I'm excited to see him decorated too...(no pressure icon_lol.gif ) I was so nervous last night...I almost felt like I was making the cake. I kept checking on here making sure she wasn't posting in the disaster forum icon_surprised.gif

p.s.

your teddy bear looks perfect! icon_biggrin.gif and carrot cake sounds like an awesome idea! dense and moist, good even without frosting (which i hear can a problem when serving cakes made in the 3d bear pan).

i'm so glad you brought this up... i've been jittery about using that pan, myself! it's been sitting around in the box since november! lol! thanks for giving me a little courage to finally use it!

well twinsline & ge978, after having come in this morning and read this post after having advised in ge's post yesterday I am now laughing harder than I was at ge's post yesterday !! I am glad that your bear turned out well also twinsline and I will tell you the same thing I told ge978 yesterday, always leave out the core and give longer baking time and your cakes are sure to turn out perfect !!

frstech & dsoutherngirl: I was so excited to help Twinsline I forgot to credit you guys for your advice. I think I even threw that core away icon_surprised.gif I couldn't believe the difference when I baked without it...the bear was so much sturdier. You guys helped me so much & I'm glad you were around to help!!

Its funny, I never really paid much attention to the stand up bear posts because I didn't have the pan, but now after "the incident" icon_surprised.gif anytime I see bear in the title I'm all over it icon_lol.gif I almost fell over myself trying to type my post to Twinsline for the first time...my husband thought I had lost my mind icon_lol.gif

You both have given me great joy the past two days with your posts, I may have to go make a bear just for the fun of it !! icon_lol.gif

Yes, not to take away from the stress that twinsline went through doing that bear, but this thread sure was entertaining! Hope to see a pic of our new "baby" at some point.

frstech: I know you weren't looking for credit, but honestly you both gave me the courage to try the bear without the core & I was so excited when it worked. Otherwise, I would have just tried it again with a different mix & I think it would have fallen apart again.

I gotta tell you, I'm almost glad Teddy fell apart the first time, because I had so much fun with that thread!! Usually I would be so frustrated that I had to start all over, especially because right in the middle of the whole disaster the restaurant that I bake for called & ordered two cakes. Any other time I would have been pulling my hair out, but it was just too funny. I couldn't help but laugh!!

I really did learn that sometimes you just have to go with the flow & laugh at yourself!!

OK EVERYONE......HERE HE IS.....................

(sorry for the delay)

but let me start with ...our little baby bear survived the night...I woke up and he was fine!!! Although the kids decided that he should not be raised by bears...but by rabbits......just in time for Easter!! So we had to get him ready to meet his new bunny family.......Here is the final result..!!!

Don't laugh at him....cream cheese icing is not easy to learn to grass tip!!!

icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif You are cracking me up!!!

I never noticed the bunny having no arms..I Think you did a terrific job on him. My daughter came home from school and I showed it to her & she loved it!!

My husband can be like that too sometimes...I think we are so critical of ourselves that they start looking at the cake like we do. I know when I look at all my cakes, I can always spot the mistakes right away & now he has learned to do the same thing. You know its our own faults..we created these monsters icon_lol.gificon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif

By the way, I was wondering how it tasted...was it drier or did it come out like all your other cakes?

twinsline7 Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile
twinsline7 Posted 7 Mar 2006 , 5:41am

OH it is definitely a monster we have created!!! I much rather him say hey this could've been different or uh that looks ridiculous than oh yeah honey uh thats great when really its crappy!!!

But still who wants someone to validate the mistakes they already see themselves!!! hahahA icon_lol.gificon_surprised.gif

The cake was a bit dryer than when I make it in reg round pans.....must have to do with the longer baking time?? you think? I did the applesauce rather than oil and everything I was surprised it was as dry as it was.........but he had so much "fur" that it was hard to tell unless you just ate the cake(which I do I'm not crazy about icing............but I will say the crusting cream cheese was sooooooooooo good!!!)

Twinsline: I would rather my husband be honest with me also, but WHY do they have to be so good at finding the mistakes? icon_cry.gif

Hmmmm....I'm going to have to work on Teddy one of these days to see if I can get him to come out moist. Maybe it doesn't have to cook as long as we think...I'll have to experiment.

I have to start a Batman cake tomorrow & I have a few other orders, but maybe I'll play around with Teddy this weekend & I'll post the results.

OH definitely!!!! I want to play with the bear again too....but this time turn him into a frog!!! I guess someday I may have to actually make him a bear!!!

I was thinking this weekend I should try the cake balls......but I wonder if I should just wait for a cake disaster!!! icon_lol.gif

I got to thinking about what you said about how we create our own monster and they see cakes like we see them!! You hit the nail so hard on the head!!! That is exactly it! I went through my other pictures with him to see if he pointed out the things I knew went wrong or could've been done differently and then got results with the same pictures from other family and his matched mine to a tee!!! where anyone elses didn't see them at all!!!
