Just a warning, I received this email today from FBI.Gov. Said I had been on 15 illegal sites and they were checking me out. Yes, must be all of those subversive cake sites I go on, we are plotting to overthrow the world, one topsy turvy cake at a time.
Anyway, as soon as it came I got a warning from my anti-virus ware and there was apparently a worm attached. Ran the protection for it and then couldn't get into my internet provider site all day. Finally phoned them, deleted all cookies, played around and ran another type of anti-spyware program, available free at www.trendmicro.com It was recommended by my service provider.
Anyway, just wanted to warn you all about this latest problem. Apparently I was the third person dealing with this situation. You need to send it unopened to whatever scam investigator you have available to you.
Be careful!

Thanks for the heads up Squirrelly. Are you running a good firewall and virus protection? I'm using AVG and ZoneAlarm...both free and they catch all that garbage before it ever get's near my puter.

SquirrellyCakes, I had a similar thing happen to me lastnight. I got an email from "postmaster-something-or-other.com" telling me they couldn't send my email. Luckily, I didn't open the attachment with it but by opening the email, I alerted the sender and got bombarded with about 50 emails this morning from the CIA, other government agencies, Paris Hilton, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. anything they thought I might open. Scary stuff. We were able to put a block on them and luckily had just ran the norton anti-virus updates.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Well I just bought all new firewall, anti-spam, anti-virus and anti-spyware protection. So apparently even the best anti-spyware protection is only about 52% accurate, so you need more than one. But after running the scan, nothing showed up, so how weird is that? Maybe because I deleted all of the cookies and turned off the anti-virus, I have no idea. All I know is that even with the protections I have which are all new, something weird happened.
Heehee, have no idea what either, but thankfully the system's provider customer service person was very patient and helpful. And everything is working better than it has in weeks, so perhaps deleting existing cookies did the trick. I can't figure it out, I run a scan every week, I have live updates, everything. But apparently this has been a bumper week for such things with many people.
End result, I am trying out the service provider's anti-spyware for a month and may end up signing up for it. Geesh, it is just getting so darn expensive to have all of these things, but even worse if you do not.
Well, at least it is resolved, can't tell you how funny it was to get a FBI email.

I got the same email about 15 illegal websites.....what cracks me up is if the FBI really thought you were doing something illegal they would be busting down your door. I wish everyone realized that these things are virus' and delete them....

my question is.....is there really an illegal website regarding cake? Seriously...that is all I ever do on the net anymore......cake, cake and more cake!

It is all so sad that someone has to do these things to make it difficult or unpleasant for others, isn't it? It really makes me angry.
I am told this FBI scheme is fairly new, funny thing is, I am in Canada so the RCMP would have scared me but the FBI seemed right away a scam. I think what happens is that the spyware attaches itself in various places but no, I don't think there is an illegal cakesite. I do know that I did get a lot of spam as a result of the Wilton site, my own fault for not keeping a separate account there.
I think I will now go in on a regular basis and delete cookies. It makes it inconvenient because you have to log back into all your favourites, but I guess it is worthwhile in the long run.
Sometimes it seems to me that there is more energy being spent doing evil than doing good.

Yeah!! A few months ago, my computer got a real bad virus, I couldn't get rid of icon_cry.gif, so my boyfriend had to built a new compurer for me and I had to start all over icon_confused.gif .., well on must of my stuff. It was very unconfortable. I even lost a lot of them (programs), I didn't save properly. But now I'm very protected! He bought some Anti-Viruses, they're really good. They send the unwanted (junk mail) to a separate folder, so I just have to delete them. So I'm cool now! thumbs_up.gif
Bye!

Interesing news. Overehere is a warning for mails, adressed with "BnD" (German FBI), with nearly the same message. Seems they just do it the same way, just specific to the country. Hope you all will be warned before you open any of these "mails".

Do you know how long the warning has been in effect? Apparently here it has just started to rear its ugly head.

I received the same e-mails including the one about Paris and Nicky. This really irritates me. I also have a separate folder in my e-mail that automatically sends any e-mail from anyone that is not in my address book. SBCGlobal has it as part of their site.

Heehee, now I feel left out, didn't get the Paris and Nicky one or any of the others, just the FBI, haha! Funny thing, I had trouble signing on to the service provider again today, I just don't get it. Nothing is showing up in any of the scans, nothing.

Whew, I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I was bombarded by dozens and dozens of them today and yesterday, and my email address does not usually get any spam. Norton Anti-Virus kept popping up all day long. What a PITA.

Go figure, my hotmail "spam" email addy didn't get any at all.

I haven't gotten the email but I have had viruses in the past ... I found a website that will help you look at your registry and delete unwanted items ... they were awsome ... I was told by all the experts I talked to that my problem had to be resolved by reformating the computer ..but these people fixed it .. and for free .. it seems that there is another site full of nice people out there icon_biggrin.gif
