Today, about midmorning, my 2.5 yr old daughter and I went to a store about 30 min away. After our shopping was completed, we went back to our car, and as I bent down to place her in her car seat, BAM, as Emiril would say, my back went. I was in such a pain I bagan to cry. I could hardly move my right side, from midback to toes, and my daughter had climbed into her seat waiting for me to strap her in. There was no one around, and my daughter was continuisly asking for her cookie, as I had promised she'll have it once we're in the car.

Finally, a woman parked her car next to mine. Through tears I asked her if she'd be kind enough to strap my daughter in, and she was more than willing to help.

It must've taken me about 10 min to get myself in the driver's seat. Once I was seated, the pain was controlable but I wasn't sure I'll be able to drive another 30 min to get home and I wished I had a Bangay cream, which has helped me in the past. ( I get a backache like that about once a year, and it lasts about 2 days, and the cream helps every time ) I remembered that I saw a major grocery store 2 blocks away, and I managed to get there slowly with no problems.

How was I going to get myself or my 35 lb daughter out of the car? While she was munching on her cookies, ( I gave her 3 ) I was crying and trying to move my body one inch at a time. I motioned to a women passing by, and she happened to work in the store, and asked her to buy me the cream. She didn't know what it was, but went to find it anyway. She came back running to show me the box to make certain that's what I needed, than went back in to pay for it. I was sooooooooooo greatful to her. I managed to apply the cream, waited about 10 min, than drove us back home safely with an extremely greatful heart.
I hope you all don't mind me sharing this.
Emi

I hope you feel better! Thank goodness there were people that was willing to help you! To help the pain go away faster you can get someone to massage your lower back, close to your spine. Start at the side of your spine and move outwards. You can also combine that with a heat pad. HTH!

Emi..I hope you feel better ...
I do child care, and one of the moms called me in soo much pain one day and asked if it was ok if her DD got dropped of a little early that day because of her back and that her mom was going to take her to the doctors and I could just hear in her voice all the pain she was going thru !! She does certain exercises that she does daily now to help her and she even lifts her DD differently also.

So I hope that you are filling better

Thank you all for your kind words. I do feel much, much better today. I had a very rough night the first day, hardly slept, but the next day(yesterday) my sister took my daughter over to her home for the day so I can rest. The pain is almost completely gone, except when I bend down to pick up something, I have to be careful how I do it. The doc said I must have pulled a muscle during exercises. I've been trying to push myself little more to burn all the extra calories I ate over the holiday.
I think I'll be carrying that bangay in my purse all the time now, cause you never know what could happen.
Again, thanks.
Emi

I too suffer from terrible backpain every once in a while. I can't even draw a deep breath when it happens the pain is so bad (which makes me feel like I will pass out). I went to the doctor for it a few years ago and he told me it was a pinched nerve, cracked my back, and sent me home with some pain pills. A few days later it was fine. About a month ago the pain came back again worse than ever, so I had no choice but to go to the doctor again so I could get pain pills so I could even breath. Well, this new doctor took x-rays of my chest and, surprise surprise, it is not a pinched nerve, it is the cartilage pulling away from my ribs and sternum where they meet. Now I can't do any heavy lifting, and I have a very strong anti-inflamitory that i have to take as soon as I feel even slightly sore (costs $61 for 28 generic pills).

What I am trying to say is, GO TO THE DOCTOR EVERY TIME! My first doctor was wrong with his diagnosis, and because I wasn't treated correctly the first few times this happened, it will now be a recurring injury that I have to be very carefull of. Just last week the injury came back, and all I was doing was leaning in the mirror plucking my eyebrows. Embarrasing but true.

I am glad you are feeling better, but please, for your own peace of mind, check with your doctor to be safe (especially before you start any type of stretching or excersise program).

Crystal

You guys should consider going to a chiropractor or a naparpath. They can help you too.
