.gif ) Of course I've started priming the playroom & haven't picked a color out for there either...can you tell I have problems with decisions icon_biggrin.gif

Okay, I won't bore you anymore with my yabbling...furniture is only exciting to the person who's buying it.

I'm sure I'll check in when I get back...that's if me & my husband can agree on what furniture to buy. Talk to ya later!
