Do you ice the sides of a cupcake cake?

How do so many of them look so flat on top? Are the cupcakes that squashed together?

Thanks, Sarah

I don't understand what you mean. . . a cake that is made to look like a cupcake?

The person who did a cake like that piped the basketweave vertically to make it look like the lines from the cupcake lining. Is that what you mean? Sorry, I don't really understand.

She's talking about a CCC. She wants to know if you ice the sides...I've never done one, but I think the answer is no. I cant really answer the other question, because as I said above, I've never done a CCC.
Sarah, hope you get answers to your questions. icon_smile.gif

Cupcake cakes are usually put together with the cupcakes still in their papers, held in place with a bit of icing, and with plenty of icing over the tops for a smooth surface.

Well you need to level all the cupcakes in order to smooth the icing on top of all, I think I saw an article in here about Cupcake Cakes CCC , and they give step by step instructions, It is really easy you need to stacked them toghether in a cake circle board or a sheet board, and then apply the icing,

let me see if I can find the link to the article and will post it to help

OOHHH! A CCC! Lol. Never tried one of those. I thought she meant a cupcake cake as in a cake that was made to look like a giant cupcake.

Boy am I stupid. . . icon_redface.gif

Thanks everyone! And, if I can't find an answer on one of those links, then I better never try one!

I guess it's just because I've never actually seen one in person, and I find them intriguing.

Anyway, thanks a bunch!

I've made a couple, the Dora and My Little Pony in my photos.

You do have to try to keep all the cupcakes level. I read a tip somewhere that said, after you bake the cupcakes, let them cool a bit, them put a baking sheet on top to flatten teh tops abit. Place the cupcakes on a board in the shape you want and ice just as you would a sheet cake.

I've don't believe I've seen on that is a perfect square or rectangle. I would think the spaces would be too wide adn the icing would fall, but I don't knwo. Good luck!
