"sew In Love"- 1940's Wedding Dress Cake
My submission to the 2012 Connecticut Cake Competition. Inspired by a 1940's wedding dress dedicated to my grandmother, who did not have a wedding dress when she married my grandfather in 1944 (she could only afford a suit). The cake took 57 hours of which 24 hours were spent on the flowers. The cake is real (white/yellow with non-dairy buttercream) and was donated to a soup kitchen after the event! The sewing box is also made of real cake (with a wooden skeleton and paneled with gumpaste) and could open and close. Thanks for looking!

Jungle Baby Girl Cake
this was a cake from the bedding cocalo jacana from toys r us. figures are gumpaste ** I found a picture of the figures online, I printed this and resized them on the printer to the size needed and used this as my template. I cut out the figures and used the same template to help me cut out all the small details and show me where to position the eyes, ears, nose etc. Hope this helps.

Olivia's Christening Cake
This cake was for my 2nd cousin who had her christening recently. The cake is strawberries and cream (SMBC), covered in white chocolate ganache and then covered in Fondant. I recently took the sugar flowers class that Jacqueline Butler has on Craftsy and it is wonderful - I couldn't have managed this cake without it - but now I am HOOKED on flower making - it takes ages, but it's so worth it.

Full Yellow Rose
Hi all! This is my most recent rose-making attempt. I made it after having bought a great DVD (Rose Gumpaste Tutorial) from Edna De la Cruz's website http://www.designmeacake.com . BTW, the DVD is only $25.00 and well worth it -- it is 220 minutes long (yes, you read that right) and it covers many aspects of making roses using various types/sizes of cutters, as well as, some very useful tips/tricks that are not part of her free online rose tutorial. I made the initial rose using yellow gumpaste -- then painted both sides of each petal with daffodil petal dust. I then came back with Poppy petal dust for the edge accents and down near the bottom of each petal (again, inside and outside). Oh! One more note . . . I used two different sizes of the JEM brand 5-petal plastic cutters. I actually bought 3 sizes - the 90mm, 100mm, and 110mm (from Edna's site). It was the first time I used them (she covered these in her DVD), but was quite pleased with the results. Plus, the process did seem to go faster than placing individual petals to build my rose. Anyway, hope some of you find this information helpful. Any questions, do let me know!

Bicycle Built For Two
Wedding cake for my friends Sarah & Travis! This is the first wedding cake I've done so I was super nervous, but the bride & groom loved it so yay! This was also the first time I've made roses, but luckily I had the amazing you tube tutorial by Cakes by Francesca to teach me. The silhouette figures were cut from fondant using a paring knife, then applied to the cake using the wax paper transfer technique over the original image that I learned from jessicakesblog (mrsmudrash). Love her blog!
