Someone had posted their first cake and their most recent cake, to show how far they have come (and they had come far!) so I thought, Hey what a fun idea!

How about if you post your first cake (or you feel is an early cake) and your most recent cake you are proud of..I think it will be fun to see how far everyone has come!!

(If you dont know how to post here, click on add an attactment and it will bring up the control panel to add your photos)

Oh, but i bet you were SO proud of the first one too! Its beautiful as well icon_smile.gif I'm not nearly to this point, so i'll come back to this forum in another year and do this! LOL

Its actually a great idea, i'm still waiting to take my third wilton class, and looking back at the cake i made for my daughter in January, the difference is already amazing. I can't wait to see what i'll be able to create for my kids next year!!!

Thanks bunches icon_smile.gif I didn't know how to attach fondant to itself when I first started so the shiny part of the second cake is vegetable oil XD. I was a tad crazy...

What a great idea! I'm still on the "new" end of it, so there's not much difference...but something I'd definitely like to do down the road!

I started decorating as a hobby in the spring of 2005. I think I have come a long way, but have an even longer way to go! I have taken Wilton courses 1&2, everything else was learned thanks to CC and the help of everyone here, books and DVDs!

Bummer! I couldn't get the pictures to attach here. Here are the links. If anyone can tell me how to attach the pictures I'll try again.

This was one of the early cakes I made. Very easy, not too much decorating. The second is the Man United T-shirt cake which I absolutely loved. Still have a long way to go but I think I've learned a LOT here on CC that's allowed me to do things like this. You can see my writing on the chocolate cake is horrendous!!

By the way everyone's cakes are so beautiful!

This is a great topic...

The first wedding cake that I made was about three years ago. Very very very last minute order. I made my first wedding cake from start to finish in under two hours. The photo isn't very good quality... sorry about that... but it was awful!!!!

The second picture I'm very proud of, one of my favorites!

What a fun thread! My Raggedy Ann was my first cake from an aluminum foil pan from Wilton. Put decorating aside for many years and only played with it till I found CC.
Then that first Ragg. Ann cake which was for my first born daughters 29th birthday 29 years ago has grown into her Mac Cake on her 28th b'day. I'd like to think I've improved, but I'm still learning thanks to this site!

This isn't my first cake but my first that I posted on CakeCentral before I really got into cakes and would do them for the kids birthdays. It was Lightning McQueen for my son.

The 1st two cakes are my two most recent. One for a wedding yesterday and the sheet cake for a bridal shower today. The last cake was my first cake central cake.

I've come a long way in my ability not to panic with every cake I make. I used to end up in tears and now if something goes wrong I know I can fix it.

OK lets see what I can find....The bottom cake is the first "wedding" type cake I ever made. I made it in class at Johnson and Wales in 2004. The top cake was a more recent wedding cake I made last summer. I still have a long way to go for improvement, but I think I'm doing a lot better icon_smile.gif

Lightning McQueen was my first official decorated cake, back in August of '06. He was two 9x13's stacked and carved, and I actually did a fairly decent job carving-- the problem was with the icing. Completely naieve to fondant at the time, I actually melted icing in a double-boiler and poured it onto the cake! What a bloody mess! icon_eek.gif

The second picture shows a year's worth of reflection and research. August '07: a Chicken cake carved from 4 stacked 7" rounds, iced and covered in almost 250 fondant "feathers" and sprayed with color mist. The head, was fondant (way too heavy!) and I was then no where near a face-artist! But I think it shows improvement.

I'll keep you all posted for August of this year.
